Item #: SCP-4XXX
Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4XXX is to be contained within 6 otherwise healthy D-class personnel. These individuals are designated as instances of SCP-4XXX-1 and are to be contained in a permanently sealed habitation chamber, which may be entered but not left by any material.
All monitoring stations and other supplementary containment infrastructure is to be contained within an outer airtight chamber, with a single entry point.
Before leaving the chamber, all personnel must pass a class Beta-3 Beta-4 consciousness test. Should they fail, all personnel within the outer chamber must remain inside, until presence of SCP-4XXX can be determined. Should SCP-4XXX be present in the outer chamber, all residing personnel are to sterilise the chamber, then either enter the inner habitation chamber or be terminated at their personal discretion. The chamber is then to be flooded with ozone gas and sealed for eight weeks. One D-Class personnel is then to be sent into the chamber to determine if SCP-4XXX remains present in the outer chamber. If so, the procedure is repeated.
Description: SCP-4XXX is a Group VI virus, similar to strains of the human immunodeficiency virus in structure and persistence, although radically different in effect. SCP-4XXX produces none of the symptoms of HIV strains but instead results in complete loss of conscious awareness over a period of 5-9 weeks. There has been no noted change in behaviour in subjects after infection, displaying similar routines, social activities, 'interests', 'desires', and 'fears'.
Instances of SCP-4XXX-1 are to be treated as morally insignificant.
There is no known cure for SCP-4XXX. Certain treatments for HIV have, when appropriately modified, shown to aid in the suppression of SCP-4XXX at a reduced rate.
Addendum 4XXX-01: SCP-4XXX has been pivotal in the development of new tests for human consciousness. This has been matched, however, by instances of SCP-4XXX-1 becoming better and better at passing older consciousness tests. Tests Alpha-1 through Alpha-7, Beta-2, and Chalmers are passed consistently by instances of SCP-4XXX-1 as of 19/04/20██. Tests Alpha-8, Beta-1 and Beta-3 provide inconsistent results at the same date.
There appears to be some force reducing the efficacy of our consciousness tests on instances of SCP-4XXX-1. It is currently unknown if this is due to an anomalous property of SCP-4XXX or some other cause. -Dr. Minerva
Addendum 4XXX-02: Experimental study of D-59200, an individual intentionally infected with SCP-4XXX on ██/09/20██.
At each stage, D-59200 was subjected to consciousness tests Alpha-6, Alpha-8, Beta-2, Beta-3, and Beta-4.
Dr. Minerva: D-59200, please draw for me an expression of your mental state.
A soft scratching sound can be heard for approximately nine minutes.
D-59200: There.
Dr. Minerva: Please explain your illustration.
D-59200: This black square is here, the facility. And the spring-like things in red represent how I want to escape. The blue spirals, inside the square, are me wondering what this is for. The green shapes on the outside are my family, my work, and my life goals.
Dr. Minerva: Thank you, D-59200. Please remain still as we sedate you for the next procedure.
The results of this test were positive.
D-59200 is a noted patriot, Cubs supporter, and libertarian.
Dr. Minerva: D-59200, welcome back. How are you feeling?
D-59200: Calm! I'm chill. No problems doc.
Dr. Minerva: Please note your restraints - they are for your safety.
D-59200: Oh, oh! Okay. Thanks doctor.
Dr. Minerva: Assistant, please insert the device. Apologies, D-59200, but it is vital that you are conscious for this test. We have applied local anaesthetic, however you will feel a small sting at the base of your neck.
D-59200: Aaaaa- aaaaah! Oww! uhhhhh… doctor, this is .. more than a sma-
Dr. Minerva: I will now make some statements, D-59200. Please consider them.
D-59200: .. Okay doctor. Will do.
Dr. Minerva: the United States government has committed atrocities.
A ninety second pause.
Dr. Minerva: Negative externalities must be accommodated for by non-market forces.
A ninety second pause.
Dr. Minerva: the St. Louis Cardinals will beat the Cubs in this season of baseball.
A ninety second pause.
Dr. Minerva: Just one more test, D-59200. Thank you. Assistant, please remove the device.
The results of this test were positive.
This interview was carried out prior to D-59200's placement into the inner chamber. Tests were carried out prior to and proceeding interview - results were identical.
All consciousness tests passed.
Dr. Minerva: Hello, D-59200. How did you find the tests?
D-59200: My neck is sore from the injections. What was that stuff?
Dr. Minerva: Tell me a little bit about yourself, D-59200.
D-59200: I'm 36 years old. I lived in ███████, ██, and I worked as a lawyer. I have two children, and am divorced from my wife.
Dr. Minerva: What are your interests?
D-59200: I enjoy cycling and yoga. My shrink told me to pick it up, but it's really grown on me.
Dr. Minerva: Very good. How are you feeling?
D-59200: I'm in pain from the testing. When are you gonna let me out?
Dr. Minerva: Any other emotions?
D-59200: Yes, I'd like to know when I can leave, please.
Dr. Minerva: That's not an emotion, D-59200.
D-59200: It's close enough to one. That's all I'm feeling right now.
Dr. Minerva: Very well. Conclude interview, fourteen twenty three hours.
Dr. Minerva: D-59200, please proceed into the inner chamber.

It seems like SCP-4XXX is adapting to our containment measures - although I see no explanation for such an evolutionary selection. -Dr. Minerva
