Item #: SCP-4XXX

Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4XXX is to be contained within 6 otherwise healthy D-class personnel. These individuals are designated as instances of SCP-4XXX-1 and are to be contained in a permanently sealed habitation chamber, which may be entered but not left by any material.

All monitoring stations and other supplementary containment infrastructure is to be contained within an outer airtight chamber, with a single entry point.

Before leaving the chamber, all personnel must pass a class Beta-3 Beta-41 consciousness test. Should they fail, all personnel within the outer chamber must remain inside, until presence of SCP-4XXX can be determined. Should SCP-4XXX be present in the outer chamber, all residing personnel are to sterilise the chamber, then either enter the inner habitation chamber or be terminated at their personal discretion. The chamber is then to be flooded with ozone gas and sealed for eight weeks. One D-Class personnel is then to be sent into the chamber to determine if SCP-4XXX remains present in the outer chamber. If so, the procedure is repeated.

Description: SCP-4XXX is a Group VI virus, similar to strains of the human immunodeficiency virus in structure and persistence, although radically different in effect. SCP-4XXX produces none of the symptoms of HIV strains but instead results in complete loss of conscious awareness over a period of 5-9 weeks. There has been no noted change in behaviour in subjects after infection, displaying similar routines, social activities, 'interests', 'desires', and 'fears'.

Instances of SCP-4XXX-1 are to be treated as morally insignificant.

There is no known cure for SCP-4XXX. Certain treatments for HIV have, when appropriately modified, shown to aid in the suppression of SCP-4XXX at a reduced rate.

Addendum 4XXX-01: SCP-4XXX has been pivotal in the development of new tests for human consciousness. This has been matched, however, by instances of SCP-4XXX-1 becoming better and better at passing older consciousness tests. Tests Alpha-1 through Alpha-7, Beta-2, and Chalmers are passed consistently by instances of SCP-4XXX-1 as of 19/04/20██. Tests Alpha-8, Beta-1 and Beta-3 provide inconsistent results at the same date.

There appears to be some force reducing the efficacy of our consciousness tests on instances of SCP-4XXX-1. It is currently unknown if this is due to an anomalous property of SCP-4XXX or some other cause. -Dr. Minerva

Addendum 4XXX-02: Experimental study of D-59200, an individual intentionally infected with SCP-4XXX on ██/09/20██.

At each stage, D-59200 was subjected to consciousness tests Alpha-6, Alpha-8, Beta-2, Beta-3, and Beta-4.

It seems like SCP-4XXX is adapting to our containment measures - although I see no explanation for such an evolutionary selection. -Dr. Minerva
