Description: SCP-XXXX is a previous undiscovered species of organisms possessing anomalous genetic makeup.¹ The potentially artificial emergence of SCP-XXXX is still unclear. Adult instances of SCP-XXXX on average range in weight from 7 to 13.5 kilograms and 45.7 to 75 centimeters in height at the shoulder, forming a lanky, somewhat-humanoid form. Tissue composed chiefly of keratin and various non-organic material composes hair-like spines that grow along the upper back.

The most notable trait of SCP-XXXX is the total lack of muscle, adipose, or skin tissue present on the skull, leaving the bone exposed. Instances are still fully capable of vocalization, mastication, and swallowing.

Despite being primarily quadrupedal, all instances of SCP-XXXX possess opposable thumbs and can travel for short distances in a bipedal stance. While testing to determine the exact level of intelligence of SCP-XXXX is ongoing, species members are highly social and have routinely been observed using simple tools such as spears and stones for problem solving and defense.

Discovery: Following a 4.3-magnitude earthquake from a previously unknown fault line, the metro area of Detroit, Michigan, USA suffered unusual damage. While most property damage was appropriately minor, a sinkhole measuring 24 meters in diameter formed beside ████ Woodward Avenue during initial seismic activity .²

Inspection by Detroit public works employees began after local law enforcement cordoned off the area to the public, but was halted upon the discovery of a cavern, exposed by the caving in of the surface. Foundation staff were contacted by city officials whereupon a research team was dispatched to investigate.

+ D-Class Investigation Log

[Two D-Class personnel, D-6356 (henceforth D-6) and D-5252 (henceforth D-5) were dispatched each with standard issue subterranean exploration equipment including rappelling gear, climbing harness, and headlamp. Both personnel were fitted with body cameras on the chest as well. Audio and video log initiates as the D-class individuals approach on foot.]

[BEGIN LOG]

Command: Command to D-Class team. Do you read?

D-6: Yep!

D-5: Copy.

{3 seconds of silence transpire before D-6 stops to address D-5.}

D-6: Wait, was I supposed to say copy?

D-5: Yeah, probably.

Command: That's alright, D-6356. You need to focus on the task at hand. Are you both at the end of the sinkhole?

D-5: We're there. {D-5 lets out a long, low whistle.} Shit, that's a long way down. Do we really have to go down there?

D-6: Oh, come on. Don't be a pussy.

Command: We received reports of anomalous activity. Your mission is to explore the cavern below and report what you find.

{D-5 and D-6 proceed to utilize their issued rappelling gear to descend to the floor of the cavern. Once at the bottom both activate their headlamps, revealing a large mass of broken asphalt in the center of the cavern.}

D-5: Alright, we made it.

Command: Command to D-class team. Copy that. Can you look around from your current position and tell us what you can see?

The light from the headlamps of the D-class personnel illuminate the cavern walls, heavily scored by thin furrows. Various openings in the walls are visible.

D-6: Uh… it just looks like a cave to me. There might be some smaller tunnels branching off here and there. Probably just ground water.

D-5: No, no. There's no way this is a normal cave. I dug up gopher and chipmunk holes when I was a kid. They would eat our crops. The walls are too smooth. And those are claw marks.

D-6: You sure?

D-5: Definitely.

Command: Command to D-class. Can you see down any of the branching tunnels?

{D-5 begins to approach a tunnel across the cavern from him, moving towards the center. As he steps over a broken slab of concrete a loud crunching sound is heard. D-6 aims his headlamp downward, at his feet. Red and white matter can be seen adhered to the underside of the debris and D-6's boot. It is also scattered across the floor of the cavern, as if by force.}

D-6: Is… is that blood?

D-5: Yeah. And bone.

D-6: Heh, maybe it was a sewer gator.

Command: Command to D-class team, status report. What are you seeing?

{//Flashes of movement and rustling sounds begin to come from several of the tunnels around the cavern. D-5 and D-6 glance back to their rappelling equipment which is still attached to the rim of the sinkhole. The sounds and movements increase in intensity over a thirty second time frame.}

D-6: What the hell is that? Aftershock?

{Flashes of light, appearing to be animal eye shine, can be seen at the openings of several tunnels. Sounds of hissing can be heard coming from multiple sources.//}

D-6: Fuck this, I'd rather go back to jail.

D-5: Same. I'm not interested in being eaten by the mole people.

Command: Negative, the investigation has not been terminated. Stay where you are and continue to relay what you see and hear.

[D-6 quickly turns to leave as an animal-like screech echoes throughout the cavern. A dark stain begins to appear on the front of his trousers as he ascends. D-5 follows close behind. Both personnel returned to the surface, against direct orders, firmly refusing to return and complete the investigation.]

After the failure of the D-Class investigation, Mobile Task Force Lambda-12 ("Pest Control") was deployed to the emergence site of SCP-XXXX to investigate and contain the anomaly.

[Lambda-12 arrives at the site of the anomaly with additional security personnel to provide additional reinforcement of the temporary containment zone. Utilizing ground-penetrating radar, researchers were able to generate a rough map of the cavern and the connecting tunnels.
