Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard humanoid containment cell, additionally furnished with a television which can be controlled remotely. A continuous sequence of fabricated images of SCP-XXXX must be displayed on the television, with a different image shown every thirty minutes. Each of these images must clearly show SCP-XXXX performing an action that is possible to complete in its containment cell and necessary to satisfy the basic daily physiological needs of an adult human female. The actions to be displayed include, but are not limited to: eating, sleeping, light exercise, and bladder/bowel movements.

The physical condition of SCP-XXXX must be evaluated by on-site medical staff on a monthly basis to determine if changes to the sequence of displayed images are necessary. A site director is to be notified of any significant differences between the currently displayed image and SCP-XXXX-1’s current actions.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the designation given to D-34252 — a thirty-two-year-old African American female, 166 cm in height, 65 kg in weight — following an unknown date on which they acquired anomalous properties. SCP-XXXX has been in Foundation custody for twelve years and had previously worked as a housekeeper before their initial detainment.

SCP-XXXX suffers from a complex form of tetraplegia which affects nearly its entire body — it is incapable of controlling any of the muscles on its body save its face. It has reportedly lost sensation in affected areas and has experienced the effects of phantom limb syndrome and numerous occasions. Due to the majority of SCP-XXXX's internal organs having lost function because of this, a full-body internal impulse generation device has been implanted inside of SCP-XXXX to provide electrical stimulation. SCP-XXXX's has been suspended within its cell to allow medical researchers easier access to its body.

SCP-XXXX-1 is the metaphysical relationship between the hindbrain1 of SCP-XXXX and the resident population of Baywood, an unincorporated community located in northwestern Virginia. SCP-XXXX is incapable of controlling its conscious mind due to heavy amnestic exposure, but its subconscious mind can be influenced by external stimuli. Baywood contains ~9,000 residents, although the exact percentage of these individuals that are affected by SCP-XXXX-1 remains unknown.

Ideas which are exposed to SCP-XXXX visually or auditorily are automatically relayed to Baywood's residents through SCP-XXXX-1, who then begin to express the ideas themselves. This usually manifests in affected subjects as

SCP-XXXX-2 is a phenomenon which occurs within Baywood whenever a currently unknown set of criteria is met. SCP-XXXX-2 is centered around the individual that triggered it, cannot be transferred to a different individual whilst it is occurring, and can effect multiple subjects in a short period of time. Historical records of SCP-XXXX-2's existence date back to the founding of Baywood in 1905, with it being described as a deific punishment for individuals who did not practice the mostly Evangelical Protestant traditions of the area.

an additional paragraph about SCP-XXXX-1. this one talks about how the influence of SCP-XXXX-1 strengthens and weakens over time. the exact reason for this is unknown, but is suspected to be caused by the emergence of talented individuals within the town. note specifically that the first time an event like this was discovered was following the induction of several works from banjo folk singer James Spencer Caudill into the Library of Congress.

SCP-XXXX-2's paragraph. it's a phenomenon which takes place whenever an event of significant note takes place in the town, and increases in severity whenever an individual produces a large number of these events over the course of their life. SCP-XXXX-2 causes large earthquakes to shake the town, followed by the anomalous creation of several sinkholes.

testing has shown that the percentage of SCP-XXXX-2 effects varies depending on the influence SCP-XXXX-1 on individuals within the town.

Addendum XXXX/1: History/Discovery

Forest_Bank_-_Town_Street_-_geograph.org.uk_-_1151691.jpg

Baywood, VA.

SCP-XXXX was born in Baywood, Virginia to Hope Blevins (now deceased) and Benjamin Jones in the winter of 1987. Its mother died in childbirth, which caused Jones to descend into an emotional downward spiral that resulted in him becoming addicted to various pain-relieving medications he was taking at the time. Jones would eventually remarry four years later, with the relationship ending in a divorce.

The next significant event in SCP-XXXX's life occurred in 1997, when the entity was in grade four. Reports during this time state that SCP-XXXX wrote an essay entitled "Why I Love My Town" as an assignment for its English class. This essay concerned aspects of Baywood which SCP-XXXX felt proud of, and received much appraise from SCP-XXXX's teacher, which is believed to be the cause of the first known SCP-XXXX-2 event. The subsequent earthquake was not connected with SCP-XXXX due to the anomalous effects of the town being undiscovered at the time. SCP-XXXX would begin writing essays and fictional stories as a hobby following this event.

When SCP-XXXX entered grade six, it was introduced to Gerwyn Williams, a Welsh transfer student who had immigrated to the U.S. the previous year. The two began a friendship over their shared love of the arts: Williams in the field of painting and SCP-XXXX in the field of creative writing. This relationship was the cause for numerous SCP-XXXX-2 events, which notified the Foundation of a possibly anomalous presence within the town. Preliminary investigations into the town of Baywood began.

Over the next four years, SCP-XXXX would gradually move away from her own family and gravitate towards Williams's. The themes of adoption, growing up, and falling in love became more common in SCP-XXXX's writing during this time, with the most prominent example being the introduction of a recurring character named "Jyn, the Guardian" a large, animate statue with angel-like wings that acted as a source of emotionally stability for the protagonist. Unearthed entries of SCP-XXXX's diary during this time revealed that a common meeting place for it and Williams was a cave on the outskirts of Baywood.

At the end of its sophomore year of high school, SCP-XXXX announced that it had began a romantic relationship with Williams. A spike in SCP-XXXX-2 events occured.

On 27/09/2004, the Foundation classified Baywood as an anomalous location and began active containment and suppression efforts. Traffic within the town is reduced by 73% over the next six months, and

the foundation implements a ton of new measures to stop attention from coming to the town. job opportunities are closed, media sources are turned away, and traffic in the area is cut by nearly half in order to prevent opportunities for people in the town to leave.

williams ends up committing suicide during his senior year. a massive decrease in SCP-XXXX-2 events is observed. this confirms foundation suspicions that SCP-XXXX is the focal point of the anomaly, and detains her. figure out something to justify why she was made a d-class first instead of straight to SCP status.

Addendum XXXX/2: Exploration Log (Summarized)

test text test text something here about MTF Zeta-9 ("Mole Rats") going into the favorite childhood cave where SCP-XXXX and her best friend/crush spent their childhood in whilst he was being more creative and she was becoming less so. There, they discover the BEAST (seriously, make a better name) hiding far beneath the town. Almost like that goat demon ghost thing from Night in the Woods.

Addendum XXXX/3: Committee Hearing on SCP-XXXX and Related Anomalies

SCP-XXXX | CONTAINMENT COMMITTEE HEARING

PRESENT:

  • Sr. Researcher McCarter, Head of Research Team on SCP-XXXX
  • Sr. Technician Redah, Head of Containment Team on SCP-XXXX
  • Officer Juliani, Head of Public Relations and Suppression on SCP-XXXX
  • ζ-1 "Captain", Leader of MTF Zeta-9 ("Mole Rats") Exploration Team
  • ζ-4 "Overseer", Comm. Expert of Zeta-9 ("Mole Rats") Exploration Team
  • O5-1

1. RESULTS OF MTF ZETA-9 ("MOLE RATS") EXPLORATION

McCarter: They said they found a snake down there. It was wrapped around some metal sphere.

ζ-1 "Captain": An ouroboros. And the sphere was steel, not metal. It had some runic symbols on it — thaumaturgic, I think. Looked ancient, like something before mankind.

McCarter: And did you capture it? Do you at least have a picture? Anything other than your word? I don't wanna be spending half our resources and D-Class on an invisible snake.

ζ-1 "Captain": No, there wasn't anything mind-affecting down there. My whole squad got tested afterward. One even took a vacation right afterword, said she got the shakes from looking at it.

Redah: I believe you said you had drafted an APEP profile earlier.

ζ-1 "Captain": Overseer did, yes. Right here.

ζ-1 "Captain" distributes several copies of a file to the other participants.

McCarter: A lot of this is absurdly vague.

ζ-4 "Overseer": Apologies for that. I quite literally typed up this document the other night and we don't have a lot of research into this thing. I'm basing this purely off of my own observations.

Juliani: If I may jump in here, these descriptions actually fit our observations to a T, surprisingly. If you'll look over these interview transcripts my team has collected over our short stay…

2. SUPPRESSION EFFORTS RELATED TO SCP-XXXX AND BAYWOOD, VIRGINIA

Juliani: And before any of y'all ask, yes, this does extend to every member of the town. Err, every member of the town that we interviewed. It's almost too good to be true: a perfectly self-sufficient and self-containing method of suppression.

Redah: Don't give it too much praise. The pieces simply fell into place a lot smoother than other anomalies of this caliber.

McCarter: You can't seriously call this a success. There's been no time to see the long-term psychological impact of these procedures. There's no evidence that we're not fucking up something in these people's brains. There's just not enough here.

Redah: McCarter—

McCarter: Don't interrupt me. Three weeks, that's all I'm asking for. With that time, my team could track the effects of SCP-XXXX on these people, pinpoint the connection between SCP-XXXX-2 and Baywood, and figure out how this new entity ties into all of this. You're blowing something up that's likely just a pure coincidence.

ζ-4 "Overseer": Did you even read the exploration log? There were cave paintings — cave paintings — that show that people worshiped this thing. It was basically the Native American version of the Bible. There is absolutely a connection between this thing and this stretch of land, at least.

O5-1: I don't mean to interrupt this nice conversation you three are having, but may we get back to the topic at hand?

Silence.

Juliani: Thank you, ma'am. As part of our questions, we included a few on SCP-XXXX, ██████, to see if these people had some connection to it. The first person that knew anything was one 'Ms. Humphrey', sixty-five, retired, apparent neighbor to the anomaly when it lived there.

Addendum XXXX/4: Containment Memorandum

this section is basically a massive success party for the foundation. due to their efforts, the effects of SCP-XXXX-2 and the SNAKE have decreased drastically. an effective form of combating its influence is destroying works which hold significance within the town. this is usually done without protest due to the effects of SCP-XXXX on the townspeople. this information is interspersed with interviews from effected individuals who give up on their dreams and passions, stating that "they're happy as they are" and "anything they make won't make much of a splash anyway, and it's starting to cause a fair bit of money." they aren't exactly sad, they're just living in a hopeless town with no opportunities.

Addendum XXXX/5: Neutralization Attempts

a few untitled paintings discovered in the cave (decrease). a McDonalds restaurant which regularly employs low-income individuals (increase). a family owned restaurant which was fairly prominant in the town (medium decrease). a painting entitled "Flowers that remind me of you" which depicts several Easter Redbud flowers by a river (high increase). a fantasy series created by SCP-XXXX that contains mentions of Jyn (medium increase).

Due to a lack of action from #Z9-oU4HI ("THE SNAKE"), the entity was tentatively reclassified as Neutralized. The possibility of extending this reclassification to the entirety of SCP-XXXX is currently being debated.
