MEMETIC AGENT IN EFFECT

COGNITIVE FUNCTIONS UNIMPAIRED
REMOVING SECURITY INTERLOCK

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the elusive nature of SCP-XXXX, there are currently no specimens in containment. Affected individuals should be prescribed amnestics and referred to Foundation-approved psychiatrists for continuing treatment. Because of the mind-affecting properties of SCP-XXXX, any personnel - including D-class - working in areas that have experienced manifestations are required to undertake a fortnightly information sweep as a site security measure and attempted early warning system. Small tactical units from MTF Kappa-15 ("Think Tank") are to undertake routine search-and-surveillance in locales that have reported multiple manifestations.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a mind-affecting SCP that has been reported in various locales both within the United States and in other parts of the world. Individuals affected by SCP-XXXX experience increasing instances of anxiety, fear, and intense paranoia, even without prior symptoms of mental illness. Documents from psychiatric professionals and doctors within the Foundation outline a consistent manner of manifestation, with patients reporting whispers originating from an area inside their minds. These voices apparently vary in tone and intensity for each individual, discussing deep-seated trauma or irrational fears.

The earliest recorded instance of SCP-XXXX manifested in an individual from South America, Adelaide Machado, age 37. Subject reportedly began experiencing "moderate sporadic anxiety to a concerning degree" as well as reporting auditory hallucinations to her counselor, but psychosis and other signs of schizophrenic or dissociative disorders were absent or incomplete, rendering diagnosis impossible. Ms. Machado later became housebound due to her increasing anxiety and paranoia. After further instances of SCP-XXXX manifestations were documented by the Foundation, an agent was dispatched to interview the subject; however, Ms. Machado was kept under sedation and was mostly incoherent throughout, though her behaviours were consistent with those of an individual affected by SCP-XXXX. The only clear information extracted from the interview was the subject's apparent belief that her father was on his way "to hurt her again." (Ms. Machado's father had died in prison eight years earlier, serving a sentence for domestic violence and child abuse.)

To whom it may concern:

This entry was discovered in the Foundation's archives on 03/19/19 by information
maintenance personnel. After some research it was discovered to have replaced an existing SCP file already in the system, however, the file was found to have been last edited on 03/31/19. Due to the security measures in place within Foundation systems that prevent the forward-dating of documents, this entry is now cited as a possible temporal anomaly. It has since been classified Top Secret, and placed under the influence of a memetic agent to prevent accidental paradox events.

Doctor Roswell has been notified of the document and will begin research protocol Asimov-Blue effective immediately. Information regarding this entry has also been disseminated to the following:

  • O5 Council
  • Foundation-wide Site Directors
  • Site 42 temporo-spatial research scientists and selected individuals stationed elsewhere (as per protocol Asimov-Blue)

O5 Council are also in discussion regarding the possible formation of a new MTF, to be trained in the capture and containment of anomalies whose primary attack or defense revolves around the use of fear. The proposed designation for this taskforce is MTF Zeta-18 ("Fight or Flight".)
