Item #:6011
Object Class:Euclid
Special Containment Prcedures:All amounts of SCP-6011 are to be kept in 100 mL glass vials in a refrigerated room at a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius. All instances of SCP-6011 discovered outside of Foundation containment are to be immediately contained. Any individuals found to have imbibed SCP-6011 within the last 10 years are to be immediately taken into Foundation custody. Any individuals found possessing SCP-6011 in any amount or possessing information concerning the production or distribution of SCP-6011 are also to be taken into custody. Zeta event entities are to be kept in air-locked rooms with automatic air monitoring systems, each guarded by at least two armed security personnel.
Description: SCP-6011 is an anomalous drug that causes the imbiber to be suspended in a near-death state. SCP-6011 appears as a clear liquid with a consistency identical to water. It possesses no discernible taste or smell, and when placed directly on the skin leaves the affected area slightly numb. Ingestion of SCP-6011 in an amount of less than 1 mL within a 24-hour period induces a mild sense of euphoria and acts as a slight muscle relaxant. No anomalous properties are apparent within these parameters. Ingesting more than 1 mL within 24-hours [or ingesting at least 0.5 mL for at least 8 days] will cause the subject to enter a state of near-death lasting anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes.
Once imbibed, the subject will first experience the relaxant properties of SCP-6011. The subject will continue to lose muscle control for approximately 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, the subject will experience the loss of the majority of their biological functions, including their digestive functions, respiratory system, and their cardiovascular system. Subjects that experience this frequently note anxiety at this point in the process, especially over the loss of their heartbeat and their ability to breath. During this time, subjects will experience hallucinations and extreme paranoia. Subjects will often see entities that are not observable by any known means other than ingestion of SCP-6011. Those who have taken doses between 1 to 3 mL usually only see these entities as blurred shadows similar to those reported during episodes of sleep paralysis.
Doses between 3-5 mL will cause the subject to see the entities more clearly, reporting desiccated humanoids with large eyes that reflect a light source that is not visible to the subject. Subjects are reported to have an highly negative reaction to these entities, making repeated testing on the same subject difficult.
These entities, dubbed "Romero" entities, do not harm or directly interact with the subject. Romero entities will instead observe subjects for the duration of the effects of SCP-6011, often standing in close proximity of the subject. Other D-class subjects used in testing are incapable of interacting with Romero entities, and due to muscle paralysis, subjects under the influence of SCP-6011 can not move to interact with these entities. When approximately 5 minutes remain until SCP-6011 wears off, Romero entities will disappear. Subjects note that Romero entities do note slowly fade or move out of sight first, instead simply vanishing even if being directly observed.
Subjects that consume more than 5 mL within 24 hours or use at least 0.5 mL for a period of 8 days will undergo a metamorphosis, referred to as a Zeta event. During this time, subjects will experience the usual effects of SCP-6011, losing most of their biological functions. However, after a dormant period usually lasting around 2 hours, subjects are observed to have heightened brain activity, especially near the thalamus. By an as of yet unknown process, the subjects skin will begin to desiccate, drying to the point of flaking of as powder. Subjects will lose a large amount of tissue from their muscles, stomach, and intestines. The subject's heart will resume function, although only at a rate between 10 to 20 bpm. The subject's eyes will grow a layer of dense, fibrous white tissue around the entire organ. The eyes will then expand as a result of increased pressure as the vitreous body of the eye increases in volume. At this point the subject will reanimate as a corporeal version of the Romero entities.
Once the Zeta event is completed, the subject's intelligence will have decreased immensely. Subjects possess no prior memory of their life or identity, are incapable of solving even basic IQ tests, and their behavior usually consists of aimlessly wandering their containment enclosure or sitting quietly. At this point, subjects pose very little risk of breaching containment. However, dissection of these subjects has revealed several potential hazards. The saliza, blood, and vitreous body of the eyes has been replaced entirely with SCP-6011, usually measuring at about 4 liters. In addition, the dried skin that flakes off these subjects has been found to function identically to SCP-6011. Finally, the interior of the lungs has grown a tough, fungus-like tissue that continuously excretes spores into the air, giving the subject the appearance of breathing.
