Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a dry, cool, and ventilated storage area devoid of flammable materials. It is not to be played without the express approval of a Level 4 official. Any excursions into SCP-XXXX-1 must follow the guidelines provided in Addendum XXXX-A.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a roll of standard 35mm film with the faded text "It was MY MASTERPIECE" scrawled on the side of the film spool in blue marker. The tape was found among the possessions of little-known playwright Desmond Dwight, active in Chicago in the late 1940s. After his inheritors discovered its primary anomalous property, the film was turned over to the possession of the Chicago PD, wherein Foundation contacts organized transfer and subsequent amnestication of affected parties.
SCP-XXXX, when used with any suitable film projector, appears to play a recording of Desmond Dwight's only theatrically produced play A Drink to Die For, his modernized adaptation of Hamlet as a story about the Prohibition-era Italian mafia, in a small theater space of uncertain identity and to an audience of under 20 people. All of the actors involved are believed to have been amateurs involved in the Chicago scene of the era who failed to achieve wider prominence and of whom few have been conclusively identified.
What makes SCP-XXXX merit containment is that the image produced by projectors playing SCP-XXXX can be physically traversed as if it were a window, with individuals entering the world inside the film (henceforth termed "SCP-XXXX-1") arriving in the back of the seating area of the theater. From the perspective of those inside, the appearance of the world remains black-and-white with film grain visible no matter where one looks, although all spaces, objects and inviduals can be interacted with physically as in our reality.
Most doors and exits of SCP-XXXX-1 lead into impenetrable blackness. There are three exceptions, however. The first is a hallway containing a concession stand with typical theater fare, and a set of restrooms. The second is a door to the backstage, and the third is a stairwell leading to a small office space. As of ██/██/████, access to the stairwell is prohibited without prior approval. Administrator's notice: this order is rescinded as of ████ following conclusion of gathering [REDACTED].
SCP-XXXX-1 is inhabited by numerous instances of SCP-XXXX-2, individuals that appear to be humans who, like SCP-XXXX-1, are entirely black and white and exhibit reduced responses to environmental stimuli. For instance, they will make little mention of the usually anachronistic attire of subjects who interact with them. However, the cast of the play (numbering six (6) individuals, two females and four males) are significantly more responsive and will visibly react to disruption by a subject in the audience during the play's performance. See Observation Log XXXX-E for additional behavioral analysis of SCP-XXXX-2.

When initial forays into SCP-XXXX-1 were being made, subjects exploring the upper stairwell encountered a the corpse of an old man who appeared in full color, still clutching a sheaf of papers containing partial revisions to the script of A Drink to Die For, along with a revolver with a single spent casing in the cylinder, leading researchers to conclude the man ended his life via suicide. This individual was later identified as Desmond Dwight after searching dental records.
Eleven (11) cassette were recovered from inside the primary office desk, three of which remain playable (Audio samples XXXX-A1 through XXXX-A3), each containing journal entries of Desmond Dwight dated between 1969 and 1985. Prior material includes journal records… (expand)

I've gotten more than I ever could have bargained for. This place, it's glorious. It's all mine. And finally I have the freedom to keep perfecting my magnum opus.

That smug bitch told me it would be easier if she had better material. How many more times are they gonna make me kill someone over blowing a line? I asked for the actors to be sentient, but I got incompetent!
There is a prolonged period of silence, broken by occasional muttering.
My wife has been asking where I've been. I have to be more careful. If she found this place, if she sees what I've done in here, what I still do-
I'm a father now. I have to face facts. Maybe

I left her. I took everything I could find and rented the cheapest place I could. And I still can't finish this FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!! I scream at the actors until my throat goes raw. I've killed more than I can count. Maybe this was never meant to be my masterpiece. Maybe it's my Titanic, and I never even got out to sea.
I can't go back. My wife would kill me and my daughter never wants to speak to me again. I've lost the last job I could hold. If I can't finish this play before the money runs out, then I will stay here for good.
EDITOR'S NOTE, 11/16/1997: We have found newspapers from 1986 commenting on the disappearance of a Desmond Dwight in Chicago, Illinois. We can reasonably conclude that this log comes after his final excursion to the real world.
Addendum XXXX-S: The so-called "suicide note" was recovered from Desmond Dwight's corpse. Segments are obscured by dried blood. Its contents are as follows.
