SCP-3741-1-Image3
First recorded instance of SCP-XXXX-1.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Samples of the SCP-XXXX contagion are to be locked inside a cryogenic storage container, with one guard to be stationed outside. All instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be contained within a hermetically sealed containment chamber located on Site-114. It is to be entirely constructed out of rebar, with one reciprocal mirror installed for testing purposes. The opening to the chamber consists of a steel bulkhead, with one armed security guard stationed directly outside of containment at all times. Removal of samples from SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX for study requires the authorization of at least two Level-3 personnel. Testing of SCP-XXXX on D-Class personnel requires the authorization of at least four Level-3 personnel. All research personnel interacting with SCP-XXXX-1 are required to wear a Level B decontamination suit prior to entering the containment chamber. The chamber and bulkhead should be decontaminated on a weekly basis to prevent the spread of SCP-XXXX.

Any individual that displays traits consistent with SCP-XXXX or SCP-XXXX-1 are considered expendable, and must be administered with a heavy sedative before being transferred to SCP-XXXX-1's containment chamber.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a genetically modified virus that is transmitted through unprotected physical contact with any instance of SCP-XXXX-1, or injection of SCP-XXXX into the circulatory system. The virus is able to infect all organisms under the Animalia kingdom, however the infection is asymptomatic in non-human hosts. There is a one hour incubation period prior to initial symptoms occurring. During early stages of infection, there appears to be no harmful symptoms associated with the virus. SCP-XXXX infection can be roughly divided into four distinct stages:

  • Stage 1: 24 hours after initial infection. The SCP-XXXX pathogen begins a process of assimilation that prevents leukocytes from detecting and ingesting SCP-XXXX material, effectively rendering the immune system useless against it. The amount of white blood cells in the body also vastly increases, lessening the chance of the host contracting other viruses and diseases. The host's bones also present an abnormally high level of solidity. DEXA (DXA) scans1 of infected bone samples show an unprecedented standard deviation (SD) score2 of [REDACTED], compared to the average value of -1.0 and higher.
  • Stage 2: 48 hours after initial infection. The SCP-XXXX pathogen has completed its assimilation process and now cannot be distinguished from local genetic material by leukocytes. Computed topography scans of infected human hosts at this stage showed tumor-like growths developing over each organ. Upon further inspection it was revealed that these growths increased organ longevity, and also enhanced other related biological factors (e.g. larger lung capacity and increased cardiovascular fitness). The growths release specialized enzymes that anomalously regenerate telomere nucleotide sequences at the end of each chromatid, effectively extending the infected host's lifespan substantially. Predictions claim that the host at this stage of infection would have a lifespan longer than that of the ocean quahog (Arctica Islandica), the longest living non-colonial metazoan species with a maximum authenticated lifespan of 507 years. It is currently unknown if the growths become inactive at any point during the host's lifespan.
  • Stage 3: 150 hours after initial infection. The SCP-XXXX pathogen has spread to all internal areas of the infected host, and the growths over the the internal organs have fully-developed. Osteocytes and osteoblasts begin to form over the stratum corneum and undergo an unrestricted process of mitosis, leading to the beginning of the exponential development of an outer layer of bone over the epidermis. Infected experience high levels of discomfort and irritation prior to the initial bone growths forming over the skin. The infected host also experiences brief moments of immobility within certain joints, caused by the slow inflammation of joint capsules. All attempts to remove or dissolve the layer by the Foundation have proven to be unsuccessful, due to the bone's increased rigidity from Stage 1 of infection.
  • Stage 4: 156 hours after initial infection. By this point, the development of the outer layer over the epidermis has ceased, and the host will have been completely encased in bone. Infected hosts at this stage are hereby designated SCP-XXXX-1. All joints located on the human anatomy are frozen in place due to the inflammation of articular capsule envelopes surrounding the synovial fluid, causing chronic pain on all joint locations. However, due to the enhanced traits generated from Stage 1 and Stage 2 of infection, SCP-XXXX-1 is not diseased, and will often emit distressed vocalizations for large periods of time.

Addendum XXXX-01:
SCP-XXXX was discovered in █████, Louisiana after local authorities were tipped off by an anonymous note detailing the coordinates of a derelict house within the area:

[DATA EXPUNGED]

FIN FIND ME BEFORE IT SPREADS

PLEASE

Upon collection of the note, the Foundation's division in Louisiana was notified, resulting in the dispatch of MTF Lambda-12 ("Pest Control") to the coordinates specified. Upon arrival, a thorough sweep of the area was then conducted by Lambda-12 in which a private laboratory set-up was discovered within the basement of the residence, along with several items of interest, including:

  • The first instance of SCP-XXXX-1. DNA samples from the outer layer of bone revealed the object to be former local biologist in the area, Dr. Levi Ambrose, encased in bone.
  • Three vials containing the SCP-XXXX pathogen.
  • Various laboratory equipment, including two Nikon SMZ1500 digital microscopes, several test tubes, beakers, flasks, and petri dishes.
  • Two naked mole-rat carcasses with precise incisions located on the leg, underbelly, neck, and back. Patches of animal skin, presumed to be from the cadavers, were also recovered.
  • One A5 notebook, which contained several missing pages, along with large portions of text blacked out. Further examination of the notebook reveals that Dr. Ambrose was documenting SCP-XXXX's creation and development through journal logs.
