Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-A are held at Site ██ in a reinforced steel locker in Section ███. If they need to be removed, the person(s) doing so must be supervised by a Level 3 or above Researcher. Undercover security personnel and guards are to be dispatched within a 50 kilometer radius from July 10th to January 10th every year. Any SCP-XXXX-1 instances found are to be immediately subdued and contained in separate humanoid containment cells at Site ██. Anyone displaying symptoms of SCP-XXXX's memetic effects within a 50 kilometer radius are to also be monitored closely.

Description: SCP-XXXX was discovered after a series of disappearances and strange sightings in ███████, Massachusetts. After investigation, SCP-XXXX was found along with SCP-XXXX-A near Lake █████████.

SCP-XXXX is an antique TRF radio dated to the mid-1930’s. It is believed to have received radio stations such as KFKA and WWJ during its early use, but dropped out of human usage since 1942.

SCP-XXXX-A designates an RF transmitter that was located with SCP-XXXX and is used to receive and transmit signals from SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX’s anomalous activity is believed to have started sometime during the 1950’s, and continues to this day. SCP-XXXX’s anomalous effects are present if able to receive SCP-XXXX-B. SCP-XXXX-B is a sound wave that can only be picked up and transmitted by SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-A. The exact origin and location of SCP-XXXX-B’s signal is unknown, but because of satellite frequency tracking and probing by the Foundation, it is believed to come from the direction of the Eridanus constellation1.

SCP-XXXX will receive SCP-XXXX-B between July 10th and January 10th. When receiving SCP-XXX-B, SCP-XXXX-A will pick up the signals from SCP-XXXX, and from SCP-XXXX only. The transmitter will then transmit the signal to a seemingly random radio station within a 50 mile radius, although the signals have been shown on occasion to go farther. Any person hearing the transmission will undergo a memetic effect. This effect is split into four stages, and progressively gets worse with each stage.

Stage Alpha: The subject of SCP-XXXX’s effect will start showing a mild addiction to the SCP-XXXX transmission. Even if they are unable to listen to it again, they will attempt to recreate the sound of the transmission if they are able to do so. Other side affects include insomnia, mild auditory hallucinations, and withdrawal from society.

Stage Beta: The subject will continue to obsess over the transmission as the addiction gets worse. In many cases, subjects have broken into radio stations and deprive themselves of their senses to via blindfolding or earplugs in attempts to hear SCP-XXXX’s transmission. Drugs also seem to be increasingly and commonly used during this time. Auditory and visual hallucinations become increasingly common and vivid during stage beta. Mild manipulation of baseline reality is also observed in some instances. People who have personal connections to the subject or are in the same community may also experience abnormalities in behavior or perception of reality.

Stage Gamma: The subject, know designated as an SCP-XXXX-1 instance will fall into a perpetual state of psychosis. The subject will go to great lengths to avoid society and civilization, often ignoring or violently attacking anyone who tries to contact the person. Many others associated with the instance of SCP-XXXX-1 or in the same community commonly report a spiking in violent crimes within the area, abnormal behavior, strange sightings, and hearing voices. Physical augmentation of the body of the subject usually happens during this stage. Most recorded cases report the subject growing extra limbs in unusual places, bones or other bodily tissue transmuting into metals, and in rare cases, the transfiguration of organs or bones2. Even though most of these changes to the body would be fatal in baseline humans, SCP-XXXX-1 instances seem to adapt to such changes.

Stage Delta: SCP-XXXX-1 will completely isolate itself from civilization and seems to lose all past memories, only being concerned with the SCP-XXXX transmission. All instances of SCP-XXXX-1 develop a metallic antennae protruding from the cranium. This antennae’s purpose is as of yet unknown, but is speculated to pertain to the receiving of SCP-XXXX-B. SCP-XXXX-1 goes through a vegetative state from January 10th to July 10th. From July 10th to January 10th it will be in an active state. During this state, anomalous activity is common throughout surrounding environment. SCP-XXXX-1 instances will commonly make vocalizations akin to screeching and humming during this time. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will attempt to find nearby humans. If found, SCP-XXXX-1 instances will proceed to attack the person(s) present by inserting spear-like object of bone or metal into one of the person’s orifices. If successful, the person will proceed to undergo the transformation process into an SCP-XXXX-1 instance.

Addendum: A raid was conducted by a joint effort between the Fifthist Church and Serpent’s Hand on Site ██ on 8/29/11 in attempts to obtain SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-A. Several personnel were captured. An interview with Serpent’s Hand member, David Pelos or PoI-XXXX, was conducted by Dr. Stevenson.

Addendum: A chart compiled by Dr. █████ shows some instances of SCP-XXXX’s effects from 1958 to 2014.
