SCP 5310 “The d20”
Object Class: Euclid
SCP 5310 is a small object resembling a 20-sided die, commonly used in the popular tabletop role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons. This small object was found in [REDACTED], United States by D-5448. I comes in a carved redwood case with a full set of dice, one four-sided, one six-sided, one eight-sided, one ten-sided, one twelve-sided, and one one hundred-sided along with the twenty. The case has a small keyhole, with a small pewter key typically resting beside or on top of the case.
If the die is rolled and the number twenty (20) is face up (called a “natural twenty” by some personnel) then [REDACTED] and the physical body structure of the person changes, becoming SCP 5310-1. SCP 5310-1 is the physical manifestation of the player’s in-game character. Changes include height, weight, voice, and personal belongings. If SCP 5310-1 is carrying a wallet, cell phone, or anything on their person, it disappears. None of these belongings have been found at the current moment. All forms of SCP 5310-1 have been reported to have been from the edition of Dungeons and Dragons that the character was intended to play in, ranging from the very first edition to fifth edition. If a person rolls a “natural twenty” and does not have a character, they gain the abilities of a first-level human fighter from the fifth edition. Nothing physically changes with the exception of items on the person disappearing as stated earlier. In the event of 1 being face up (called a “natural 1”), the person who rolled the die will instantly perish, usually from cardiac arrest or organ failure. Nothing has been recorded happening with any other number rolled face up, other than ten (10) and eleven (11), both of which making illusory fireworks, stated to look “kinda pretty”.
SCP 5310-1’s appearance and belongings consist of any data written on the character’s sheet, or will simply bestow starting equipment to SCP 5310-1 if they do not have a character. SCP 5310-1 remains sentient, only having the body change and any of their abilities. These abilities are found either on the character sheet or the Player’s Handbook of that edition. A small, translucent number appears over SCP 5310-1’s head. The color can be changed at any time, and is presumably their “hit points”, as assumed by personnel. Nobody has experimented with what happens when this number reaches zero (0), but it is presumed that SCP 5310-1 will make “death saving throws” or die immediately. The number seems to reach a maximum of two hundred forty seven (247).
Once the die has been rolled, it teleports back into the casing and is imperceptible to anyone who has rolled it until 24 hours later. Containment is fairly simple, only consisting of locking the box with the dodecahedron inside. The twenty-sided die commonly may appear outside of the box, where it is simply placed back inside of the box, which is always a few inches away.
