SCP-3739
Item #: SCP-3739
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3739, SCP-3739-1, and the surround area, are monitored by video surveillance at all times. A perimeter is continuously maintained around the entrance of SCP-3739-1 by no less than 4 armed personnel, dressed in standard park ranger uniforms.
Any civilians that approach the perimeter are to be swiftly informed that the area is off limits due to the eminent collapse of SCP-3739-1’s main shaft and forcibly redirected.
Site inspections are performed weekly to confirm SCP-3739-1’s integrity.
Description: SCP-3739-1 is shallow mine shaft which abruptly ends at a pool of watery transparent liquid, SCP-3739.
SCP-3739 is 1.5 meters wide, 1.1 meters long, and .2 meters deep. SCP-3739 is anomalously kept at a temperature of 95 degrees Fahrenheit and emits a pleasant scent. These attributes seemingly serve as a luring tactic, designed to draw humans towards SCP-3739. It has been observed that temperature fluctuations within SCP-3937-1 have no effect on the liquids temperature, leading researchers to believe SCP-3739 is capable of some form of homeostasis.
After several test, the Foundation identified the specific nature of SCP-3739. SCP-3739 amplifies a single subliminal inhibition of whoever touches it; to the point where subjects forgo sleep, food, and water until this desire is realized. Although this process may take up to 5 days, the subject does not appear to show signs of sleep deprivation, malnutrition, or dehydration.
These wants, which are always fulfilled through immortal means, predominately consist of: wealth, fame, lust, liberation, and vengeance.
The potability of SCP-3739 has not been tested, but no adverse physical side effects, outside of amnesia, have been attributed to SCP-3739. The liquid is comprised of mostly water, though significant quantities of an unknown biological component have been found. When samples of SCP-3739 are taken out of SCP-3739-1, the biological organisms immediately show signs of rapid cellar death, making extensive testing difficult. Further analysis is required to fully identify the composition of SCP-3739.
Discovery: On May 5, 1963, British coal miners discovered SCP-3739 while conducting the preliminary excavation of a mine, SCP-3739-1. The Foundation became aware of SCP-3739’s existence after reports surfaced of miners (who possessed no prior criminal record) committing violent crimes, supposedly after coming into contact with SCP-3739. In each case, the miners had no memory of perpetrating the offense. Mobile Task Force Rho-1 was dispatched to conduct a sweep of the area in question, swiftly leading to SCP-3739's containment.
