Special Containment Procedure: The vial containing SCP 3482 is to be kept within a standard airtight cold storage unit within site-87. The cold storage unit in question is to remain locked within a vacuum chamber approximately 4m3 at all times. In the event of a power shutoff and containment breach, fail safe blast doors will be shut and magnetically sealed via backup generators.
Under no circumstance is testing with SCP 3482 to be preformed. Due to extensive testing already preformed, and the highly detrimental effects of the object in question, further tests would be repetition.
Item Description: SCP-3482 is a short lifespan, high reproductive rate extremeophile bacteria contained within a sealed glass vial. The glass vile is filled with a clear saline solution that houses the bacterium sample itself. The bacterium is can be transmitted through body fluid exchange, or through inhalation. Infected individuals are entirely asymptomatic regardless of age, sex, or ethnicity. Because of the airborne or fluid based transfer of SCP-3482, and the possible ramifications of a pandemic, the foundation taken the above measures to prevent infection of staff. Be advised: though symptoms do not manifest in directly infected individuals, there has not yet been a cure developed.
[NOTE: The following is based heavily on the contents of Object-3482-a, the notebook of one Yury ████████.] Anomalous traits only begin to manifest if a female of menstrual age becomes infected. Females who come into contact with SCP-3482 show no symptoms of infection, but begin to exhibit erratic and/or paranoid behavior if pregnant or impregnated while infected with SCP-3482. Besides this behavior, the health of the subject remains stable. Pregnancy shows no complications outside those possible with the pregnancy of a healthy individual. However, SCP-3482 is able to pass through the placenta and infect the developing fetus. The infected fetus, and eventual child, is classified as an instance of SCP-3482-2 This pre-natal infection seems to trigger symptoms to appear in the child. Upon delivery, the child in question will in 93.87% of cases show signs of complete deafness. However, if sounds are presented in a rhythmic or "sing-song" manner, they can be heard faintly by the SCP-3482-2.
"(SCP-3482-2) is born as a perfect apostle of God. They are pure, and uncorruptible" [Excerpt from the Object-3482-a]. Through testing it has become apparent that this line refers to the SCP-3482-2 instances being able to fully perceive hymns and sermons. The vocal patterns commonly used in religious sermons matches the range at which the instances of SCP-3482-2 can hear. Hypothetically it would be possible for a pandemic to lead to the mass birth of SCP-3482-2 instances, and thus rampant near-deafness.
The SCP-3482 bacterium shows remarkable resistance to nearly any environment. This includes: exposure of temperatures up to and exceeding 1000k, temperatures approaching 0K, exposure to sulfuric acid for fourteen (14) days, and being placed inside a vacuum for upwards of fourteen (14) days. However, the bacterium cannot reproduce while in a vacuum. What causes this is unknown.
It should be noted that SCP-3482 is able to infect at a much higher rate when transmitted through body fluids compared to inhalation.
Addendum 3482-1: Details of recovery
SCP-3482 was discovered amidst a wave of children born deaf within ██████, Russia. Mothers were traced back to a common place of worship. Foundation retrieval staff were dispatched to investigate the Church for a possible anomalous object. When the retrieval staff confronted the Priest, a one Yury ████████, he made an escape through the back of the church. The dispatched personnel tracked him back to his apartment. Once inside, the recovery team found the bodies of ████████ and his wife. Local authorities ruled double suicide. Among the personal effects of ████████, the original sample of SCP-3482 was discovered. The sample was labeled "Преданность" or "Devotion" in English.
Addendum 3482-2: An excerpt from Object 3482-a, the personal notebook of Yury ████████. This has been translated to English for ease of reading.
"It's finally complete, our masterpiece. We've finally found a way to purify the people of the world even before they come into it. No longer will they become corrupted by the outside world, no more will the non-believers keep their children from the warm embrace of god. O Lord, forgive me for creating life in your stead, but I believe that you will be very pleased with what I have fashioned."
