Description: SCP-4783 is a silver ashtray, produced in London in the mid 1960s. Research regarding the material that SCP-4783 is comprised of, found that the material is 97% solid sterling silver, and has no anomalous properties. However, when SPC-4783 is within 50 feet of any person who has a substance based addiction, they will leave all belongings regarding said addiction either in or beside SCP-4783. This has resulted in packs of cigarettes, flasks of liquor, and occasionally small containers of illicit drugs all being found in or around SCP-4783.
Addendum.1 | Abridged Testing Log
Research regarding the makeup of SCP-4783 was carried out by Dr. █████ at one of Site 76’s material science labs. This research found that SCP-4783 is comprised of 97% solid silver, and there are no anomalous materials that make up SCP-4783, however Dr. █████ was reported going down the hallway to his office and grabbing a whiskey filled flask, he returned to the lab and left the flask inside of SCP-4783. Despite Dr. █████’s self reported alcoholism, he reported no withdrawal symptoms in the slightest, and follow up testing regarding his sobriety were carried out for up to 2 years after his experience with SCP-4783, and blood testing found that he hadn’t consumed any alcohol since the encounter.
On June, 5 ████ SCP-4783 was transported to a homeless shelter in ██████, Washington and was left there for 5 days under Foundation surveillance. Foundation field researchers, disguised as homeless people, reported a large amount of cigarettes, alcohol, and illicit drugs being left in and around SCP-4783 day after day, and strangely no civilians attempted to remove SCP-4783 from the shelter. In a followup report 3 months later, those same researchers returned and asked about the number of people that said shelter has been receiving over the past few months. The shelter reported a 35% drop in the number of people receiving aid, and had received a staggering amount of messages of thanks from former homeless people helped by the shelter.
Testing was carried out on D-Class personnel regarding what most consider minor addictions. These addictions included caffeine, pornography, and binge eating. Test subjects were reported not to have taken all of there belongings regarding said addictions. And rather reported that they were simply compelled to cut down on whatever they were addicted to. One D-Class agent was reported to have lost 200 pounds in only 1 year after interacting with SCP-4783.
