Still frame from [4787-EX-44]
Item #: SCP-4787
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4787 is to be kept in a large, 12m x 12m x 12m enclosure, populated with large trees and tall grass. Infrared cameras are placed around the chamber and must be monitored 24/7 by rotating guard shifts. Several floodlights are also placed at key points in the chamber; however, these are to be activated only in the event that SCP-4787 becomes aggressive. An adequate water supply must be maintained at all times via an artificial pond in the centre of the enclosure. Water pumps and filters are to be checked and cleaned every month, and any anomalies are to be reported to the highest ranking on-site security staff ASAP. Upon a biweekly basis, several canines and cervidae are to be released into the enclosure as a means of feeding SCP-4787. In the event that SCP-4787 becomes aggressive and tries to escape the enclosure, the activation of the aforementioned floodlights are enough to force SCP-4787 into a docile state once again.
Description: SCP-4787 is a tall, nocturnal insectoid approximately 4.2m in height that bears a striking resemblance to the Lepidoptera family of insects, particularly the common Endrosis sarcitrella (commonly known as the "White-Shouldered House Moth"), both physically and genetically. SCP-4787, however, displays several unique traits unheard of in the moth subgenus, with the most prominent being carnivorous behaviour and a severe sensitivity and aversion to light. SCP-4787 has also demonstrated incredible strength and speed (see 4787-EX-44) as well as an ultra-dense bone structure. SCP-4787, while displaying above-average intelligence via [DATA EXPUNGED], has not proven sapient and cannot be reasoned with (see 4787-2-23-██-EV.mp4).
Discovery:
SCP-4787 was discovered after several hikers and their search parties went missing in the ████████ National Park; Foundation personnel were introduced, and after following a trail of forensic evidence, discovered a 'nest' of sorts, made out of an assortment of bones, sticks, fur, and leaves. Inside were the remains of both the missing hikers and their search parties, as well as a dozen other bodies decayed beyond recognition.
Foundation personnel successfully apprehended the specimen and suffered minor casualties.
It should be noted that SCP-4787 resembles the urban legend 'Moth-Man' in physical description. While SCP-4787's location at the time of discovery does not match with the established region of sightings, the possibility of several instances of SCP-4787 have been discussed. While several sightings have been investigated, no concrete evidence has been produced. Nonetheless, a task force (Iota-6 "Conspiracy Theorists") has been constructed to pursue possible leads, and by extension instances of 4787, as soon as possible.
Addendum: Due to an electrical error, floodlights in 4787's containment chamber were left on for 13 hours until maintenance could be performed. During this time, SCP-4787 seemingly built up a slight tolerance and flew a short distance before rushing to the safety of the tall grass.
Notes:
"Well, shit. - If 4787 does indeed build up a resistance to light, we may have to bump this thing up to Keter. The light's the only thing keeping it from trying to break out 24/7" - Containment Specialist Robert ██████
