Item #: SCP-4703

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4703 is to be confined to a small living quarters at all times and is to be monitored 24/7 at Site ██. Writing utensils are not allowed in or nearby 4703's cell. All records being made near 4703 must only be typed down on a computer.

Description: SCP-4703 is a Caucasian American male with brown hair and brown eyes in his late teens. 4703 has the power to change history with the stroke of a pen, pencil, or any writing utensil. In order to utilize its anomaly, 4703 must format the sentence as "What if [insert change to history here]?". If this format is not used, 4703's anomaly will not be triggered. 4703 typing a "What if?" on a computer or typewriter does not trigger the anomaly. When 4703 uses its anomaly, the previous timeline will cease to exist. 4703 will maintain all memories from the previous timeline as well as receive new memories from the new timeline. The anomaly is triggered 5 seconds after the sentence is written. If in those 5 seconds, 4703 shows the sentence another person, that person will also remember the previous timeline but will not gain any memories from the new timeline. 4703 can undo any alteration to the timeline by writing a "What if?" question with the historically correct information. Any previous changes to the timeline made by SCP-4703 are not effected by new changes unless addressed directly in the "What if?". The only history proven to be immune to 4703's anomaly is its own existence. Regardless of what the change to history is, no matter how big, no matter long ago, 4703 and all of his ancestors will still exist. It is unknown how many timelines 4703 created.

SCP-4703 and its anomaly were discovered by the Foundation on 04/29/20██ when 4703 showed a fellow classmate a timeline where the Confederacy won the American Civil War. After 4703 changed history back, the classmate soon told authorities and word eventually got to the Foundation. 4703 was apprehended days later at █████████ ███████ ██████ High School. Amnestics were given to all the students and faculty. 4703 has displayed high contempt to Foundation personnel and has openly admitted a want to breach containment.

Interview 4703-1:

Interviewed: SCP-4703

Interviewer: Dr. ██████

Foreword: Dr. ██████ is conducts an interview with SCP-4703 on knowledge of its anomaly inside its cell.

<Begin Log, 05/13/20██>

Dr. ██████: Hello, 4703. How are you?

SCP-4703: Oh you know. Pissed off, as usual. Just like every other damn day I've been locked in here.

There are a few seconds of silence.

Dr. ██████: Anyway, how long have you had this power of yours?

SCP-4703: I don't know.

Dr. ██████: When did you first discover it?

SCP-4703: I discovered it last year. It all started either July or August. I was a new driver and one afternoon I was driving down this main road in my car. While I was driving past an apple orchard, I had taken my eyes off the road to look at my dashboard. While I was looking down, this young woman coming from the apple orchard walked onto crosswalk and I…

4703 pauses for a second.

SCP-4703: …I fucking killed her. I was arrested and after a quick trial I was charged with vehicular manslaughter. I was sentenced 10 years in prison. Not only in a single moment did I take an innocent woman's life, but I had destroyed my future. All my dreams, hopes, and ambitions…

4703 snaps its fingers.

SCP-4703: …gone. My life was over. Even when I'd would have gotten out of prison, I'd would have my missed out my high school graduation, college, and so much opportunity. I was planning on applying for this well-paying Summer internship at ████████. But no. I had lost ten years of my life in an instant. I was at the lowest point I had ever been in my life.

4703 pauses as his eyes start to tear up.

Dr. ██████: Are you okay? Do you need-

SCP-4703: No. I'm fine.

Dr. ██████: Okay, okay. Please continue.

SCP-4703: Anyway, about a week into my prison sentence, I was writing a letter to my Mom in my cell. I writing how remorseful and regretful I was about the whole situation. In my state of regret, I had tearfully wrote to her, "What if I hadn't ran over that woman?" Before I could even finish the next sentence I was home, in my room, lying in bed. I wasn't wearing my prison uniform anymore, I was wearing my own clothes. I was confused, shocked, baffled. I went to downstairs and I saw my Mom sitting down on the couch. We she saw me, she just said "Hi". She wasn't surprised by my presence at all.

4703 pauses for a moment.

SCP-4703: That was when the memories started flooding in. Memories of the past few weeks before, but no how I remembered it. In the memories I wasn't in jail, I was home, I was at work, and I was mall, etc. Then the big one came. I vividly recalled myself in my car, looking up just in time, and slamming the brakes just before hitting that woman. That's when developed a theory, I remembered what I wrote down just before appearing in my room. I theorized that I had this super-power that allows me to change past events with writing a sentence, a "what if" question to be precise.

Dr. ██████: Then what?

SCP-4703: I had to test my theory out. A few days later I wrote on an index card, "What if Quebec had won their independence in 1995?" 5 seconds later and as I predicted, the change happened. I went online and did some research. Things didn't turn out so pretty for Canada. After Quebec declared unilateral independence, Canada had balkanized. The western provinces left to create "West Canada" and then the Maritime provinces followed suit. But then my memories of that timeline came in, and God was it disorienting! I now had two sets of memories of Canada and North American politics of the last two decades. After that I wrote "What if Quebec had not won their independence in 1995?" I had returned to Timeline 2. By that point I began designating numbers to the timelines.

Dr. ██████: Hmm. Were there any other timelines you made?

SCP-4703: Well I did explore quite a few other alternate timelines for a while, until you assholes caught me! And now I'm right back were I was, in a fucking cell!

4703 calms down.

SCP-4703: But I guess it doesn't matter so much, I'll be out of here soon enough.

<End Log, 05/13/20██>

Closing Statement: Following the interview, Dr. ██████ recommends no for testing be done with SCP-4703 as he could potentially seize the opportunity to erase its capture from history.
