Special Containment Procedures: Webcrawlers are to be on watch for “Emerald Fire” events at all times. Whenever an “Emerald Fire” event occurs, MTF Gamma-5 (“Red Herrings”) must be dispatched to the affected areas to control dissemination of information relating to SCP-XXXX, as well as bring any person believed to be under the effects of SCP-XXXX into Foundation custody1.
If individuals affected by SCP-XXXX cannot be returned to baseline behavior within 60 days they are to be terminated, and their communities amnestized a cover story for their disappearance released2. All Foundation personnel who participated in an “Emerald Fire” are to be amnestized at the conclusion of the event.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous message that players receive during active matches of online video games. SCP-XXXX uses a variety of mediums to spread itself, favoring video games that have large player bases and competitive elements. The Foundation has not been able to intercept any of these messages, and can only confirm their existence through corroborating reports.
When exposed to the message, individuals will become increasingly belligerent to everyone within social reach. Once the effects of SCP-XXXX take hold, victims will begin to use insults with cognitohazardous triggers. These cognitohazards will spread the effects of SCP-XXXX to susceptible recipients of the anomalous beratement. SCP-XXXX cognitohazards can spread verbally, through written or typed text, and sign language.
It is currently unknown who exactly is susceptible to the effects of SCP-XXXX, but subjects are most often adolescent males aged 10-19. To date, 21,366 individuals have been cured and released using a combination of amnestics and thaumaturgical therapy; however, this only accounts for 17% of contained cases.
