Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Threat Level: Yellow

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-X is to be kept in 10*10*10 meter enclosure, filled with different types of volcanic rock, within a steel cube. The walls of the enclosure are to be covered in heat radiators constantly set above 100 degrees Celcius. Instances of SCP-X are to be fed volcanic rock of some type once a week. In case of a Containment Breach Instances of SCP-X-A are to be given the recovery priority of Keter-class objects, due to their potential to interfere in the Containment of other Items, and are to be shot with cryogenic ammunition not to be engaged indoors under any circumstances.

Description: Instances of SCP-X are bipedal silicon-based lifeforms, commonly recovered after volcanic activity, resembling Oviraptor philoceratops (Oviraptors) in appearance and size, this resemblance appears to be the result of convergent evolution. Instances don't possess forelimbs, eyes or a respiratory system of any kind and have mineral-like tissue, features that imply proficiency at digging (sharp claws, a shovel-like head, etc), and features that imply proficiency at swimming (a flattened tail, streamline body, etc). The creatures Oral opening is an unevenly shaped beak resembling teeth.

It is unknown how SCP-X could evolve to this complexity, since silicone can only support the chemistry for single-celled life.

Instances show behavior consistent with symptoms of low environmental pressure and die when exposed to temperatures below boiling, at a rate depending on the exact temperature. Instances are generally docile unless underfed or harassed, and usually appear confused and scared until they have spent about three (3) days in containment, at which point they seem to "get used" to their new environment, and their behavior becomes more playful and curious.

A mutation has recently occurred in one of the specimens (from now on referred to as SCP-X-A), that causes the affected instances offspring to produce a mucous membrane in "colder" environments to keep them warm.

SCP-X is theorized to live in the Earths outer mantle naturally if it's the only species in this environment or part of an ecosystem remains unknown. It appears that they don't leave their natural habitat intentionally, instead being caught by a volcano during eruptions.

Addendum 1: In the event that a way of returning SCP-X to its natural habitat is found, all Instances are to be released accordingly, SCP-X's designation is to be changed to Archon/Ex and all findings submitted to the scientific community.

Addendum 2: All Instances of SCP-X at Site ███ were declared deceased shortly after some of them were transferred to the Super Deep Borehole in Russia, to attempt their release. A specimen, recently recovered in Antarctica, has contracted a disease that has been thought to be extinct for 10 million years (likely a silicone based germs), wiping out the entire SCP-X population of Site ███. Quarantine of remaining populations has risen in priority. No further instances have been recovered since.
