SCP-3953

Item #: SCP-3953 Relocating Road

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-3953 is to be monitored by at least 10 staff, with a level 3 researcher overseeing and recording any and all anomalous events, using surveillance cameras, installed at 15 meter intervals along the road and around the perimeter. Monitoring is required at all times and must be done at least 30 meters away from SCP-3953, to avoid all anomalous effects.

All staff within 10 meters of SCP-3953, must wear level A hazmat equipment to avoid being affected by SCP-3953. Coming into contact with particulates in the air may cause SCP-3953 to become active. This equipment only offers protection to particulates in the air, not SCP-3953 itself.

SCP-3953 will only relocate after a subject is engulfed, or it storms over SCP-3953, unless the storm extends beyond the relocation limits, at this point SCP-3953 will hide and relocate after the storm has passed. Any storm will cause relocation within 1 hour, no matter the severity.

After SCP-3953 finishes the relocation process, staff are to immediately begin searching for any unmarked roadways at a minimum radius of a 100 meters to a maximum of 400 meters, using satellite imaging. Unmanned drones are to be used to confirm suspected roads. SCP-3953 has not been observed to relocate outside of the specified limits.

When SCP-3953 is found, the surrounding area must be closed off. Once closed, surveillance cameras must be installed. Once the proper procedures have been completed, all personnel must clear the area. No personnel may come into contact with SCP-3953 directly or indirectly.

A perimeter will be formed, and a new road constructed at least 20 meters past the intersection, which will be secured with no less than 20 guards, to prevent anyone from trespassing. The perimeter must not extend beyond 50 m of SCP-3953. All trespassers are to be detained immediately. If they come within 10 meters of SCP-3953, cease any chase and interaction with the subject.

In the case of SCP-3953 relocating to a highway, it will appear as an exit. The two closest lanes are to be closed for 20 meters on either side around the exit. SCP-3953 will still retain it's original image.

All signs erected by SCP-3953 are to be taken down, if possible, or covered up. These instances of SCP-3953 do not have any anomalous abilities.

Guards will wear the uniforms of construction workers to avoid suspicion. All guards are to conceal any and all weapons until required.

SCP-3953-2 is to be disposed of using remotely controlled drones. The liquid, clothing, and surrounding ground are to be placed in a stainless steel container and brought to a nearby furnace for incineration. This is the only effective way of disposing of SCP-3953-2, and subjects' personal affects.

All metal objects coming into contact with SCP-3953 or SCP-3953-2 do not have any lingering anomalous effects, however, they can still transmit SCP-3953's ability.

Item Description:

SCP-3953 is a one lane road, composed of an asphalt like material with an unknown composition, spanning 33 meters in length and 10 meters in width. The object has 2 solid yellow lines running along the center of SCP-3953, spaced .1 meter apart. Other than the [DATA EXPUNGED] on the ██ meter marker, there are no other discernible markings. The [DATA EXPUNGED] appears to glow during the relocation process possibly what allows SCP-3953 to relocate. [DATA EXPUNGED] origin is unknown, however, 5 of the 23 symbols appear to be in latin. (See Addendum 3953-2)

SCP-3953 was first discovered after a series of investigations across the North Eastern region of the United States, all of which went cold. After 18 total cases, the █████ ██████████ Police Department arrived on scene and discovered SCP-3953 in the process of engulfing a family of 4. The police tried to help them, but ultimately met the same fate. Following this event, the Foundation was contacted.

SCP-3953 will only appear connected to other roads and will not cross over bridges. When connected, SCP-3953 will give the appearance of a normal intersection at the beginning, and ends in a dead end. SCP-3953 will lure subjects to it by using signs offering shortcuts, food, rest areas, erecting signs on the perpendicular road, directing the subject to take SCP-3953.

When SCP-3953 relocates, it appears to become severely weathered over time, then disappears all together. This is the beginning of the relocation process, which can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 weeks, when certain criteria has been met. This has been observed to occur from twice a day to once a month. There are no lingering anomalous effects when SCP-3953 relocates.

When SCP-3953 relocates, it usually conforms to the landscape and makes changes as needed. SCP-3593 has been observed to, essentially, cut through the Earth, causing a 4.0 earthquake after disturbing a fault line, however, this has only happened once.

SCP-3953 will become active when a subject has come into direct or indirect contact with the object. Symptoms of 1 out of 40 known diseases, and 2 unknown diseases will arise within 2 minutes after initial contact. The symptoms will appear randomly and continue for a period of 5 to 30 minutes, death follows.

After death, SCP-3953 will appear to engulf the subject, leaving no organic material behind. During that process SCP-3593 will produce a black colored liquid of unknown composition, labeled as SCP-3953-2. SCP-3953-2 has displayed the same anomalous properties as SCP-3953. (See Addendum 3953-1)

Addenda:

Addendum 3953-1: SCP-3953 does not affect any other life forms other than humans, with the exception of certain species of dogs, cats, moose and deer, and all species of squirrels and rabbits.

Addendum 3953-2: [DATA EXPUNGED]

Addendum 3953-3: All tests involving the penetration, cutting, or moving of SCP-3953 have been unsuccessful, and resulted in immediate relocation. All tests conducted on SCP-3953-2 have been unsuccessful. Testing on both objects have been indefinitely suspended.

Addendum 3953-4: SCP-3953 will only relocate to rural areas, or appear as highway exits, and has not been observed to relocate inside of cities, towns, or any other places with a gathering of humans, with the exception of highways.
