Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a locked steel box stationed at Site-08. Under no circumstances are foundation personnel to open the box, with the sole exception of testing purposes. SCP-XXXX is to be handled with protective gloves at all times. Any instances of SCP-XXXX-01 and SCP-XXXX-02 are to be moved to light containment facilities and provided with economic literature.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a copy of Capitalism and Freedom, written by the late economist Milton Friedman. The book itself has no defining features from other copies, except for a written message on the back of the cover that reads, “For Rosa, my one true love.” The handwriting of the message is identical to that of Friedman’s.

SCP-XXXX was recovered on 01/23/19 in Portland, Maine. This was in response to various social media posts by locals, who claimed to have seen various figures similar to Milton Friedman walking around in the local library. Foundation agents eventually arrived and successfully retrieved all instances of SCP-XXXX-01 and -02, as well as SCP-XXXX.¹All social media posts were removed, and all locals have been amnesticized.

SCP-XXXX’s anomalous effect takes place when a male human makes physical contact with the book. Upon contact, the exposed individual (now referred to as SCP-XXXX-01) will complain of a severe headache, and request to be seated. After 15 minutes, SCP-XXXX-01 will state that the headache has cleared, proceed to pull out a pair of glasses and a notepad², and write down various notes, ranging from personal feelings to advanced econometrics, even if the instance had no prior knowledge of the subject. The handwriting of these notes are all identical to Milton Friedman’s. After approximately 15 hours, SCP-XXXX-01 will collapse to the ground in apparent pain. SCP-XXXX-01’s skin will begin to rapidly degrade, eventually peeling off entirely. The skeleton of the subject will begin to rapidly change until it is identical to that of Milton Friedman. A new layer of skin³ will quickly envelop this skeleton, concluding SCP-XXXX-01’s transformation.

These new entities (designated as SCP-XXXX-02) are completely identical to Milton Friedman, retaining knowledge of his past work, family life, political involvement, and lectures. SCP-XXXX-02 instances all claim to be 50 years old.⁴ Every instance of SCP-XXXX-02 claims to be Milton Friedman, and will express confusion upon encountering another instance of SCP-XXXX-02.⁵ Thus far, no instances have shown any anomalous traits. Each instance will die after 44 years have passed since it underwent its transformation.

Addendum: Due to each instance of SCP-XXXX-02 retaining memory of the true Friedman’s knowledge, one of the instances is being used as an optional education program for Foundation personnel. This program is being overseen by Dr. Grant.

2. Even if there are no pockets present anywhere on SCP-XXXX-01’s current outfit, they will somehow manifest these items. This has been classified as a reality distortion.

3. It appears that this skin also grows an organic suit and tie. SCP-XXXX-02’s outfit shows no anomalous properties, and removal of the outfit has not yet been attempted.
