Special Containment Procedures:

All but one instance of SCP-XXXX is to be kept inside cave █████. The cave is to be sealed shut at all times unless a new instance of SCP-XXXX is needed. Before entering the cave for any reason approval by Dr. ██████████ is required. All instances of SCP-XXXX outside containment shall be exterminated on sight.

The one instance of SCP-XXXX meant for testing will be designated the title SCP-XXXX-2. When not used for testing SCP-XXXX-2 is to be kept incapacitated in an air tight containment unit without any lights. Incapacitation can be reached by temperatures below -20°C or by filling the containment with any incapacitating gas, preferably halothane or methoxypropane. There is to be sensors either inside or outside the containment that reports any activity. If activity were to rise above acceptable levels an alarm will be sound. If SCP-XXXX-2 were to awake not during testing it needs to be closely monitored using heat cameras until it is incapacitated again.

When handling SCP-XXXX, personnel is to wear gloves and protect any non-covered skin unless necessary for testing. Any personnell caught not following these protocol will be immediately demoted.

Description:

SCP-XXXX is a swarm of entities with appearances similar to that of a cranefly. Sizes vary but on average they have bodies roughly 8cm long with wings roughly 10cm from tip to tip. They have 6 legs, 3 on each side, and two small fangs in its mouths. Its bite is to be avoided. Though not physically dangerous, it has shown to cause a chronic fear of craneflies ranging from minor to intense. SCP-XXXX also has the ability to get through seemingly any space that isn't airtight resulting in them invading homes, especially at night.

It doesn't seem like SCP-XXXX is affected by either sound or pressure, but is very sensitive to light.

Addendum XXXX.1: Discovery

The swarm of SCP-XXXX was discovered by ███████ working with a missing people crew in the area of ███████. The person being searched for had been last seen close to cave █████, and because of that they decided to search inside the cave. It is believed that the bright flashlights had awoken SCP-XXXX and caused the swarm to attack. The swarm had later moved to a nearby town and a lot of people were bitten. The town was evacuated and closely monitored for approximately 2 months. On Decmber 16th the temperature outside was measured to be -24°C resulting in the ground being littered with dormant instances of SCP-XXXX. Due to this personnel could contain them safely inside the cave and seal it shut.

Addendum XXXX.2: Research

Research for a cure and more secure ways to contain the anomalies is currently in progress. At the time of writing the research has been paused as any testing of SCP-XXXX has been evaluated to have more risks than benefits. The research will continue at an undetermined time and if no cure can be found within an undetermined amount of time the subjects will be neutralized
