Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid Safe

Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-XXXX are to be kept secure in a standard humanoid containment cell equipped with audio and visual recording devices. The cell must be fully stocked and prepared to house three human occupants for a period of one week. The cell must be restocked by a team of three D-Class personnel wearing headgear designed to protect against attempted attacks by SCP-XXXX instances in between occupancies weekly. Additionally, the cell is to be provided with one D-Class individual for every instance of SCP-XXXX every six days to continue the containment and study of SCP-XXXX. The allowance of D-Class personnel may be adjusted should the population of SCP-XXXX instances in containment fall below three.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a species of maggot-like parasites composed entirely of human gray matter and bone marrow. Instances of SCP-XXXX utilize small "legs" made of the aforementioned bone marrow to move in a manner similar to centipedes and support its main biomass which resembles a large maggot. Instances of SCP-XXXX range in length from 25cm to 45cm and weigh anywhere from 100g to 185g.

SCP-XXXX instances sustain themselves by attaching to the back of the head of a human subject. Experimental data suggests that SCP-XXXX instances will not attach to subjects below the age of eighteen. The instance will remain attached for a period of roughly one week, with seemingly no effect on the subject. Physical damage dealt to the subject as a result of SCP-XXXX’s attachment heals at an abnormally fast rate and no long-term detrimental symptoms of exposure to SCP-XXXX have been determined.

It has been observed that SCP-XXXX instances will begin to prune and slow their movements if they do not attach to a human head for a period of two weeks. This process will continue until the instance expires after a period of three weeks without a human subject. For this reason, the population of SCP-XXXX has decreased to three instances from the initial five instances at discovery.

Addendum XXXX-1: On December 28th, 2019, Project Lead Dr. Allen conducted an interview with D-1407582, a man named Caleb Voss, shortly before he was exposed to an SCP-XXXX instance. Dr. Allen again interviewed D-1407582 on January 3rd, 2020 shortly after his exposure.

Discovery: Five instances of SCP-XXXX were initially discovered in Ferndale, Washington. Reports of missing persons and strange flora growing in the area garnered the foundations attention on February 9th, 2019. A Mobile Task Force unit was sent into the area to investigate claims that an abnormally large greenhouse was the epicenter of this phenomenon. Exploring this greenhouse, the team discovered countless varieties of unknown non-anomalous species of flora and evidence of human inhabitation.

The team eventually came across a small study room, with several terrariums, desks, and shelves full of books, in the center of the room laid a pile of burnt research papers and journals. A small, handwritten note was placed on one of the desks in the room, Document XXXX-1. Laying next to one of these terrariums was a decomposing corpse of a man wearing researcher’s clothes. The scalp of this body had been removed and was laying next to him. Additionally, his brain was nowhere to be found. Inside of the terrarium the body was found adjacent to were five instances of SCP-XXXX.

Addendum XXXX-2: On January 4th, 2020, Project Lead Dr. Allen voluntarily exposed himself to SCP-XXXX-3 in place of one of the designated D-Class personnel while being observed by a team of researchers in order to personally determine if there are any ill effects of SCP-XXXX exposure. Post exposure, Dr. Allen updated the object class of SCP-XXXX from Euclid to Safe, and made the following statement to his research team:

“I am certain that exposure to SCP-XXXX has no negative effect on well-being, but we should of course remain vigilant in ensuring their survival.”

Further study of SCP-XXXX has been discontinued for the foreseeable future.
