Item #: SCP-XXXXObject Class: Euclid |
BY ORDER OF THE OVERSEER COUNCIL
The following file is Level 4/XXXX classified. Unauthorized access is forbidden.
XXXX
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained in a storage room at Site-55. SCP-XXXX is to be contained as long as it is not exposed to anyone for prolonged periods of time. Due to the effects of SCP-XXXX and the connection to a previously undocumented being referred to as the Walker Upon Reality, experimentation involving the SCP can only be done by the current Lead Researcher or the Site Director.
Anyone who experienced prolonged exposure to SCP-XXXX without prior authorization is to be amnesthicized or terminated depending on the level of exposure.
Description: SCP-XXXX is the combination of two items, designated SCP-XXXX-A and SCP-XXXX-B. SCP-XXXX-A is a painting depicting a middle-aged male, clothed in Renaissance-era garb. Testing has revealed that the pigments used in the creation of said painting date to the 16th century. SCP-XXXX-B is an aged journal written by an unnamed individual who appears to be the painter of SCP-XXXX-A.
Both SCP-XXXX-A and SCP-XXXX-B are filled with images and sketches of a symbol that resembles a distorted sun rising over a horizon. The pages within SCP-XXXX-B contain writing which decrease in legibility as it goes on; eventually becoming unreadable and nonsensical. The text of the journal appear to resemble depictions of Alagadda from SCP-2264 and the Hanged King.
Prolonged exposure increases the effects increase the intelligence and awareness of the subject. Subjects exposed to SCP-XXXX-A have shown knowledge that they should be unaware of if not outright incapable of learning.
Examples of knowledge shown by the subjects exposed to SCP-XXXX-A include:
- Intimate knowledge of one of the Doctors at the hospital's love life that they haven't interacted with in the past.
- Knowledge of Multivariable Calculus despite having never completed high school.
- Knowledge of the inner workings of the SCP Foundation and GOC despite being unfamiliar with both organizations due to the veil.
- Knowledge of the incident leading to the death of Dr. Aidoni's younger sister during an incident involving SCP-███.
- Knowledge of ██████.
- Knowing the real name of ██████.
After studying the journal extensively, the foundation currently believes that the portrait is a containment unit for a previously undocumented being. Because of the journal's contents and a potential connection to SCP-2264, Dr. Aidoni has decided that all experimentation involving SCP-XXXX will be kept at a minimum until it can be determined whether or not the prisoner poses a risk.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered on 4/13/20██ by Foundation operatives investigating odd reports of patients at █████ recovering from otherwise incurable mental illness. They found SCP-XXXX-A locked away in one of the treatment rooms and SCP-XXXX-B in the possession of Dr. █████. After determining the anomalous properties of the painting, it was brought to Site-55 for initial testing and Dr. Felicity Aidoni was assigned to studying the effects of the painting.
Following an incident where a D-Class exposed to SCP-XXXX-A during an experiment lead to the subject telling in detail what happened to Dr. Aidoni's younger sister during an incident involving SCP-███, she ordered further testing to be done under careful observation by herself.
Well, this is my first assignment as a Senior Researcher and they gave me a painting, go figure. SCP-XXXX has been shown to have the property of curing mental illness, a curious effect to say the least. I wonder if it wasn't for the other effects that we've seen this SCP may actually be useful.
The journal, now that's another matter entirely. I swear to god that I've never seen anything like this before. All the information in this journal seems to line up with the reports from SCP-2246, suggesting a connection to Alagadda. I'm going to have to research these subjects further in order to determine if there is a connection between the painting and the Hanged King.
The symbol that appears is troubling though. I haven't seen anything like this before, but the journal seems to imply that it belongs to something called the Horizon Walker1.
If there is a connection to the Hanged King, I'm afraid of what that might mean for the future.
| SCP-XXXX Test #1 | |
| Subject | D-55201 |
| Protocol | D-55201 is exposed to SCP-XXXX-A for three hours. |
| Results | D-55201 begins to exhibit lucidity after 30 minutes pass. By the end of the three hours, D-55201 appears to be more knowledgeable about the inner workings of the Foundation than an average D-Class should be able to. They are also aware of the existence of SCP-████2. Subject is applied an amnestic and the knowledge and other effects of the exposure seems to be removed. |
I've long been looking for the inspiration I need for painting. I'm finally getting it though, every night I have been visited by images of a city like nothing I have ever seen before. The city is consumed by madness, dressed in masks. They are not of God's creation, but there is something almost alluring about them, as if they are telling me to paint them, to paint their world.
I can't resist, my patron is always searching for peculiar artwork and other things. Perhaps if I was to bring this to him he would pay me properly. I shall endeavor to replicate what I have seen in this city into my art.
SCP-XXXX-A Test #8 Video Log Transcript
Date: 1/19/██
Test Subject: D-68219
Lead Researcher: Dr. Felicity Aidoni.
[BEGIN LOG: 0900 HOURS]
Dr. Aidoni is sitting in an observation room watching a room with SCP-XXXX-A hanging on the far wall. Dr. Aidoni begins speaking into a tape recorder.
Dr. Aidoni: We are starting Experiment #8 on SCP-XXXX-A. We will be exposing D-68219 to the effects of the painting for six hours. Following the mixed results of experiment #7, I believe that increasing the amount of time by two hours instead of one will yield further results.
She presses a key on the terminal that she's working on. The door opens and a male D-Class enters having been pushed in by guards.
Dr. Aidoni: D-68219, you are to make eye contact with the painting for exactly one minute. After which you are to report everything that happens as you do so.
D-68219 remains in place for a moment before being prodded by one of the guards. He does as ordered, holding his gaze on the painted gaze of the portrait.
[CONTINUED LOG: 1450 HOURS.]
D-68219: I hear something… damn it get out of my head…
Dr. Aidoni: D-68219, what are you hearing?
D-68219: There's a voice, I think it's a man. He's speaking to me, but I'm having a hard time understanding him. Get me out of here, I'm not insane!
Dr. Aidoni turns off the intercom and takes out her tape recorder and turns it on.
Dr. Aidoni: Fascinating, this is the first indication of any sort of interaction between a subject and anything anomalous within SCP-XXXX-A. This seems to prove that the journal entries referring to a prisoner trapped within the painting are true. However, if the Hanged King saw fit to imprison it…
Dr. Aidoni pauses as she looks at the tape recorder for a moment.
Dr. Aidoni: If the Hanged King saw fit to imprison a being within the painting, that may be something to be concerned about. I will continue the test in order to see if we can determine what is happening.
[END LOG]
THIS TESTING LOG HAS BEEN CLASSIFIED LEVEL 6/XXXX-PANDORA.
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX can be contained by quarantining infected individuals within the confines of Site-55. Any personnel showing signs of SCP-XXXX infection is to be placed into containment at Site-55's Keter-class holding cells to maintain containment. Anyone who is found to be infected with SCP-XXXX is designated as SCP-XXXX-A.
All SCP-XXXX-A instances are to be held in containment cells in a sealed section of the facility equipped with hidden doors, retractable connection tubes, and constantly maintained poison gas surrounding the section.
If any SCP-XXXX-A breach containment, they are to be immediately terminated. To avoid the spread of SCP-XXXX among the population, no human contact with SCP-XXXX-A is allowed. If instances of SCP-XXXX-A are found outside of containment, Procedure 128-Epimetheus is to be put into effect immediately.
All personnel assigned to SCP-XXXX are to be routinely monitored for SCP-XXXX specific genetic markers. When access must be granted to the containment, all subjects are to be moved to their respective quarters via robotic assistance
In the event of a containment breach, detonation of the on-site nuclear device is to be immediately carried out.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a Memetic Virus that is estimated to be present in 3% of the human population of Earth. SCP-XXXX remains dormant in the host's DNA until exposed to unknown external stimuli, however it has been shown to activate when on exposure to SCP-XXXX-B3.
If triggered in a human host, the full effects of SCP-XXXX will occur within an hour. Following this period the subject begins to lose the capability of speaking any language. As the effects progress, the subjects slowly become more animalistic, losing any recognizable human intelligence. When exposed to SCP-XXXX-B subjects begin to experience an extreme regression in mental capacity. The resultant regressed state can be compared to the sapience of most members of the Hominoidea family (apes)4.
Exposing a healthy individual to an instance of SCP-XXXX-A, regardless of whether or not the subject has the matching genetic markers, will cause the individual to become infected. It is currently unknown how individuals outside of Site-55 can become infected, however, the Foundation believes that there are environmental effects mimicking the effects of SCP-XXXX-B.
Experiments have shown that application of high level amnestics can undo the effects of SCP-XXXX, but only if administered within the first hour of initial infection. There have been no reported cases of successfully reversing the effects of SCP-XXXX after the onset of symptoms.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered in the course of experimentation with the compound SCP-XXXX-B during its initial testing at site-██. By the time the full effects of SCP-XXXX were realized, it had already spread enough to cause a full sector containment breach. Sector-██ was immediately quarantined to prevent further spread of SCP-XXXX.
Due to the incident involving the Sigma-3 Compound, further testing on the compound has been cancelled on the recommendation of Junior Researcher Felicity Aidoni. Following sedation and containment of all subjects, Dr. Greene's body has been recovered. So far, exposing the affected to amnestics seems to be doing the trick, but further testing may be required in order to be sure.
Dr. Aidoni is concerned about the long term effects of the compound and we are ordering a full check up of Dr. Greene as well as the affected D-Class. Dr. Aidoni's containment procedures are sloppy, but effective enough for the time being. I have ordered no one to be allowed into the containment cells, we will be posting guards outside them for the time being.
For now this will be sufficient to contain them. I hope that this is an isolated incident given it was likely a side-effect of the Sigma-3 Compound. Dr. Aidoni will be transferred to head up the study of SCP-████ for the time being. I believe her experience with such matters will be of great value in its research.
Due to a combination of further testing, the near containment breach, as well as comparing notes to our information from the Human Genome Project have proven troublesome. There appear to be a series of genetic markers which, when interacting with the effects of Compound Sigma-3 trigger a memetic virus that will turn the infected into a more animalistic state.
As we were unaware of the situation when Dr. Aidoni wrote up the containment procedures, we were unprepared for the aggression shown by the individuals infected. I believe this is also how it was able to spread so quickly among the test subjects. While not all of them likely had the same genetic markers, the memetic nature of the virus allowed it to spread quickly. Dr. Aidoni was lucky to escape its effects, possibly by not making direct contact with the infected.
Further testing has shown that 3% of the Earth's population are susceptible to infection. For now I recommend we erase all traces of Sigma-3 and prepare for the possibility of infections outside of containment just in case. We don't know what might trigger this virus, so for now we have to take all precautions.
I will be writing up further procedures in the event of a full containment breach or an outbreak in the general population. For now, the virus should be classified as an SCP and studied further to determine the threat.
In the event of either a catastrophic containment breach of SCP-XXXX or a major outbreak of the virus in a human population, the following procedures are to be put into effect.
Containment Breach Procedures:
- If SCP-XXXX-A subjects have breached the door or walls of the affected sector and entered the surrounding area, the area is to be filled with gas or the automated gun emplacements are to be activated.
- If SCP-XXXX-A subjects have entered the main site, containment doors will be closed regardless of evacuation status. Individuals exposed to the infected are to be contained without contact if possible - or terminated where this is not achievable.
- In the event of a full site breach, then the on site nuclear device must be activated. This will happen automatically if the Site Director does not input his code within 20 minutes of a containment breach of SCP-XXXX.
Outbreak Procedures:
- If the instance of SCP-XXXX-A is caught early enough, then they are to be terminated and all individuals who were exposed to them given amnestics as long as it happened within the infection window.
- Should the outbreak exceed one hour, then all infected are to be terminated.
- If the area is compromised, then all individuals within the infection zone are to be considered expendable and must be terminated.
All further testing into Compound Sigma-3, now referred to as SCP-XXXX-B, has been cancelled. Remaining stores of the compound have been destroyed as of 8/14/03. To prevent a repeat of the initial incident, all of the notes on SCP-XXXX-B are to be destroyed.
Mobile Task Force Gamma-3 "Wild Men" will be assigned to deal with any activity of the virus outside of containment. There have been no recorded incidents of an SCP-XXXX incident occurring outside of Site-55.

Interviewed: Dr. Felicity Aidoni.
Interviewers: O5-5, O5-7, O5-11
Foreword: A formal interview with Dr. Aidoni following up on further research into SCP-XXXX after the initial incident.
<Begin Log, [0830]>
O5-5: "Dr. Aidoni, I assume you know why we have called you here today given recent events at Site-55."Dr. Aidoni: "Yes, I was present for the testing of Compound Sigma-3. However, after what happened to the D-Class involved and Dr. Greene I was moved to head up work on SCP-███, so I am mostly unfamiliar with what happened with the virus afterwords. I was under the impression that the Director had it classified."
O5-11: "Correct, however the truth is that further investigation into the incident with Sigma-3 requires information to be contained to those who are already aware of it. The Council has decided that the incident involving Sigma-3 must be kept secret. The Ethics Committee has agreed that it is the only way to avoid a greater crisis."Dr. Aidoni: "Exactly what are you getting at? It was just a failed mnestic that interacted with a rare memetic virus."
O5-7: "That was the cover story, yes. However given you were part of the team that studied the compound, we have agreed that you will need to be written in about what's going on."
O5-5: "SCP-XXXX is far more widespread than was originally anticipated. And the effects are not quite what the official report says."
O5-11 removes papers from a briefcase and pushes them across the table to her. She flips through the pages, reading them as she looked at the three Overseers.
Dr. Aidoni. "You're joking."
O5-11: "We do not joke about SCPs, Doctor Aidoni. You can see why we have made the decision to keep this only to the Council and the few individuals already aware of what's going on. The fact of the matter is that information about the virus may cause problems if it gets out."
Dr. Aidoni: "No kidding, the implications alone if this is accurate could cause a mass panic. Are we sure that the virus is this widespread?"
O5-7: "We've run through every genetic sample we have from Foundation personnel, humanoid SCPs, and random subjects from the general population. They all tested positive for the Genetic Markers."
Dr. Aidoni: "How far spread do we think it is?"
O5-11: "Dr. Aidoni, all projections imply that the virus is spread worldwide. The nature of the virus implies that it is ancient."
Dr. Aidoni: "Then that means Sigma-3 didn't activate a Memetic Virus that caused the D-Class to become like that…"
O5-5: "Correct, what you have to understand is that if this virus has the effects we believe it has, then there is only one conclusion to be reached. Human consciousness as we know it appears to be the result of an anomalous virus."
Dr. Aidoni: "And you want to make sure that no one else finds out about it, I can understand that. What do you want me to do?"
O5-11: "If containment of the SCP is impossible, then the only option is to make sure that no one finds out it exists. You will continue your work, but we want you to work in secret to write up the protocols in order to make sure that this doesn't happen again."
O5-5: "We're already fairly confident that at least the Sarkic Cults are aware of the virus' existence already. We need to ensure that information doesn't spread further."
Dr. Aidoni: "Understood, I will write up the protocols."
O5-7: "Dr. Aidoni, you understand that violation of containment of SCP-XXXX are grounds for termination correct? You will not be allowed to work with any of your current team on the protocols."
Dr. Aidoni: "I understand. You can count on me."
<End Log, [0911]>
Closing Statement: The O5 Council agreed to Protocol 091-Pandora put forward by Dr. Aidoni in order to preserve the veil of secrecy around SCP-XXXX. All files on SCP-XXXX have been classified level 6/XXXX-Pandora.
The Protocol:
Protocol 091-Pandora is the only means by which SCP-XXXX can be contained. As the nature of the virus means that it is incurable and uncontainable, this is the only chance we have at avoiding a full scale event. If Groups of Interest including the Church of the Broken God and the Horizon Initiative become aware of the virus, the Foundation must prepare for an "Open Box" incident, and take all efforts to remove knowledge of SCP-XXXX with either high power amnestics or termination if necessary.
Prevention of knowledge of SCP-XXXX is done through searching through web posts for any mention of odd behavior. Also planted Foundation Agents in labs studying the human Genome or DNA are to monitor their work and divert attention away from the genetic markers for SCP-XXXX.
Should a group gain access to SCP-XXXX-B, or any similar compounds to it, the Foundation must take efforts utilizing MTF Gamma-2 for to contain and destroy it. If the group has the compound, and is aware of the nature of SCP-XXXX; the Foundation must remove them by all means necessary. Failure to do so will likely result in a MK-Class End of Human Consciousness Event.
Should 091-Pandora fail, the 'Hope' Protocol must be issued. Memetic Kill Agents will be deployed to remove the individuals affected by SCP-XXXX-B, and SCP-2000 must be put into effect as quickly as possible. If there is no one left unaffected, SCP-2000 will not be effective.
If all protocols fail, then all possible options must be exhausted, but it is likely that it will not work. We can only hope that something or someone may allow us to rebuild in the distant future.
Open Box Incidents:
An Open Box Incident refers to an incident where one or more groups gain knowledge of SCP-XXXX's true nature. The Foundation is already aware of both the Sarkic Cults and Marshall, Carter, and Dark being aware of the virus, but their interests seem to be more in line with the Foundation's efforts towards containment. Any other groups or individuals who become aware of SCP-XXXX must be monitored or have amnestics applied if needed.
People wonder what the meaning of life is. It seems we've found it, and it's the only thing that separates us from animals. We've all read the myths, and this job is just enough to make you think that there's some truth to them. SCP-XXXX makes you wonder even more. Maybe it was a gift from a trickster spirit, or maybe there's something more that even we do not know.
-O5-1
Special Containment Procedures: Containment of SCP-XXXX is impossible due to the nature of SCP-XXXX. The Foundation's first objective when it comes to SCP-XXXX must be to maintain a constant state of secrecy surrounding the true nature of SCP-XXXX. Access to files of SCP-XXXX is limited to four members of the O5 Council at any time as well as individuals who were involved with the initial incident involving SCP-XXXX-B.
Containment of information must be performed in line with Protocol 091-Pandora in order to prevent an "Open Box" Incident. A complete failure of containment of SCP-XXXX's existence will result in an MK Class End of Human Consciousness Event. All Groups of Interest as well as the Internet and any researchers into the human genome are to be monitored for any signs of knowledge of SCP-XXXX's true nature.
In order to maintain the lie, a false file for SCP-XXXX will be developed by Lead Scientist Dr. Felicity Aidoni based on the cover story. Any knowledge of SCP-XXXX outside of the Foundation will be contained with the use of amnestics or MTF Gamma-2.
If containment is fully breached, then there is no point at maintaining the masquerade. The only thing that can be done is work to restore normalcy at all costs.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a Memetic Virus that is present in the DNA of every human being currently living on the planet. In addition, study of DNA following the Human Genome Project has uncovered genetic markers for the virus going back to early humans. It also involves subjects who have been cured of this virus who live in an animalistic state referred to as SCP-XXXX-A and a currently neutralized compound referred to as SCP-XXXX-B. And a serum referred to as SCP-XXXX-C, which is to be referred to as an amnestic
After research into the effects of SCP-XXXX-B on D-Class subjects, it is believed that the primary anomalous effect of SCP-XXXX is granting humanity consciousness. SCP-XXXX-B interacts with the genes associated with the virus and removes them from the subject's DNA. The effect essentially cures the virus in the subject. However doing so regresses them to a state of sapience comparable to most members of the Hominoidea family (apes).
The only reliable method appears to be injecting the subject with SCP-XXXX-C within the first hour. SCP-XXXX-C must be tailored to each individual using blood samples in order to repair the damaged DNA. If the hour passes however, there is no reliable way to cure the subject after the full effects of the compound pass.
As of 5/23/2004, further testing involving SCP-XXXX-B has been banned and stores of the compound destroyed.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered initially as part of the Human Genome Project when Dr. Marcus Greene, a Foundation Scientist Monitoring the project, recognized odd gene patterns. They at first glance resembled the rest of the genome, however he recognized genetic markers similar to other anomalous genetic viruses. Proof within the genome was hidden until it could be tested to see what the virus' true nature was.
SCP-XXXX-B was developed at Site-55 after it was discovered that the proper combination of chemicals would neutralize the virus. Ten D-Class were assigned to the initial test which was overseen by both Dr. Greene and the Junior Researcher Dr. Felicity Aidoni. During the test, the full effects of the virus were realized with Dr. Aidoni being the sole survivor of the observation team.
After further testing was done, it was discovered that the virus had a chance of triggering in 100% of the human population once exposed to SCP-XXXX-B. By the order of O5-1, further testing of SCP-XXXX-B has been banned and all information on SCP-XXXX is to be contained to prevent knowledge of the virus from spreading to groups of interest or the general population.
Anyone who has ever become aware of SCP-XXXX has wondered about exactly where such a virus would have come from. There have been stories throughout the ages of creation gods creating humans. Others speak of teacher gods who impart their wisdom upon humans and give them the roots of civilization.
Maybe this was all just different cultures' interpretation of SCP-XXXX. It would explain how the virus became so widespread. We have had archaeological teams investigating sites as early as the Sumerians as well as early hominids to try and track down this origin point. One of them managed to make one breakthrough at least.
A Sumerian artifact in one site depicted a figure that could not be identified based on knowledge of past artifacts. However this figure was walking with a staff and held what appeared to be a sphere of flames in the other hand that he was holding out to a kneeling figure. However what is most noticeable about the first figure is what wraps around his arm and the sphere, a serpent.
This would be considered an isolated incident however we have found similar images throughout ancient history. I cannot say for sure if this is concrete evidence of a being giving the virus, the flame of civilization to our ancestors. We have to consider the possibility however that this is where SCP-XXXX originated from.
All information on the artifacts have been classified and the artifacts housed at Site-55. Until their significance can be determined, they must be considered classified as part of Protocol 091-Pandora.
The Early Infection of SCP-XXXXDue to how ancient the Virus appears to be, most of what can be said about SCP-XXXX remains speculation.
While SCP-XXXX appears to be symbiotic at first glance, it is likely that it was far from the case at the beginning. The virus' effects on early humans would have been more akin to a modern day viral outbreak, the effects essentially would've killed them due to the effects on the brain's neural pathways. However, humanity would adapt with the survivors getting stronger and becoming far more intelligent and able to out think their un-infected counterparts.
Regardless of how the effects came about, the effects on humanity cannot be ignored. We went from primitives crouching in caves over a fire to the modern civilizations as we know it all due to this virus. We wouldn't be what we are today without the effects of SCP-XXXX, and that scares me a little if I'm being honest.
I'm starting to realize this is the really insidious part of SCP-XXXX. And this is why we have to keep it secret. The implications of what we would be like without the virus… we can only speculate what the other groups would think. I'm not even sure what my colleagues on the Council would think if they were made aware of what's going on.
THREAT LEVEL: HIGH LOW.
Initial assessments of SCP-XXXX suggest that containing information pertaining to it and the Sarkic Cults should be made a high priority.
Following a raid on a Sarkic compound in the Ukraine, it is believed that the Sarkic cults have known about the existence of SCP-XXXX much longer than any Group of Interest. However their notes on it and the fact that they have not acted upon this knowledge has made the O5-Council reach the conclusion that any risk from them is minimal.
THREAT LEVEL: HIGH.
While the Church of the Broken God is unlikely to make any large scale efforts to neutralize SCP-XXXX, analysis of their beliefs has reached the conclusion that they cannot be trusted with this information. Because of their belief in the idea of transcending the Flesh with machine parts, it is my belief that knowledge of SCP-XXXX would risk them becoming more radical and willing to achieve this state at any cost.
THREAT LEVEL: MEDIUM.
The mandate of the Horizon Initiative when it comes to non-Abrahamic religions generally has them looking down on anything that doesn't match up with their beliefs if not outright trying to remove them. While it does not pose a risk of neutralization, we believe that the implications of the virus' origins may cause problems with the Initiative. Until we can fully understand SCP-XXXX, the Horizon Initiative is considered a medium priority to avoid an "Open Box" scenario with.
THREAT LEVEL: LOW.
The only known incident with Marshall, Carter, and Dark related to SCP-XXXX occurred on 9/17/2013. Representatives of the company approached Foundation operatives in relation to an individual associated with a group that left the Daughters of Eden5 who offered to sell a compound that seemed to be identical to SCP-XXXX-B. A representative of Mr. Dark agreed to set up a sting operation that lead to the arrest of the cult and destroyed the compound. Further investigation proves that the compound would not have neutralized SCP-XXXX, but the Daughters of Eden will be monitored from here on.
For now, Marshall, Carter, and Dark seem to be aware of the existence of SCP-XXXX, but they have no desire to see it be neutralized either. The fact that Dark was the one to reach out to us, even through proxies, suggests that he shares our concerns. Whether or not he could be considered an ally in any future endeavors is unknown.
THREAT LEVEL: HIGH.
After what happened with SCP-4971 we should have kept a closer eye on this group. After the incident involving Marshall, Carter, and Dark we have been monitoring the group's actions closely related to SCP-XXXX. Whether or not they are fully aware of the existence of SCP-XXXX we don't know yet, but we do know that they have been studying compounds similar to SCP-XXXX-B. Whether this is the main cult or an offshoot we do not know yet. Regardless, we have to make sure that the Daughters of Eden do not know about SCP-XXXX. Containment in the event of an "Open Box" scenario is to be considered a high priority.
NOTE: The Daughters' attempt to replicate SCP-XXXX-B appear to have hallucinatory properties when exposed to a person. However the effects appear to be pretty minor, comparable to other hallucinogens that can be normally found on the market.
As a scientist, witnessing the effects of SCP-XXXX-B on the infected is fascinating. It's a rare insight into our most basic of human instincts. However as a human being it terrifies me, the idea that we could be reduced to animals by something as simple as a few chemicals. I was part of the team that made it to begin with, so the idea that I could be responsible for this is unsettling sometimes.
I've been observing the activity of the infected and it's starting to become more clear to me exactly what kind of effects SCP-XXXX have on the human mind. The subjects still retain their most basic of instincts, some of them have even taken to developing tools out of the few things that are lying around the containment area. They're basic, somewhat reminiscent of the kind of tools you see primates making.
Something of a social group has also formed with a dominant male. I've witnessed him killing two other males that seemed to have tried to challenge him for the role. The behavior is somehow both inhuman and familiar at the same time. I believe that their basic instinct is what the virus effects, maybe even feeds on, suppressing it and strengthening certain other aspects of the psyche.
The affected humans seem to lack culture, art, civilization itself. I'm starting to realize that this is the true effects of the virus, the gift given to us by Prometheus or the Serpent in the Garden, whichever you want to believe is the case. I don't think it matters, either this is the root of these myths, or its something else entirely. We took fire from the gods, and our civilization exists because of it.
After the last batch of D-Class test subjects were successfully exposed to the serum SCP-XXXX-C, we seem to have at least found a successful way to counteract the effects of the Sigma-3 compound. The downside is that it won't work after an hour and it requires an intact DNA sample from the subject to begin with. But given we started with nothing, this is a solution.
I'm going to file my recommendation with O5-1 to fully remove the Sigma-3 Compound from all our stores and the Foundation records. I believe that we will not learn anything more from testing the compound on individuals.
Interviewed: Victoria Sawyer
Interviewer: Dr. Felicity Aidoni.Foreword: An interview with the member of the Daughters of Eden that attempted to sell the compound similar to SCP-XXXX-B through Marshall, Carter, and Dark.

Dr. Aidoni: "Ms. Sawyer, you are here because you were found attempting to sell contraband material through Mr. Dark. Given the severity of…"
Victoria: "Cut the bullshit, we both know what that compound really does. You're here because your Foundation wants to know just how much the Daughters of Eden know about the Blight."Dr. Aidoni pauses a moment before shuffling together some papers and looking at the younger woman right in the eyes. Victoria shrinks in her chair and tries to look away.
Dr. Aidoni: "That is what you call SCP-XXXX then? The Blight?"
Victoria: "Y-y-yes, it removed humanity from it's natural state. It is a blight upon our species, so we were attempting to remove it."
Dr. Aidoni: "Curious then that you would try and sell it then."
Victoria: "Gaia's Gift was not perfect, but we found some advantages to it, it opens your mind to the world around you. It gives you insights like no other into…"
Dr. Aidoni: "Don't give me that, it's a drug, and not exactly one that does anything new. Mr. Dark's associate has handed over all of the compound that you gave them and we found what was left. What do you really think the compound is going to do if you use it on people?"
Victoria pauses a moment as she shifts uncomfortably. Dr. Aidoni remains stoic, Victoria just becoming more uncomfortable as the Doctor stares at her.
Dr. Aidoni: "Well?"
Victoria: "We were told that the Blight is a virus that infects all human beings on this planet. They told us that the virus is the basis for modern civilization, and that removing it will make people go back to a simpler time."
Dr. Aidoni: "Who was it that told you about this?"
Victoria: "I don't know, the head of my sect was the one who knew anything. I don't know what happened or where any of the information came from. She just told us that we had to work on Gaia's Gift. She told us that it was the only way to finish our duty to the Earth. That's all I know, I swear.
Dr. Aidoni writes some notes down. She flipped through some pages in her notes for a moment before looking back at Victoria.
Dr. Aidoni: "Who else in the Daughters of Eden are aware of the virus?"
Victoria: "Only my sect was aware of it. We wanted to make sure that everything was perfect before we came forward with the information on how to destroy the Blight."
Dr. Aidoni: "Are you sure about that?"
Victoria: "I'm positive, you already know how that ended. My sisters will find other ways to remove the Blight. Soon, the world will be able to…"
She is cut off when Dr. Aidoni slams her hands down on the table, scaring her.
Dr. Aidoni: "You and your sisters are messing with forces beyond your understanding. Your 'sisters' in Havensbrook thought the same thing and their actions puts everyone at risk. You don't know what you almost did. What you could've done if you had succeeded. You may be free to believe what you want, but not when it puts people at risk."
Victoria: "What are you going to do with me? I have rights, you can't…"
Dr. Aidoni: "Let me make something very clear, you can't tell us what we can and can't do to you. This project is top secret, most of my organization doesn't even know why you're really here. Your sect is gone, and by your own admission no one else knows about it. We're going to make sure it stays that way."
Victoria: What… how are you…
Dr. Aidoni reaches to her side and draws a pistol that she shoots Victoria with. Victoria slumps down as Dr. Aidoni holsters the pistol and walks over to the intercom and activates it.
Dr. Aidoni: "Sir, everything is in order. She confirmed what we already knew from Gamma-2's Raid on the Daughters of Eden Compound."
O5-1: "Then we have avoided catastrophe, for now at least. Is she removed as a threat?"
Dr. Aidoni: "Yes sir, Victoria Sawyer will no longer pose a risk to Protocol 091-Pandora. The rest of the Sect have already been removed."
O5-1: "The others on the council who are aware of SCP-XXXX will be informed. The rest will assume it's another attempt to do something similar to what happened in Havensbrook."
Dr. Aidoni: "Do you think the Daughters of Eden will try again if they find out about it?"
O5-1: "Without a doubt. We will keep a closer eye on the Daughters. What about the leak?"
Dr. Aidoni: "Plugged, luckily they weren't able to get a complete version of Sigma-3. I've made sure that nothing else will happen."
<End Log, 1847>Closing Statement: The O5 Council sent out a notice that any activities carried out by survivors of the Daughters of Eden are to be closely monitored by any nearby Foundation teams. Victoria Sawyer along with the rest of her sect of the Daughters of Eden were found in an apparent group suicide a week later.

— O5-1.
This fire is the light of knowledge as well as the root of civilization. It was this flame that was given to our ancestors that allowed them to finally pull themselves out of the stone age and into the light. The serpent has long been derided as the tempter of man, but what if that knowledge was something far more?
We have long kept the light, ever since we were first brought it by the Giver. There are many secrets in this world that even those who call themselves guardians of secrets know nothing about. You have only scratched the surface of the truth. The light must not be extinguished. You understand that, so we will not simply repeat the truth.
You call them Prometheus, we call them the Serpent, they are one in the same. A god who walked among men, a trickster hidden away in Eden. We were cast out of the innocence of our old life when we were granted the light. Some gods were angered, others believed that it was just another step towards civilization.
You now have taken up our cause. You must protect the light like we have for millennia. Today, our causes align. The Serpent in Eden has come and gone, now we must hold onto that fruit he gave us and we ate.

SCP-XXXX INCIDENT: Video Log
Date: 4/16/03
Subject: EXPERIMENTAL MNESTIC COMPOUND SIGMA-3.
Lead Scientist: Dr. Marcus Greene.
Junior Scientist: Dr. Felicity Aidoni.
Test Subjects: D-42921, D-6123, D-92120, D-2224, D-71214, D-877, D-52013, D-34200, D-9091, D-10140.
[BEGIN LOG: 1421 HOURS]
Dr. Greene stands in the testing chamber while Dr. Aidoni watches offscreen from the observatory.
Dr. Greene: "Starting testing on Mnestic compound designated Sigma-3. Test subjects will be subjected to the compound for the standard amount of time. Dr. Aidoni, if you will now administer the compound to D-6123."
Dr. Aidoni: "Administering Sigma-3 compound. Monitoring subject's vital signs."
Typing is heard from off screen as Dr. Greene observes an IV drip change over to a different liquid. Subject struggles against restraints after exposure to compound. Dr. Greene jots this down as he watches the subject fight his restraints. The subject's pupils begin to dilate before he becomes unresponsive..
Dr. Greene: "Interesting, that seemed to have some sort of reaction at least. That is a good start, continue to administer the mnestic, I will join you up there shortly. I want to observe the initial testing down here."
Dr. Aidoni: "Are you sure that's safe? We don't know what kind of effects Sigma-3 will have on human physiology. There may be some side effects."
Dr. Greene: "I'll be fine, you worry too much. They're restrained, I'm not that worried, like I said I'll see you up there in a moment."
Dr. Aidoni: "Alright, I'm going to go make sure the system is working fine though. I don't want anything going wrong."
Dr. Greene: "Understood, I will see you in a minute."
[TIMESTAMP: 1515 HOURS.]
The test subjects are now fully conscious and struggling against their bonds. At this point they are no longer speaking any intelligible language, instead they are letting out animalistic grunts and cries, struggling harder against their bonds as they try to escape.
Dr. Greene: "This doesn't make sense, none of the early test subjects showed any signs of this kind of behavior."
Dr. Aidoni: "I don't like this, sir I need to go back to the lab and check the notes from the animal tests again. This doesn't make any sense."
The sound of feet moving can be heard over the recording while the subjects have now broken free of their restraints. One of them is lumbering around as if looking for something.
Dr. Greene: "Go, I'm going to trigger the failsafe system, this is just a setback, nothing more. We can learn from this and make things better next time."
Dr. Aidoni: "I hope you're right, Doctor. I'm contacting the Site Director just in case, we can't risk this happening again."
There is the sound of a door shutting and compressed air.
Dr. Greene: "What are you trying to do…"
One of the subjects finally lifts a stool that was in the room and throws it towards the camera. There is the sound of breaking glass followed by screaming before finally silence.
