SCP-XXXX

An image of a desk light of a similar make and model to SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a standard locker in Research Lab 21 in Site-19. Access to SCP-XXXX and pre-approved research materials are available to any personnel of Clearance level 2 or above who have submitted Request Form XXXX-A to Dr. Morris. Request Form XXXX-B may be submitted by personnel of Clearance level 3 or higher to request the addition of any materials to the approved materials list. Personnel accessing SCP-XXXX are required to be accompanied by Dr. Morris or a senior member of the research team.

Description: SCP-XXXX resembles a normal desktop magnifying glass with a light, usually used as a reading aid by those with extreme ocular impairments. On the bottom of the base the words "Property of Mrs. █████ Rm ███ █████ Nursing Home" can be seen written in sharpie. SCP-XXXX appears to be, and functions as, a completely normal reading aid.

SCP-XXXX shows two anomalous properties, the first is its ability to interfere with cameras. When SCP-XXXX is located within visible range of a camera all attempts at taking a photo or video with a digital camera will result in an error, and any attempts with a film based camera will result in the shutter to become jammed.

Its second anomalous property occurs when a subject observes a photograph through the lens of SCP-XXXX and turns on its light. At the moment the light is turned on, the subject is transported to another reality, designated SCP-XXXX-B. SCP-XXXX-B will appear to be the location shown in the photograph at the exact moment it was taken, including the surrounding areas not included in the phrame. Initial testing has shown that the properties of SCP-XXXX-B vary from picture to picture but it is currently unknown why this is the case. Three characteristics appear to stay consistent however, SCP-XXXX-B will always appear to be the location in the photograph used to access it, electronic devices do not work while inside SCP-XXXX-B, film based cameras, both photo and video, will not work in SCP-XXXX-B.

Anything brought into SCP-XXXX-B from the outside world will not be affected by it's properties, for example, if everything in SCP-XXXX-B is black and white, everything that is from the real world will still be color. When a person is brought into SCP-XXXX-B they will appear right behind a camera, either placed on a tripod or suspended in mid-air. The camera will be the same make and model of the camera used to take the initial picture and will be exactly where the camera that took the picture was located. In the camera's direct line of sight will the the scene shown in the original picture viewed through SCP-XXXX, and if a person located within SCP-XXXX-B attempts to retake the original picture with the camera they will be transported back into the real world.

Initial testing of SCP-XXXX shows different results for different photographs. Besides the environment changing to match the photograph's contents, some photographs result in instances of SCP-XXXX-B that are, in color, in black and white, moments frozen in time, interactive, un-interactive, among various other phenomenon. However it is currently unknown what it is about each picture that decides the properties of SCP-XXXX-B, but testing has shown that the same picture will generally result in the same SCP-XXXX-B instance.

Research Notes XXXX-1: The results of the visibility test seem to show that the contents of SCP-XXXX-B tie back into the observer's perception of the photograph at the moment of creation. It is entirely possible that SCP-XXXX might work with pictures other than photographs maybe even computer generated environments. I believe that if we can figure out if SCP-XXXX-B is truly a simulation of real life or just our perception of it we can potentially find a way to dissect or disassemble normally irreplaceable to study them further without the risk of losing them forever. I think if we can crack the perfect combination of variables to create an instance of SCP-XXXX-B that is fully intractable and matches our reality near perfectly we can research topics we never could research before. - Dr. Morris SCP-XXXX Project Director

What to do next
First of all if you are reading this and you aren't me, thanks for reading this, it means a lot to me that you would go out of your way to read my SCP draft. But you should probably know I am no where near done yet. Here is a list of things I want to do.

Have experiments based off of, Different types of photo paper/paper, different camera types, different photo styles (portrait vs horizontal), brand of camera, how old the camera is, how detailed the camera is, how long the exposure was, using negatives themselves instead of photos, photos on things like cups and shirts, photos that were Photoshopped, photos that were drawn on, computer generated environments that look like they could be real, and much more. However I do not plan to do all of this at once, that would be insane. I will probably cut some ideas or combine some or both.

Probably wont use for this SCP but might reuse this concept for a tale or something I dont know yet
Addendum XXXX-X: SCP-XXXX was originally brought to the attention of the foundation via one of our agents planted at the office of the popular paranormal tabloid the █████. A man came into the office claiming to be a bank representative in charge of the estate of POI Rodger Pride (see attached) who recently passed due to natural causes. He claimed that while inspecting Mr. Pride's belongings he activated SCP-XXXX, was transported to SCP-XXXX-B, and was stuck for several hours before returning to where he arrived and finding SCP-XXXX-C and SCP-XXXX-D and figuring out how to return. After verifying his claims the man was given standard Class A amnestic and given a cover story about hitting his head while inspecting Mr. Pride's bathroom.
