Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5587 is to be contained in an offshore netted enclosure measuring 2 km2. The containment site is to be kept under the public facade of a wildlife rehabilitation site. SCP-5587 is to be fed zoo-plankton on a daily basis. In the event that SCP-5587-B passes the population threshold, feeding cycles are to be changed to bi-weekly until SCP-5587-B’s population falls under the threshold.
Description: SCP-5587 is the collective designation for both SCP-5587-A and B. SCP-5587-A is a group of 47 sardines in the European Pilchard subspecies. Testing has shown that when under certain conditions, SCP-5587-A will exhibit human-level intelligence and be able to control SCP-5587-B. Testing has revealed that SCP-5587-A is incapable of reproduction. SCP-5587-B is a group of roughly 500,000 sardines also of the European Pilchard subspecies. On close examination it becomes apparent that every singular SCP-5587-B specimen is identical in all physical and mental attributes. Examination of SCP-5587-B behavior reveals it is capable of reproduction. When under the influence of SCP-5587-A, SCP-5587-B appears to operate under a hive mind, possessing no concept of self preservation, and will perform any task it is instructed to perform with flawless coordination. When not controlled by SCP-5587-A, SCP-5587-B will become a normal sardine.
