Description: SCP-3503 is a completely black canvas inside a cheap 53*43 cm wooden frame. The margins of the frame reflect the last place it was located before being recovered by the foundation. Its anomalous effects manifest under 3 4 conditions:
- The lights are on and it is being observed.
- The lights are on and it is not being observed.
- The lights are off and it has not been observed within 24 hours.
- SCP-3503 is removed from its frame.1
Looking at SCP-3503 with lighting in the room causes a memetic effect on the viewer. At first glance the viewer will always say "Hmm" in the exact same pitch and length across all experiments. The viewer will then sit in front of the painting and stare at it endlessly unless forcefully removed. When asked to describe the painting the viewer will give a unique description different between each viewer.
After 30 minutes of viewing the painting the subject will become distressed, noting that the painting has become in image of something they are afraid of. If left with the painting any longer they will develop a nosebleed and note that the painting no longer scares them. Brain scans taken after this happens reveal that the viewers Amygdala has been removed.
