SCP-5254: "A Bad Egg"

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5254 and SCP-5254-1 are to be contained in satellite site [REDACTED], within a suspended box of not less than three (3) meters by three (3) meters by three (3) meters comprised of interlocked and replicable lead glass panes. This box is to be suspended within a second room of replicable five (5) centimetre thick (2 inches) floor panels comprised of steel and surrounded by ten (10) meters of concrete on all sides, excepting the singular entry point. These plates are to be replaced no less than once per month, or replaced immediately when contamination or conversion of the affected plate is detected by maintenance personnel. Personnel are not to bring energetic material, electronic devices or unshielded biological matter into the containment chamber unless otherwise authorized by researchers. No direct contact with SCP-5254 or SCP-5254-1 is to be made under any circumstances, excepting for approved experimentation purposes. Non-assigned personnel seeking access to Satellite Site ██-█ and SCP-5254 requires individual written approval from 05-█.
Personnel assigned to SCP-5254 are to be subject to full NBC decontamination procedures before entering or interacting with SCP-5254 or SCP-5254-1, as well as upon exit of the containment chamber. All staff must wear full NBC protective gear within the containment chamber and should spend no more than 15 minutes per day within the chamber for any reason, unless approved for experimentation purposes. All assigned staff are required to undergo weekly physical and psychiatric examinations as well as be subject to weekly DNA screening tests for unexpected mutations, anomalous properties or unexpected changes in behaviour. Deaths of assigned staff are to be treated as infectious and their bodies classified as SCP-5254-2, and then incinerated. Cases of SCP-5254-3 are to be captured and contained in isolation for observation and given class A amnestics. For cases of SCP-5254-3 that are too anomalous or unpredictable, they are to be terminated and their bodies incinerated.
In order to counteract SCP-5254’s constant growth, a mass of SCP-5254’s extending veins equalling ██ kg/m3 per day is to be physically severed from the tips of SCP-5254’s extending veins and incinerated.
In the case of unrecoverable site containment failure or if SCP-5254 is determined to no longer be containable, staff are ordered to attempt to incinerate SCP-5254 and SCP-5254-1. Should this fail, staff are to use the onsite nuclear weapons to destroy the containment site.
Description: : SCP-5254 is an object of unknown matter and origin recovered from a meteorite impact on a remote farmstead in ██████, █████████ on █3/0█/198█. SCP-5254 displays both biological and inorganic properties with the appearance of roughly cut stone, laced with purple, crystalline veins. Its appearance is roughly egg shaped with varying measurements depending on extent of growth. Tests have revealed SCP-5254 possesses DNA that does not share any known common ancestor on Earth, with much of its physical structure comprised of iron and silicate alloys not found naturally on Earth. Attempts have so far been unable to artificially reproduce this material with the same protective properties displayed by the surface of SCP-5254.
From the veins at the base of the egg extend several crystalline tendrils of similar material to the veins covering SCP-5254. These tendrils grow in a manner similar to a tree’s roots, seeking new material and space to inhabit, but at a vastly accelerated rate. SCP-5254 will attempt to cover and convert any material it can reach into nutrients to continue its growth through an unknown process. Dr. ██████ believes it may be breaking and recombining atomic nuclei to add to its own structure through a currently unknown process. To date, no tested material has been able to resist the conversion process.
The conversion process in SCP-5254’s dormant state converts matter at a rate of ██ kg/m3 per day. If an aggressive cutback or significant destruction of SCP-5254’s vein growths is performed, it will begin aggressively attempting to regrow them at a rate of ███ kg/m3 per day until it returns to its previous level of growth. The veins of SCP-5254 performing the conversion begin to secrete a viscous purple biological, radioactive, mutagenic liquid as material is converted, referred to as SCP-5254-1. SCP-5254-1 releases levels of gamma radiation considered lethal to most life as well as producing electromagnetic discharges, often seen as arcing purple electricity. SCP-5254-1 also contains fragments of the DNA found in SCP-5254. Currently, it is debated as to whether or not SCP-5254-1 is considered alive in a clinical sense. Despite the electromagnetic emissions, SCP-5254 is unaffected by secretion of SCP-5254-1. Direct skin contact with SCP-5254-1 is highly corrosive to flesh, often jolting affected persons with electric shocks and inflicting lethal radiation poisoning within several seconds of direct contact. To date, 80% of known unprotected contacts with SCP-5254-1 have ended in fatality due to radiation poisoning within twenty four hours of exposure, most died within thirty to sixty seconds. Deaths from exposure to SCP-5254-1 are collectively recorded as SCP-5254-2. Current count of SCP-5254-2 as of 2020/12/01 is ███.
Cases of survived exposure to SCP-5254-1 are classified collectively as SCP-5254-3. Of all ██ cases of SCP-5254-3, all have displayed varying levels of changes in personality or behaviour and display tangible genetic mutations. █ cases have developed randomized anomalous or mutated properties and have been contained after being administered class A amnestics. These properties range from gaining blue skin pigmentation, rapidly accelerated aging, or in rare cases, begin displaying anomalous properties, such as SCP-[REDACTED].
Formerly D-Class personnel ███████ after being exposed through an undiscovered breach of his NBC protective equipment during 3 successive maintenance shifts began to display anomalous alterations to his bio-chemistry. SCP-[REDACTED] began displaying significant increase in [REDACTED] as well beginning to produce SCP-5254-1 within new organs grown as part of the mutation process within his own body, implying potential [REDACTED].
In all cases of SCP-5254-3, subjects require at least a meal supplement of SCP-5254-1 to survive, as evidenced by the death of SCP-5254-3-█ and █ by starvation of SCP-5254-1, despite ready access to a range of normal foodstuffs and connection to IV fluids. SCP-[REDACTED] is now capable of consuming only SCP-5254-1.
As per Recovery Log 01, SCP-5254 appears to be at least resistant to firearms of strength equivalent to buckshot. Additional experimentation reveals SCP-5254 does not appear to be slowed or adversely affected to exposure to vacuum or blunt force trauma, but does appear to be capable of being incinerated with temperatures exceeding two thousand five hundred (2,500) degrees Celcius.
Due to the lack of materials capable of resisting conversion by SCP-5254, Dr. ██████ believes that with sufficient time and lack of containment, SCP-5254 could possibly expand to cover and convert most of the planet and life on it. See Research Log 036.
