Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept inside SCP-XXXX-1, which is to be kept in a standard locker at Site-19. Personnel that wish to conduct tests involving SCP-XXXX are to obtain Level 3 or higher authorization. While testing, personnel are to ensure that no humans come into contact with SCP-XXXX
Description: SCP-XXXX is a 2.75" x 2.75" x 2.75" wooden puzzle cube that appears to have 7 separate pieces. SCP-XXXX-1 is a wooden box that SCP-XXXX was originally found in and seems to be immune to SCP-XXXX's effects. Both objects appear to have some mild weathering. Carbon date testing has been inconclusive.
When objects come in contact with SCP-XXXX, they will instantly turn into various different kinds of puzzles. Most physical objects will become mechanical puzzles of some sort, while documents that are exposed to SCP-XXXX will tend to become various word puzzles such as crosswords and riddles. When the puzzles are solved the object will return to its original state before it came in contact with SCP-XXXX. There seems to be no pattern in how the difficulty of the puzzle is decided.
All written descriptions of SCP-XXXX will turn into a puzzle much like a puzzlehunt, and in order to gain access to the original description one must solve the puzzlehunt.

Object: A standard sheet of printing paper, 8.5'' x 11''
Result: A 100 piece jigsaw.
Status: Solved by Dr. ██████.
Notes: Not particularly difficult, but puzzles that are only one color are always annoying.
Object: A metal sphere 6'' in diameter
Result: An object similar to a Perplexus, with a small ball on tracks that are arranged in such a way that makes it difficult for the ball to go across them. These tracks fill up the majority of spherical space, and have numbers on them indicating where the ball should go next.
Status: Solved by Researcher ████████████
Notes: Considered getting to the end of the tracks as solving the puzzle, and any attempts at cheating such as putting the ball on a later track would teleport the ball to the start instantly.
Object: A 50 foot coil of manila hemp rope
Result: A massive knot
Status: Currently unsolved
Notes: The assumption is that the solution is to untie the knot, but not a lot of progress has been made. An attempt was made to cut through the knot, but it appears to be impervious to damage.

Director Karyle Aktus once brought up to me the idea of attempting to truly understand the anomalous. Why do they exist? What exactly are they? He said that it is the Foundations duty to try to unravel the mysteries of what we contain, and that in doing so we would be better serving humanity.
At the time, I thought he was crazy. Why should we try to understand anomalies? Trying to understand why 682 hates everything or why 3000 does… whatever the hell it does seemed preposterous to me. The purpose of the Foundation is to put all of our efforts into containing the anomalous in order to better protect humanity. Once proper containment procedures are developed, we tend not to worry about them past that. Sure, sometimes we study them further, but most of that studying is to make better containment procedures and nothing else past that.
Earlier today I was fooling around with one of the puzzles that SCP-XXXX made of the metal balls when I realized the similarity. Solving the puzzles felt much like developing containment procedures. At the beginning, mostly guesswork as you attempt to narrow down possibilities of how it works, then once you've eliminated several possibilities, finding out the one path that actually works. And this realization got me wondering.
