Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX may safely be stored inside any container large enough to held it where every side contains at minimum the equivalent atomic mass of 28 millimeters of lead. It is currently held at site 15, contained within a lead reinforced shipping container with a 100 millimeter thick SiO2 glass window inset in one of the sides.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a solid black regular polyhedron shape meassuring approximately 1.5 meters in diameter containing a vast amount of energy. While SCP-XXXX has been observed to take the form of all the five known regular polyhedrons, in 68.2% of it's documented observations it has appeared as an icosahedron.
Unless stored within an appropriate container SCP-XXXX exerts strong anti-memetic properties, making any living being within approximately 20 meters virtually incapable of noticing it's precence. Any electronic equipment brought within the anti-memetic area suffers damage congruent to that of a strong magnetic field. Contrary to this SCP-XXXX does not appear to actually be magnetic, and all attempts at safeguarding electronic equipment from the damaging effects have ultimately failed. See addendum 1
Initially recovered from a field in Kansas, USA near [REDACTED] where SCP-XXXX has since been moved to permanent storage within site 15. It was discovered after multiple reports of farming equipment spontaneously malfunctioning, and sightings of a strange object that could only been seen from a distance.
Initial investigations revealed SCP-XXXX's anti-memetic properties, causing anyone within 20 meters to subconciously ignore it's existence unless they had it spesifically pointed out to them. Knowing that the object existed however would let those close to it notice it for a period of up to 3 minutes before once again seeming to forget it's existence.
Field testing concluded SCP-XXXX to be otherwise harmless, and that a sufficient mass of surrounding material would cancel it's anti-memetic properties. Additional lab testing revealed it's shapeshifting abilities. See addendum 2
Addendum1: Attempts at safeguarding electronic equipment against SCP-XXXX's damaging effects and their results.
- Test 1: Remote camera, no countermeassures.
Result: At a distance of 20 meters light visual distortion was observed. at a distance of 16 meters visual distortion destroys most recorded frames. at a distance of 14 meters no visual information is present in recording. at a distance of 11 meters camera shuts down. Later inspection reveals several burned microchips.
- Test 2: Wired camera.
Result: No safeguarding effect. Computer monitoring the camera's feed suffered burned components. Charting the signs of damage, SCP-XXXX's effect will spread through wiring, but will not pass through an electric transformer.
- Test 3: Remote camera with grounding wire.
Result: No safeguarding effect.
- Test 4: Remote camera contained in faraday cage.
Result: At a distance of 15 meters light visual distortion was observed. At a distance of 12 meters visual distortion destroys on average 94.5% of video frames. At a distance of 10 meters all visual information is lost due to distortion. At a distance of 6 meters camera shuts down. Inspection reveals burned microchips.
Addendum 2:
extensive lab testing revealed the exact mass required to contain SCP-XXXX's effects at 28 millimeters of lead, or an equvalent atomic mass. Once it's anti-memetic properties were counteracted it's shapeshifting abilities were noticed and studied.
Every 10 to 20 minutes SCP-XXXX will spontaneously change it's shape. Always maintaining the same volume, and always taking the form of a regular polyhedron. Each change was meassured to take place within the space of 27 microseconds. It is possible for SCP-XXXX to undergo a shape change and end up in the same shape it previously had.
High speed infrared imaging during shape changes revealed the object's center contains an immense amount of energy, radiating in the infrared specturm roughly equivalent to 5 000 degrees Kelvin.
Despite the vast amount of energy contained within it, SCP-XXXX has been deemed safe as it's behaviour has proven predictable. Further research is encourraged.1
