SCP-3278 (The Car That Replaces Memories) By Samuel Morrison

Item #: SCP-3278

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-3278 is to be stored in an 8 by 8 meter room, and every door of the vehicle should be locked until testing is resumed. Unless testing is being conducted, no one should sit in the driver's seat of SCP-3278 for any more than 5 minutes at a time due to it's mind altering effects.

Description:
SCP-3278 is a 1958 Chevorlet Biscayne, a 2/4 door sedan made by Chevorlet. The outside of SCP-3278 is in notably bad condition, mostly due to the poor conditions it was left in for an undiscernable amount of time. However, the inside of SCP-3278 is in perfect condition.

SCP-3278 was recovered as the result of a court case that occured in the rural town of [REDACTED] in the state of [REDACTED]. The court case had to do with ownership of SCP-3278 as multiple plaintiffs claimed that they owned the car, and would not back down until it was in their possession. All plaintiffs stated that they had owned SCP-3278 for many years, and have had a long history with SCP-3278, even if their ages contradicted the amount of years that they had supposedly owned SCP-3278. They also recounted the exact same memories that involved SCP-3278, down to every last detail. After this, the court case rapidly deteriorated into a screaming match that eventually led to several members of the jury being disemboweled by the plaintiffs before they were neutralized. Foundation members embeded in the jury administered class A amnesiacs to everyone who was in the court room and reported the event to the director of Site-77. The Foundation aquired SCP-3278 shortly thereafter, on ██/██/██.

SCP-3278 does not seem to exhibit any anomalous properties at first glance, with them only appearing once someone sits in the driver's seat. None of the other seats in SCP-3278 cause the effects associated with sitting in the driver's seat. Upon sitting down, who ever is sitting in the driver's seat will experience a series of anomalous effects that will eventually lead to the total replacement of the subject's memories.

Within a minute of sitting down in the driver's seat, the subject will begin to express that SCP-3278 reminds them of something from their past, or that they have had past experience with the vehicle, even if the subject has had no experience with a vehicle of this type in their past. At this point in the process, none of the effects are permanent, and can be reversed by getting out of the driver's seat.

After around five minutes, the subject will begin to recall a specific memory relating to SCP-3278. These usually revolve around some kind of family road trip or another kind of event that involves driving long distances in SCP-3278-1. The memories are always from the driver's point of view, with the subject being the driver in every recorded test so far.

During a period of time lasting around ten to twenty minutes, the subject will continue to recall memories relating to SCP-3278-1 with increasing clarity and vividness, and will begin to believe that they are man named John [REDACTED], regardless of the subjects gender. At this point, the subject will not respond to their original name or identification number. If told that they are not John [REDACTED], the subject will immediately deny the claim. If they are asked about specific memories from before they believed that they were John [REDACTED], they will respond with, "What are you talking about?" or, "I don't remember that.". Responses vary from subject to subject.

After the 20 minute mark, the subject has had all their memories completely erased, and are now replaced with those of John [REDACTED]. Any attempt to discuss anything that occured prior to the subject sitting in the car's front seat has been met with failure. As well as being unresponsive to anything relating to events before the anomalous effects of SCP-3278 affected them, the subject will begin to rapidly develop an obsession with SCP-3278 and their ownership of it. At this point, the subject is now refered to as SCP-3278-2. If something other than SCP-3278-2 attempts to claim ownership of SCP-3278, SCP-3278-2 will become violent and attempt to eliminate whoever claimed ownership, usually leading to the death of those targeted. SCP-3278-2 Does not gain any extra physical strength from SCP-3278's anomalous effects, which means it is vulnerable to small arms fire and blunt force, and can be neutralized via brute force.

Addendum 1-1:
Several interviews have been conducted with instances of SCP-3278-2, with varying amounts of success. Some of these interviews have been left out, due to them not producing useful or relevant information.
