Item #: SCP-4XXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Primary containment of SCP-4XXX is to be maintained via Foundation bot Upsilon-132 (“LABRYNTHIAN”), a simple program designed to automatically detect keywords associated with SCP-4XXX in university class catalogues and effectively neutralize the listing. LABRYNTHIAN drastically limits exposure (number of incidents reduced by 97% since implementation) to SCP-4XXX listings by inserting intentionally confusing and poorly-designed intermediary steps between SCP-4XXX listings and successful registration. Students seeking to enroll in SCP-4XXX-1 will face ██ steps designed to frustrate and deter them from successfully joining the class. In addition to LABRYNTHIAN, Foundation assets embedded in academic institutions will monitor registration information and potential references to SCP-4XXX among students. In the case of a containment breach, MTF-Rho-1 (“The Professors”) will be dispatched to detain all instances of SCP-4XXX-A and transport them to the nearest Foundation site for questioning. The use of Class-A amnestics is authorized for use upon the population of an affected college or university.

Description: SCP-4XXX is an anomalous college-level class, usually identified as a variation upon “PHYS 4130: Introduction to the Inexplicable,” that periodically manifests in online course catalogues for colleges and universities in (to date) all 50 United States as well as 36 additional countries. Students who stumble upon SCP-4XXX (hereafter designated as SCP-4XXX-A) will, regardless of their major or preference for certain subjects, register for the class and recommend it to their friends. Instances of SCP-4XXX-A often cite the professor “teaching” the course, identified in SCP-4XXX listings as [Cognitohazard Removed], as a compelling reason to enroll.

If SCP-4XXX-A instances are not detained and amnesticized before the affected semester, they will attend the course and receive official credit upon completion. At weekly intervals SCP-4XXX-A instances will enter a random building and classroom on their campus. When affected subjects pass through the threshold of an otherwise normal classroom, they will de-manifest, reappearing through the same door after one hour and fifteen minutes have elapsed. Attempts to seal or remove the affected doors have proved ineffective, as have efforts to accompany SCP-4XXX instances to the class. SCP-4XXX-A instances interviewed after class report a curriculum consistent across every institution since the first recorded instance in 20██. The class reportedly emphasizes "real world training designed to prepare a new generation of 21st century graduates for a career in the arcane." An email distributed by one SCP-4XXX-A instance during Incident-UVA22 is included for reference.

If a class of SCP-4XXX-A instances is allowed to complete the course, they will receive three credits and a letter grade on their transcript. Affected subjects typically drop out of school soon after and actively evade Foundation surveillance and capture. Subjects are believed to seek out various GOI’s and/or disappear for years, only to emerge later in connection with a different SCP. It is currently unknown what percentage of individuals of interest to the Foundation or even of Foundation Personnel are former SCP-4XXX-A instances as they are impossible to distinguish from non-anomalous people. Roughly █% of captured Persons of Interest admit to attending SCP-4XXX under duress. In light of the risk presented by “graduates” of SCP-4XXX, the prevention and capture/amnesticizing of SCP-4XXX-A instances is a high priority.
