Item #: SCP-4031
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4031 is to be kept in a small cuboid metal safe cushioned on the inside, to prevent accidental shattering of the entity due to a mishandling of the safe. The safe itself is kept on a table of unremarkable quality, which is stationed in the exact centre of a 6m x 8m x 3m room. It was moved from the previous containment room with dimensions 3m x 3m x 3m due to the aftermath of Test #2.
Description: SCP-4031 is a translucent clear soda glass bottle of no unusual shape or quality, barring the fact it is completely bare of any plastic wrappings, embedded data such as expiry dates, and all other similar markings and sources of information. The object was originally found by accident, after a man dropped and shattered his drink in the middle of the day on a busy street, turned around a few times, and ran screaming. He called 911, who rejected him as a prank call. A month later, he was found dead in his apartment due to loss of [DATA EXPUNGED] by unknown means. The bottle, now in perfect shape albeit the loss of its plastic wrapping, was found in place of his [DATA EXPUNGED]. The Foundation was promptly called.
The 8-digit code to the safe is only accessible to level 3 personnel or higher, and to all class-D personnel having undergone testing. As none have ever survived, there is little fear of a breach. It is important to note D-2442 from Test #5 is still alive, but due to missing his [DATA EXPUNGED] is not expected to live for longer than 2 weeks. Level 3 personnel and above may carry out any tests on SCP-4031. No one is allowed inside the room except class-D personnel during testing. Following the aftermath of Test #3, no more armed personnel are allowed entry into the room during testing under any cricumstances.
This bottle can be used as any ordinary bottle for storing liquids, drinking out of and all ordinary matters of course for a bottle, with no unnatural side-effects of any degree (insert footnote to Test #1).
The anomalous quality relates to the breaking of the bottle. When broken, the crash is heard as far behind the perpetrator (hereafter referred to as the 'victim') as the bottle is broken in front, notwithstanding any physical obstructions including walls and insulating materials. Usually, this is cause for the victim to turn around in surprise, and back soon after, revealing SCP-4031-1. It is sentient. After this, the victim will live a normal life with the exception of the ability to view and be fatally protected by SCP-4031-1. After the victim dies, the bottle is somehow found in solid shape, usually near where it was broken. Attempts to touch the glass are forbidden under any circumstance except for testing under level 4 personnel and above, after the events of Test #4.
This creature is not visible to anyone other than the breaker of the glass. They are now under the limited protection of the unknown entity. When approached by a subject who hasn't yet broken the glass, it moves away, to the point it may hang upside-down from the ceiling by unknown methods in order to avoid physical contact. If anyone is to further break the glass, the being is now visible to them as well. The victim or victims may touch it without consequence-rather, it seems to love being stroked. Will purr or click louder when so. SCP-4131-1 is undetectable by modern, or any means at all. For all anyone can tell, it does not exist. It's weight is only felt by its eventual victims, or those who choose to obstruct the creature. Refer to addendum-A for further details with regards to nature of entity.
SCP-4031-1 is classified to act into four (4) phases, as follows.
Devotion phase: The entity is stated to uphold a generally peaceful, almost loving nature. It reacts obligingly when touched positively or neutrally; it will usually come when called or gestured over, rub around the legs and body of the victim when being stroked and move aside when pushed in order for the victim to move. However, SCP-4031-1 glares at them if they act negatively or angrily towards it. It will push back if pushed or shoved harshly, as learnt from Test #3, and will attack back if attacked-using claws, it's body weight and teeth to intimidate the victim, though it will not hold a grudge and will not severely damage them. It will never attack anyone apart from the victims, no matter what they attempt, unless in it's completion phase.
This entity will assist the victim occasionally in everyday tasks, described to sometimes set their bed, as well as cook an egg and cheese sandwich-twice-when the test subject was hungry during test #3. How it manages to move, through locked doors, and disappear or reappear without directly becoming invisible in line of sight is unknown. Speculated to have the power of invisibility, though never used while its presence is directly noted through sight, and the ability to move through matter at will, though has never been sighted doing so. SCP-4031-1 has been narrated to always enter and exit with complete silence, though when its presence is noted its footsteps can be heard. Most other motions are completely silent unless within roughly a third (0.33) metres from the moving segment.
Protection Phase: Anytime the victim is to be harmed, SCP-4031-1 will appear standing nearby and usually bare teeth, regardless of current actions. If the harm is minor, such as a papercut or walking into a wall, the creature stares down the source for a few seconds, before performing its healing anomaly: the creature moves towards the victim at a usual, slow pace and rests his right hand on usually their left shoulder, rapidly healing their wounds and removing pain. It can heal even mental illnesses and pains including stress, depression and brain disorders. For sources like an attacker or a falling statue, the creature is explained to move at almost unnoticeably swift speeds, destroying or killing the instance and then resuming normal action, after ensuring the victim is untouched. It has to date never failed to save the victim, even from an anti-armour gun. Refer to the journal entry of one of SCP-4031-1's longest victims, for level 4 personnel and above only.
Feasting Phase: However, after the event occurs, the creature will eventually, at a later time proportional to the damage healed or prevented, reappear. It then cuts off a portion of the victim and consume it on the spot, after healing closed the wound it caused. As an example, a papercut will cause SCP-4031-1 to stare at the paper, before healing the victim. It will resume normal activity for itself, and after approximately 7 minutes and 41 seconds usually will devour the last joint of their pinky finger. It is healed over, so there is no further threat, even from infection when sent through a medical check. If there is a hammer thrown at their head, the creature grabs the hammer and may snap it back at the source, possibly causing severe [DATA EXPUNGED] due to the force of the throw, before resuming normal activity. No healing is involved as the victim was unharmed. After 20 days and 14 hours, the victim may be held upside-down from the leg, [DATA EXPUNGED]. The loss of the leg will not kill due to lack of infections, with the skin healed over. During the entire process, the being is unnoticed by onlookers and the victim appears to be affected by an invisible force.
Completion Phase: This is the final phase, after which SCP-4301-1 cannot be seen or heard until the bottle is broken again. As time passes, the victim eventually dies due to being constantly eaten up by it, generally a loss of a single or multiple vital organs, or if the creature desires for reasons yet not understood, it may enter the completion phase and place both hands on the left shoulder (with a single exception) following with it [DATA EXPUNGED], which consistently almost immediately kills due to the loss of too many [DATA EXPUNGED], and replacing the [DATA EXPUNGED] with the bottle, somehow. Usually the former. During this phase, anyone attempting to interact with SCP-4031-1 will be very painfully dismembered, and usually have select organs [DATA EXPUNGED] or eaten, usually while they are still alive. They are then fully dismembered in a very torturous method, usually involving [DATA EXPUNGED] and removal of [DATA EXPUNGED] by [DATA EXPUNGED].
Addendum-A: It is reported to have a nearly a dark charcoal in overall complexion, nostrils without a nose and no mouth. The results of Test #1 confirmed by touch the lack of a mouth, though rarely the creature will be seen grinning wide, especially during it's protecting and feasting phases. Inside is revealed a row of sharp teeth, differing from those of felines and ranging from less than half a centimetre near either end of the grin to several centimetres in length near the symmetric centre. They are all described as a stake, without any variants other than size. Thus it has no molars, which in turn affect it's eating habits as mentioned. It is known to have a tongue, based on the incidents regarding Test #2, of seemingly varying length. Currently measured to a maximum of 220 centimetres. All limbs have black, glistening claws, roughly 14cm in length. Upon further inspection, the hands and body are relatively soft to touch, with 2cm long silky fur in places as that of a generic cat. It usually continuously emits a repetitive clicking or purring sound only heard by the victim.
Tl;dr: There is a glass bottle. If you break it, you can now see SCP-4301-1. No one else can. It's loving in nature, and every time you are going to get hurt it will either heal you fully almost immediately or avert the danger completely. However, each time it does this, it will consume a part of your body, until you die or it decides that you've suffered enough and kills you in an extremely violent way. The bottle is now fixed.
