Item #: SCP-4817
Object Class: Pending Classification
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4817 is to be surrounded by a wall 100 meters away from the cave entrance. All civilians are to redirected under the pretense that Site-██ is a weapons testing facility. Civilians who continue to attempt entry are to be intercepted, amnesticized and released as per BSP (Blind Spot Protocol).
Description: SCP-4817 is the area within the ██████ Cave, █████████. The cave itself has an interior area of approximately 20km2 and a height of 1km. Without anomalous properties, the interior environment is extremely similar to the ███████ temperate rainforests.
SCP-4817 is the environment within the ██████ cave, which is entirely made of water. This also includes the ground, which is solid semi-solid. It is noted that entities within SCP-4817 can emerge from the ground whenever required, which poses a significant risk to manned expedition crews. The risk is compounded further as the "ground" water is extremely murky. Trees within SCP-4817, while being made from water, appear to be distinct from the ground and other "trees". All plant-life are capable of growth, albeit extremely stunted, by slowly pulling up water from beneath the surface. The tallest tree has grown to be approximately 300 meters.
SCP-4817 functions almost exactly as a standard underwater environment. Fish appear to be adapted for faster swim speeds and almost universally have aerodynamic forms. Main hunting behaviors involve launching from "trees" or the various spheres of water that float with no known cause. Light is generated by bioluminescent organisms known as S.002, which also act as the ecosystem's producers.
SCP-4817 appears to be able to generate a limitless amount of water, originating from a yet unspecified source point. No water generated by SCP-4817 can leave the cave which contains SCP-4817.
For in-depth descriptions and ecological purposes, please view the document labeled "SCP-4817 Organisms and Speculated Ecological Purposes" by Doctor Richard Tybalt.
ADDENDUM 4817.1:
Exploration Log: 4817-L1 (31/7/2014)
Preface: To facilitate exploration of SCP-4817, Mobile Task Force Xi-1 "Aquanauts" was created. MTF Xi-1 includes the following staff:
Head Researcher (MTFC) Richard Tybalt, specializing in marine biology (Camera Alpha)
Doctor Ilana Murphy, cryptozoologist/chemist (Camera Beta)
Field Agent Allan Moss, specializes in anomalous areas (Camera Gamma)
Doctor Steve Santos, engineer (Camera Delta)Head Researcher Richard Tybalt and Field Agent Allan Moss were both at [DATA EXPUNGED]. As such, they are both considered veterans. They were the only members of Mobile Task Force Xi-1 "Aquanauts" who were equipped with standard issue sidearms and medical equipment.
All members of Mobile Task Force Xi-1 "Aquanauts" were trained for underwater environment exploration in case of emergencies. Mobile Task Force Xi-1 had enough food and water for 3 days worth of exploration, and equipment required for setting up a temporary camp was provided. All members were also provided emergency oxygen tanks and rebreathers in case of long-term exploration of underwater environment or in the instance that a member is trapped underwater.
Procedure: The following footage was recorded during Log 4817-L1:
<LOG BEGINS>(Elevator slowly descends into SCP-4817, Tybalt begins speaking)
Tybalt: Okay, so I take it that everyone is equipped properly. Sorry if I sound a bit… Overbearing or condescending however I do not want to mess this up.
Moss: Just follow my lead and you guys will presumably be fine. Seriously though, watch out for those S.001 critters, they can move at 30ks in an instant. Also those jaws are terrifying, as in I still get-
Murphy: Shut up Allan. We have no clue what the fish down here react to. I personally have a theory that… holy shit the elevator is loud!
(Elevator screeches to halt upon hitting the ground)
Tybalt: Let us go forward unto the abyss.
(Camera Alpha whips back towards elevator, before Tybalt waves to elevator operations staff. Elevator proceeds to ascend. Tybalt nods to each member of Mobile Task Force Xi-1 before Camera Alpha turns to face forwards into SCP-4817.)
(After walking for approximately 40 seconds in silence, Santos speaks)
Santos: You know lads, this place is amazing. I mean, we are walking on fucking water! Although, I gotta admit it is way too dark in here. Where the hell is the light?
(All cameras pan upwards, seemingly as an attempt to look for any signs of light emission)
Moss: Just continue using your torch and all will be well. Unless the wildlife here can do EMP blasts. Wouldn't be the first time.
Tybalt: Hmmm. Well Santos has a point, while I would not deny the possibility that this is a lightless ecosystem, I have re-watched Walleye footage and S.001 organisms have eyes. And judging by various superficial traits I would say they have highly developed eyesight too.
Moss: You know how I can tell you guys haven't seen an anomalous environment before?
Tybalt, Murphy and Santos: How?
Moss: Because you assume that light comes from the sky. Or the roof. Or just generally from the z axis. Because you keep looking skyward for light, and not forward. The light's in the trees.
(All cameras face forwards again, revealing a jungle-like landscape. The entire jungle is illuminated by what appears to be several bioluminescent fish. Schools of smaller fish leap between the various trees, while floating spheres of water appear approximately 10 meters above the ground.)
Tybalt: Well I'll be… That is simply stunning. You know, can you believe we have the sheer privilege of being able to see something like this. Forgetting cynicism, and the fact that our job has more casualties than any other on the planet, you begin to realize just how amazing and enriched our lives are.
Moss: You're not strictly wrong, we have an interesting perspective of life that others aren't privy to, however the first mistake that often screws over rookie Agents is getting caught up in either wonder, shock, fear or any combination of the three.
(Mobile Task Force Xi-1 continue forward until they are approximately 10 meters into the jungle, Murphy reaches in to collect samples of suspended algae)
Murphy: Interesting.
Santos: Algae? You know that an engineer's diet at Site-██ is primarily based on algae right? It is the most disgusting thing on this Earth. Whenever this footage is reviewed, I demand better food. I don't give a fuck if it "saves expen-
Tybalt: Shut it Santos. We all have shitty food, deal with it, Murphy you may continue.
Murphy: Ahem. As I was saying, this is algae right? It certainly looks and acts like it. So my question is, how does it photosynthesize?
Tybalt: While my expertise lies in marine wildlife, I presume that the algae can subsist off of the light produced by the… S.002 organisms.
(Silence continues as Mobile Task Force Xi-1 moves through the forest for 3 hours. Breaks are taken during this time, before Xi-1 arrive at a tree that is host to a new organism.)
Tybalt: Hey, come over here! I may have found a new creature.
Moss: It appears to be stationary, I cannot guarantee safety however there is something I want to test out.
Tybalt: Continue.
Moss: So uh… You know how the ground is also water right? Well I was just wondering, what if the trees and ground are only solid to sapient organisms. Because there was this one SCP, SCP-███ if I recall, that was completely aqueous in the presence of sapient lifeforms, and gaseous without that presence. So…
Tybalt: Considering that the organism appears to not be capable of motion currently, go ahead. Santos, do we have additional safety gear?
(Santos rummages through the various equipment bags carried, finding nothing)
Santos: No, though I would be surprised if that thing could potentially melt through our current gear.
Tybalt: Okay, so what's your plan Allan?
Moss: As an Agent this pains me, but I'm going to stick my hand in the tree. I have confidence in the idea that this water is just water. Also that fish down there hasn't moved yet. So it should be fine? I mean, only a human can test this one.
Murphy: Why not get a D-Class to shove their hand in the tree?
Moss: Because of obvious reasons, and that it's better to get this over and done with now rather than in a few days. Field Agents have done worse things in the past.
(Moss proceeds to stick his hand into the tree, first with hesitation then Moss proceeds to wave hand within the tree. Organism later designated S.003 rapidly swims towards hand)
Tybalt: (Shouting) GET YOUR HAND OUT OF THE FUCKING TREE ALLAN!
(Moss proceeds to pull his hand out of the tree, Tybalt dives in front of S.003 organism. Footage thereafter is captured on Camera Delta, as Camera Alpha is destroyed after S.003 assault. Camera Delta footage shows mouth growths of S.003 organism rapidly growing outwards before biting down, causing carbonization of Tybalt's lower left arm, and the subsequent explosion disintegrates the carbonized arm.)
(Santos and Murphy, who were collecting samples at the time, rush over to Moss and Tybalt, Santos gasps and begins emitting expletives upon looking at Tybalt's arm. Footage becomes shaky as all Mobile Task Force Xi-1 members run towards extraction elevator.)
Moss: Site-██, repeat Site-██, this is Mobile Task Force Xi-1 "Aquanauts", we request immediate extraction. (Chatter over radio) Look, Rich- Tybalt is currently injured (radio chatter), no his left arm has disintegrated. Currently suspected to be nonfatal. (Radio chatter) No no, it was caused by wildlife. (Radio chatter) SCP-4817 itself is safe yes. (Radio chatter) Murphy, are the samples secure?
Murphy: Yup. Do we have permission to extract yet?
Moss: No and yes, the samples are safe. (Radio chatter) Great. Okay everyone, the elevator is lowering now.
<Log Ends>
Results: Head Researcher Richard Tybalt fortunately made a quick recovery, mainly due to the remaining arm stump not only being completely cauterized but also made of hardened carbon. While Dr. Tybalt was recovering, the remaining squad members were debriefed and Mobile Task Force Xi-1 has been disbanded permanently disbanded until further notice.
Exploration Log 4817-L2 (3/1/2017)
Preface: After Exploration Log 4817-L1, no further expeditions into SCP-4817 have occurred. However, upon approval of the Site-██ administrator, another expedition was approved. Mobile Task Force Xi-1 "Aquanauts" was re-commissioned specifically for this expedition. All members from the previous Mobile Task Force Xi-1 were added, including Head Researcher Richard Tybalt, who has made a full recovery after Log 4817-L1. The Mobile Task Force was given the same equipment as before, however they were also provided with simple graphene chainmail in case of hostile fauna attacks. Camera designations will remain the same to be consistent with previous logs.
<LOG BEGINS>
(Elevator begins descent into SCP-4817)
Tybalt: Once more unto the breach.
(Elevator screeches to a halt)
(Mobile Task Force Xi-1 continue forward until 1 kilometer into the SCP-4817 jungle in complete silence, before Murphy speaks)
Murphy: Honestly, despite the… tragic incident of the last expedition, this place still hasn't lost any of its beauty (Camera Beta pans to the right, moving past Santos and resting upon the image of the jungle)**
Tybalt: No it has not.
(Silence continues as Mobile Task Force Xi-1 move through the jungle, only stopping as either Murphy or Tybalt take wildlife samples. This continues until Camera Gamma picks up reflected light from Xi-1 flashlights)
Moss: Guys, I think I saw a metal reflection. Over there (Moss gestures to the left, the light of his flashlight reflecting off of an unknown metal object.)
Santos: Ayy, finally something other than fish and water. (Santos proceeds to run ahead of the other members of Mobile Task Force Xi-1. Camera Delta footage shows an old structure made of what appears to be a mix of traditional mud bricks, iron and wood.) Damn this thing is old, and surprisingly the structure is entirely intact.
Murphy: Do you reckon it was made by humans?
Santos: Well you see, as a Cryptozoologist that should be your specialty. Besides, I am more of a mechanical engineer. I don't do structural engineering. And uh, why would I? Who would have expected this structure?
Moss: It isn't… uncommon for odd structures in anomalous environments.
Tybalt: Okay, so Santos and Murphy, I expect you to do a full survey of the structure and who could have made it. Allan, you and I will check out the interior.
Santos: Uhh, Tybalt, I have a question.
Tybalt: Yes?
Santos: How come you refer to Moss as Allan? I get that's his first name but… why him?
Tybalt: (Tybalt's face slackens, eyes stare into the distance) I will explain that later. Right now we have a job, which is to explore what this structure is.
(The following footage will be split between Cameras Alpha/Gamma and Beta/Delta)
(Camera Alpha zooms in on markings that are carved deeply into the west wall. Markings depict various illustrations of known SCP-4817 lifeforms and unknown ones. Of particular note is a illustration of a creature resembling a ███, a █████ and a █████ combined. The depiction also shows the unknown creature bisected down the center, with an approximately 1cm long black space between the two halves)
Moss: Hey Richard, doesn't this remind you of SCP-████ back when it [REDACTED]. Yeah, actually that looks like its first form. God damn that bat-bodied thing (Moss visibly shivers).
Tybalt: Yeah, that thing was fucking insane. A creature that can cause a rent in time itself should've been killed ages ago. I wonder how we made it out of there perfectly intact, but when we go through a safe SCP I lose my arm (Camera Alpha pans down to Tybalt holding up his carbonized arm).
Moss: Anyway, look at this.
(Camera Gamma zooms in onto more depictions of further unknown entities. One of the more disturbing illustrations involves a creature that is currently non-analogous to anything currently discovered1. What is described however, by several horizontal markings, is that the creature is found approximately 4 km underneath the surface of SCP-4817. It also, upon further inspection, appears to be capable of accelerating objects to faster than light speeds. Entity later referred to as S.009.)
Tybalt: Well that settles it, we are camping here I suppose. We have days worth of rations still, and apparently the water here is not only fresh but also good for you. The amount of nutrients I found from all of the deceased fish are incredible. Also, I will need to study these carvings more.
(Footage switches to Camera Delta/Beta. Murphy and Santos have set up portable scaffolding and floodlights so that all areas of the building are accessible.)
Santos: Okay, so after looking all over this thing, I have come to a remarkable conclusion.
Murphy: That was sarcastic wasn't it?
Santos: Surprisingly no. The conclusion is that the method of construction is nonsensical. If we believe that this thing is… let's say around 35,000 years old, then the materials make no sense. I am going to assume this is a native building, and uh… well the indigenous inhabitants of █████████ never used mud brick. Or whatever the fuck this metal is.
Murphy: Yeah. About the metal. Where did it come from? This whole place is water. So unless there is a whole settlement nearby, I doubt a quarry would be set up so far from any of the walls. And that's not even taking into consideration that scans showed no quarries.
Santos: Ilana. I am going to be serious here. The ground yeah, made of water right? So… what if… by chance… something could be waiting underneath the surface. I mean that's possible right?
Murphy: (Murphy is silent for approximately 5 seconds. Face appears to display a disturbed expression) That's… possible. Let's get back to work.
(Santos and Murphy continue analysis of structure. Tybalt emerges from the structure and asks that Santos sets up a basic exploration camp. Following footage comes from Camera Beta. As Santos and Murphy descend, ripples appear to the far left of Camera Beta's vision.)
Murphy: Hey guys, you notice those ripples over there?
Santos: I fucking told you something was there. Jesus Christ I wonder if it's a fucking death-fish from the netherworld or something. (Silence for 3 seconds. Santos begins yelling) HOLY SHIT IT'S RISING (Santos emits expletives for 5 seconds in English, Spanish and German).
(Creature later designated S.005 rises from the ground of SCP-4817. Only what appears to be the central body rises from the ground. Further footage analysis shows that S.005 organism has 3 legs, presumably long enough to touch the bottom of SCP-4817. Body of S.005 has a thick exoskeleton, and approximately 7 eyes, three on each side of the head and one on the forehead. Head appears to be part of the same structure as body, no neck identified. No mouth identified. Two antennae emerge from head, presumed to be sensory organs combined with consumptive organ, possibly to consume S.000 organisms.)
Tybalt: Well I'll be damned, that thing is amazing. I mean, just look at it, how deep do you reckon its legs go?
Santos: Well that proves my theory. Let's back to work lads.
Moss: All I can think about is what if that thing wasn't, as that thing apparently is, non-hostile. Can we not focus on that facet of-
Tybalt: I don't think anyone wants to focus on the fact that this thing came from nowhere. As I said previously, let's set up camp.
(Footage sped up as Mobile Task Force Xi-1 sets up a temporary camp. Footage resumes normal speed, the following footage taken from Camera Alpha. Tybalt enters the structure again, focusing on the various illustrations on the walls. Camera stops on a depiction of a three-legged creature with large antennae)
Tybalt: (Talking to self) Hmm. Depiction matches almost exactly with the giant earlier. If this is even accurate in the slightest… this is not good. Huh. The legs do indeed appear to reach the bottom. For future Researchers looking at this footage, note how the legs become thicker the lower they go. Must be some sort of protective measure. I better go back, this does not bode well.
(Tybalt returns to camp, to find everyone awake)
Tybalt: Was my lack of overall presence enough to make you tremble in fear?
Murphy: Why the hell do you have to make everything overdramatic? No we just wondered where you went off to, and Santos wanted to ask you something.
Tybalt: Well, I remembered something I saw in the building, and wanted to check it out. So Santos, what did you want to ask me?
Santos: Unless you are a lying bastard, I believe you owe us the story of how you and Moss got so close.
Tybalt: Of course. Well, as you might have read, Allan and I were present during a containment breach. Specifically of Site-██ when SCP-████ broke out.
Santos: Believe or not that was redacted.
Moss: Of course it was. Honestly should've expected it. Anyway, so you all know what SCP-████ is right?
Murphy: Of course we do, shut up Santos, it was the thing that captivated my interest after SCP-████. It is the creature that eats time right?
Moss: In a manner of speaking, yes it does. Now this breach happened almost directly after it changed form. The scip basically melted through its cell. I was guarding the cell at the time, had to fill in while the other guards were on break. At first water began dripping from the door, and then the thing flew off its hinges.
Tybalt: At the time I was monitoring the scip however the amount of… oddities that occurred at the time meant no electronics worked. Had to wait for the power came back on before I could leave, although I was glad I didn't.
Moss: Anyway, so the thing breaks down the door, water spraying everywhere. One guy got his hand lightly hit and the whole thing crumpled. Now the thing about SCP-████ is that it can see the future. So imagine firing bullets at a thing that knows where the bullets will land.
Santos: No need to continue with the setup, we get it. But uh… I get that Tybalt lived because he cowered in what amounts to a fucking bunker, how did you make it?
Moss: Because I was young at the time. Scip ignored me for long enough that I jumped into its containment chamber. Thing wouldn't go back into its cell even if the door was broken.
Tybalt: Anyway, all of you need to get rest. Unfortunately, there is no day-night cycle, so you will probably find it difficult to sleep. Night all.
(Footage cuts for 7 hours, then resumes upon Mobile Task Force Xi-1 waking up and performing various ablutions)
Tybalt: Okay, everyone alive and well?
(Various affirmative responses.)
Tybalt: Good. Because we are going to continue analysis until you can recite the entire history of this thing. And one last thing, watch your feet every now and then. There are most certainly things down there. None of them good.
(Approximately 40 minutes after analysis work begins, vibrations occur on an area of ground approximately 6 meters away from the structure.)
Murphy: (Yelling) Hey guys, there's vibrations over here. We have company!
Santos: Shit what do you see?
Murphy: Nothing, the water is too murky. Can't see jack shit down there.
Santos: Throw something down there, see if it causes a reaction.
(Murphy throws a spare piece of scaffolding down onto anomalous patch. Nothing of note occurs.)
Santos: So two options here, either nothing there is dangerous, which I doubt, or that thing detects heat or something. Which I am scared of. But hey, let's check it out anyway. Only like, a 60/40 chance of injury and/or death am I right?
Murphy: Suuuuuuure.
(Murphy approaches vibrating patch, vibrations begin rapidly moving towards Murphy)
Murphy: (rapid vocalization of expletives)
Santos: (Yelling) Shit Murphy get your ass up here!
(Organism identified as S.004 leaps out of the ground, hooking Murphy's left arm in one of the numerous bone growths on its head. The S.004 organism's features could not be made out, however the S.004 specimen is approximately 3 meters with several bone growths on its head. Murphy is pulled under. Water becomes red)
Santos: (expletives are emitted for 1 minute.)
(Tybalt emerges from structure.)
Tybalt: What the hell is goi-
Santos: (Yelling) Get away from the ground, run as fast as you fucking can! Oh shit nonononononono-
(Tybalt begins moving towards S.004 before Santos speaks. Head Researcher Richard Tybalt confirmed deceased.)
Santos: Moss!
Moss: What the fuck happened out there?!
Santos: Uhhh… Tybalt and Murphy are dead. Fucking shark thing came out of the ground ate them. I fucking told Murphy to check it out, shitfuckshitfuck-
(Footage cuts)
<LOG ENDS>
Results: While gaining valuable data that gave more insight into the functionality of SCP-4817 (especially when taking into account [REDACTED]). The following is a status log for the members of Mobile Task Force Xi-1 "Aquanauts":
-Head Researcher Richard Tybalt: Deceased. Body found 3.2km away from structure.
-Doctor Ilana Murphy: Deceased. Body not found.
-Field Agent Allan Moss: Resumed service 2 months after incident. Psychological health within acceptable parameters.
-Doctor Steve Santos: Currently undergoing therapy. Will resume operation within 6 months.
Further Exploration Logs require either Level 4 credentials or permissions from the Site-██ Administrator.
ADDENDUM 4817.2
Exploration Log 4817-L3 (15/8/2017)
The drone Walleye was upgraded for the specific purpose of conducting exploration in high-pressure environments. Walleye was given a harpoon gun with 3 standard harpoons and 2 stun harpoons for emergency capture and/or defense. Walleye was also equipped with specimen sampling equipment, adapted for extreme environments. Walleye has an upgraded operation time of 72 hours and a signal range of 50 kilometers.
To gain access to the underground portion of SCP-4817, the device named "Aqua Tunneler" was used. Prior to Expedition 4817-3, it was discovered that entities that do not originate from SCP-4817 are incapable of entering the underground segment. To solve this issue, Doctor ██████ created the Aqua Tunneler. By utilizing rotating blades, the Aqua Tunneler creates localized whirlpools that are used by Walleye and other personnel to go "underground".
Footage is timestamped in minutes in the following format: [H.MM.SS]
<LOG BEGINS>
[0.00.01] Camera turns on as Walleye is lowered into SCP-4817 via a temporary crane system (Walleye is too heavy for current elevator system). Once Walleye had made the descent, the Aqua Tunneler begins rotation. A high pitched whirring noise is emitted by the device as the water is spun. After the whirlpool is created, Walleye moves towards the whirlpool and is subsequently dragged underwater.
[0.00.20] Walleye descends at a rate of 2m/s, footage is completely dark due to high levels of sediment and minor levels of marine snow. Walleye operators attempt to illuminate surroundings with in-built searchlight. The surrounding area remains too murky for desired visibility.
[0.00.26] After 52 meters, sediment levels decrease dramatically, enabling the camera to pick up various shadows of organisms that appear to be S.004 specimens.
[0.00.30] Walleye's camera is no longer obstructed by sediment, footage shows the various S.004 organisms attacking what appears to be a S.006 organism. S.006 appears to have injured several of the S.004 organisms using serrated forelimbs.
[0.01.00] Surface sediment can no longer be seen. Searchlight power increased. Depth at 120 meters.
[0.01.30] Organism classified as S.006 sighted, moving towards Walleye at approximately 37km/h. Harpoon gun is fired at S.006, forcing it to retreat. Further information on S.006 can be found in the document SCP-4817 Organisms and Speculated Ecological Purposes"
[0.02.00] Depth at 240 meters. No light from the surface visible.
[0.02.06] Camera picks up 3 large pillar-like objects moving towards Walleye. Upon further inspection, the three pillars are large mountain-like objects. Camera pans down, showing an extremely wide base that thins the further up the pillar. Pillars appear to lift entirely off the bottom of SCP-XXXX, floating upwards before settling on the bottom surface again. Entities are presumed to be at the base of the pillars.
[0.03.00] Depth at 360 meters.
[0.03.40] Organism identified as S.007 sighted. At first it is seen at a distance of 74 meters, before it completely disappears. S.007 suddenly appears 3 meters in front of Walleye. S.007 organism is noted to be slightly bioluminescent, especially in the eyes and various tendril-like growths on the face. S.007 specimen briefly circles Walleye, focusing on the harpoon gun, before disappearing.
[0.04.00] Depth at 480 meters
[0.04.13] Multiple (6) S.007 organisms manifest behind Walleye, emitting shrill sounds that cause minor hearing damage to Walleye operator. S.007 organisms surround Walleye, Walleye fires stun harpoon at the first S.007. S.007 organism disappears, the harpoon goes through the space where the specimen should have been. Other S.007 organisms begin to ram Walleye, crippling back left and front left jets.
[0.04.16] All S.007 organisms cease movement, approximately 13 organisms designated S.008 emerge from S.007 bodies. S.008 specimens almost immediately swim away. S.007 corpses have been dissected and all internal organs have been consumed.
[0.04.17] Due to jet damage, Walleye descent slowed to 1 meter per second. Walleye operator replaced because of hearing damage, mission given permission to continue.
[0.05.00] Depth at 557 meters.
[0.10.00] Depth at 1157 meters (1.175km). After S.007 and S.008 encounters, unusual lack of life signs has been noted.
[1.00.00] Depth at 4757 meters (4.757km).
[1.04.30] S.009 organism sighted along with multiple S.007 organisms. Walleye moves closer to get a better view of the interaction. S.007 specimens appear to be attacking S.009 organism by rapidly appearing and disappearing around the S.009 specimen before ramming it. S.009 specimen manages to bite one of the S.007 organism's head off, before a flash of light occurs, causing an underwater explosion which cripples the remaining S.007 organisms.
[1.09.17] Small organisms designated S.010 are seen swimming by Walleye. S.010 specimens have bioluminescent strips along their flanks. S.010 are arranged into distinct lines that give the broader school the appearance of shifting tendrils that have combined to form one larger organism. School estimated to have at least 1,000 individual S.010 organisms.
[1.09.20] A tendril of S.010 splits off and approaches Walleye. Walleye operator readies harpoon in case of hostilities. The head S.010 organism creates vocalizations described by operator as "friendly chirping", head S.010 specimen also changes bioluminescence color from red to orange, which then spreads to the rest of the S.010 tendril.
[1.09.24] Walleye continues descent, before experiencing a sudden jolt. Impact appears to originate from the top-back area of Walleye. While damage dealt to Walleye is minimal, bathometer reads depth at 20km below the surface. MBES waves sent at the beginning of the expedition haven't returned as of yet.
[2.00.00] Depth at 23km.
[2.30.19] An abnormal lack of lifeforms is once again reported. Unknown organism sighted, although only a vague outline. Walleye isn't close enough to make out any specific details. Organism however appears to be stationary.
[2.34.00] Unidentified organism sighted. Organism is too large to be entirely captured on Walleye's camera. While from a distance S.011 organism appears immobile, at close range it is moving at a rapid rate. S.011's hide appears to change material whenever unobserved. Due to the enormity of S.011 and the various space-time anomalies found in the vicinity of S.011, the Walleye operator fell into a catatonic state. S.011 classed as a memetic hazard.
[2.34.01] Footage cuts as the signal to Walleye stops.
Results: After Walleye was caught in one of the space-time anomalies generated by the S.011 organism, all signals and broadcasts were halted. Approximately 3 days later, the signal to Walleye was reestablished. The footage generated from the reconnection is recorded in the following exploration log.
Exploration Log 4817-L4 (18/8/2017)
Preface: Information concerning the incident that has led to log XXXX-L4 is recorded in the results of the previous log. Walleye's in-built clock registers that the date is ██/██/7832. The format will be the same as log 4817-L4, with timestamps recorded as [H.MM.SS].
<LOG BEGINS>
[0.00.01] Contact with Walleye officially commences. Bathometer reads at 358 yottameters beneath the surface. Diagnostic check confirms that bathometer is functional. Damage is limited to front and back left jets and slight damage to the rear section of Walleye's chassis. Walleye is not affected by water pressure for unknown reasons.
[0.00.04] Searchlights reveal that Walleye's current location is the bottom of SCP-4817. The seafloor is noted as being "surprisingly normal" by both the Walleye operator and present researchers. Specimens noted to be similar to E. sideroxylon and T. nucifera are sighted. Trees and plant life have multiple bioluminescent fish.
[0.00.05] Walleye operator given the order to continue exploration.
[0.34.03] Walleye's camera pans to an old shrine, the architecture appears to be of the Holy Roman Empire. Organism designated S.012 swims above the shrine. S.012 organism is presumed to be larger than S.011, Walleye operator manages to look away before the camera fully rests on S.012. Footage of S.012 shows that it's flesh does not change unlike S.011, and the skin appears to be made of a scaly material.
[0.34.05] Before the camera turns away from the S.012 organism opens what appears to be an oral cavity on its flank. This mouth takes up the entirety of Walleye's camera. The mouth has approximately 12 teeth on the top and bottom, with multiple layers of smaller teeth deeper in the mouth. A long droning sound emerges from the mouth, which slowly rises in pitch until it is recognized as the song "Moonlight Sonata".
[0.35.09] The mouth suddenly closes as the S.012 begins moving.
[0.35.12] Walleye is steered over to the shrine The interior of the shrine is decrepit, with multiple battle standards with iconography consistent with the 4th Crusade. A figure covered in rusted armour sits in front of the altar. The figure (SCP-4817-1) turns to face Walleye. The crusader speaks in Middle English, thus all conversation conducted at the time was using rough translation technology. The conversation is recorded in Observation Log 4817-O1.
Observation Log 4817-O1
Preface: The following log is a conversation between Foundation staff and SCP-4817-1. As SCP-4817-1 spoke Middle English, all recorded text has been translated for convenience. Original file can be found under the name Observation Log 4817-O1 Unedited. Foundation staff communicated via Morse code created by controlled use of the thrusters.
SCP-4817-1: Greetings drone, I welcome you to the last true church of God. I know what you may be thinking, but I assure you that I alone stand as the last true warrior of Christ.
Walleye: How did you enter SCP-4817?
SCP-4817-1: Ah I see, unable to speak the King's English. Very well, I too am versed in… how do you say, ah, Morse code yes? I do hope I got that correct. It has been many centuries since I last was talked to in the language. As to your question, well it began many years ago-
Walleye: During the 4th Crusade?
SCP-4817-1: Indeed. I was one of the few brothers who made it to the Holy Land, it pains me so that very few had joined me. It was during the journey to Jerusalem that my band of warriors and I came across knowledge that would drive me to this land. The knowledge was that of the location of the Leviathan. Yes, the Hellmouth itself.
Walleye: Would the Leviathan you refer to be the S.012 organism outside of the church?
SCP-4817-1: Nay, that is but one of the minor devils of this place. The Leviathan is deeper, a creature that is one half of infinity in length and whose mouth opens up to the pits of hell itself. Nay, the beasts you have seen are nothing compared to the Leviathan.
Walleye: May I inquire as to how you are aware of the Foundation's organism classification system? Also is this not the bottom of SCP-4817?
SCP-4817-1: Well, to answer your first question, you are not the first to come down here. Nor will you be the last. As for the second question, this is the surface of… SCP-4817 as much as the surface you came from, and the surface above that.
Walleye: So SCP-4817 expands? How far has it reached? How can it be contained?
SCP-4817-1: Do not worry, it takes 1000 years for the water to grow to the cave entrance. And it will take 4000 more before it reaches into the heavens. It cannot be contained, nor should it be, however the water will never grow outside of the boundaries of the cave entrance. Of course, down here, space and time becomes irrelevant. How do you think your drone has come so far down?
Walleye: Where are the other soldiers?
SCP-4817-1: (Sighs) Doing something that your people would never appreciate. They fight for God, indeed they fight to contain the Leviathan. I was… no, you need not know that. However it is my solemn duty to make sure that in a world where true belief has died, I alone must ensure that God is never forgotten. Even if my scriptures are waterlogged and barely legible.
Walley: Can you describe what SCP-4817 currently looks like? It will provide valuable data in helping to contain this anomaly.
SCP-4817-1: The eyes of God see all, and it is He that passes this knowledge to the faithful. Even if they are not truly faithful, there is no hiding the great pillar from the eyes of the pious. At this point there is little the masses haven't seen. You have failed in your task, everyone knows of that which you seek to contain. However, I shall provide you with a painting of the pillar. I have, after all, had millennium to learn how to paint. And to gather inks that work in this wretched place.
Walleye: (Parts of the Walleye drone go offline or disappear entirely) One final question. Why did the S.012 organism know the Moonlight Sonata?
SCP-4817-1: Because I taught it to sing. Because the centuries grow on one such as myself, it is the simple things such as song and prayer which keep me sane. Through prayer I hope that my brothers will succeed in slaying the Devil itself. Goodbye and God bless your souls.<LOGS END>
RESULTS OF BOTH LOG L4 AND O1
After Log O1, Walleye materialized in one of the branches of the tallest tree of SCP-4817. Walleye was recovered without incident, no damage seems to have been incurred from the space-time manipulation of S.011. Under the orders of the O5 Council, no further expeditions are to be sent underneath SCP-4817.
The painting recorded by Walleye has been studied, showing a single vortex-like pillar of water. This is presumed to be what SCP-4817 will become. Approximately 23 hours after Walleye was recovered, MBES waves were recorded. The following bathymetric map showed a large unidentified object, however several small dots indicate that this object is the "Leviathan" described by SCP-4817-1.
Finally, due to presence of several reality-bending entities within SCP-4817, the current designation is Pending Classification. Requests for a Euclid or Keter status have been denied (as of ██/██/201█) due to the fact that reality-bending entities are submerged deep within SCP-4817 and do not have a desire to move to the surface. Were the Leviathan to emerge from SCP-4817, there is the potential for an XK end of the world scenario.
