Description:
SCP-XXXX, an extra-terrestrial gelatinous mass reminiscent of the psychrolutes microporos species (blobfish) native to abyssal zones in waters around Australian and New Zealand, first appears to its victims in a corner of their eye or the dim spaces of a room. Anonymous sources have linked the first appearance of SCP-XXX with the origins of SCP-5026 in 2001. SCP-XXXX connects to human electrical brainwave activity to feed on fear and anxiety, and most victims only become aware of the parasite when SCP-XXXX has irreversibly affixed itself to their innermost thoughts and emotions. SCP-XXXX grows as it feeds until increasingly visible as a translucent dark mass hovering threateningly in dark spaces around its victim, camouflaging itself effectively when other humans approach and re-emerging to instil further fear when alone with its prey. Once fully engorged, the SCP_XXXX reproduces at night time by vomiting large masses of nightmarish black mucus that immediately slinks into the shadows. The human host thus discarded remains as a shaking husk, with medical experts to date reporting irreversible brain damage in almost all subjects. The sole exception to date has involved controversial ichthyologist and ufologist Dr. Albert Fisher, who secured the only existing photograph of SCP-XXXX (caption) in 2017 before himself falling prey to the SCP-XXXX despite his precautions. Dr. Fisher, now suffering from severe paranoid schizophrenia, is currently being detained at an undisclosed location.
