Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is a memetic cognitohazard but it is clear that something else unrecognized is also in effect. Preventing the seven tenants from being heard is the primary containment method. Audio Recordings of SCP-XXXX effectively spread the hazard.

SCP-XXXX-1 are to be brought to a secure facility and contained in sound proof rooms. SCP-XXXX-1 are non-violent and usually pose little physical danger. Putting a pair that could mate in a room together has resulted in SCP-XXXX-2 and SCP-XXXX-3. This has been deemed an unnecessary complication and should be avoided.

In facilities containing SCP-XXXX-1 and 2, any personnel interacting with someone infected with the memetic hazard should have a tone playing device permanently set to play at 90db with headphones in their ears at all times. Any attempt by an SCP-XXXX-1 or 2 to speak any of the seven tenants requires the test subject to engage the tone playing device immediately. Any test subjects should be familiarized with the "Safe List". See Below.

A secondary observer in an observation booth should also monitor any conversations and have a loudspeaker activate any time they think one of the tenants are going to be spoken. Any observers should be familiarized with the "Safe List". See Below.

SCP-XXXX-1 and 2 are persistent in trying to teach their tenants and have tried speaking the tenants one word at a time in response to sound avoidance techniques. Anyone that has been exposed to three or more but less than six of the tenants should be relocated to another position in the Foundation. Any subject that hears six of the tenants should be indefinitely isolated in a sound proof room to prevent them from inadvertently spreading the tenants.

Foundation personnel are not to discuss the tenants they have heard as someone else may have heard a different set and they could be completing the list for someone else. This has happened four times among D-Class personnel while not under observation.

It has been observed that as a subject is exposed to more of SCP-XXXX they start to prefer the company of SCP-XXXX-1 and 2. Some subjects willingly seek to complete their knowledge of SCP-XXXX after being exposed to as little as four tenants despite cognitive hardening.

SCP-XXXX tenants do not have to be learned in order.

Because of the SCP-XXXX-1 and 2's persistence in spreading the tenants, no interviews are to be published. Some tactics employed have been to seed normal conversation with the words of the tenants. This doesn't generate the full memetic hazard but it familiarizes the subject with the ideas.

Simply reading the SCP-XXXX tenants does not trigger the full effect but it does make the subject more favorable to SCP-XXXX and willing to hear the tenants spoken.

Initially SCP-XXXX-2 were put in foster homes but were returned to Foundation facilities once they spontaneously started to speak some of the SCP-XXXX tenants.

Amnesiatics have been effective on test subjects learning a new tenant. Antimemetic treatments have had some success in treating SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 but the treated often become despondent and paranoid. Even after treatment, spontaneous rediscovery of the tenants starts to occur after four to five months.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a list of seven "Tenants" that when heard, takes the form of a religion in the hearer's mind and become SCP-XXXX-1. Anyone that hears all seven of these tenants takes up a religion called "Lite". The name is said to be a play on words referring to visual light as a symbol of good and the idea that this religion is simple to convey and therefore "lite".

SCP-XXXX originally came to the Foundation's attention because of FBI investigations into a large increase in child mortality in the town of ████████ ███ ██████. Some of the FBI members were quickly given the seven tenants and became part of the religious community. Foundation operatives only narrowly prevented the FBI agents from getting back to their headquarters and spreading the tenants.

Some researchers have tried labeling SCP-XXXX as a cult but there is no central leader or an expressed deity. When interviewed, SCP-XXXX-1 are not aware of any dogma of a leader and express there is no need for one. Their world view might even be described better as a philosophy if it were not that SCP-XXXX-1 and 2 expressly describe it as a religion.

SCP-XXXX-1 can be identified by always saying good things about others. They may express negatives about themselves however. Perceived positive qualities are referred to as "lite" while negative qualities are referred to as "weights". SCP-XXXX-1 and 2 will point out and encourage others to continue displaying their good traits. This is central to the ideology.

SCP-XXXX-1 become pacifists with the exception of minimal self defense being allowed and even encouraged. Aside from this, SCP-XXXX-1 seem relatively normal and even pleasant to be around. The town they started in didn't suffer any ill effects at first.

Before containment, a number of couples in the "Lite" community had children. In every case, pregnancies gave birth to identical twins. These are SCP-XXXX-2 and SCP-XXXX-3. This is where SCP-XXXX stops being a purely memetic hazard. It's unclear how this anomaly manifests. Requests for testing proposals have been sent out to try and determine what causes this. The speculation is that there must be an unknown agent making this and some of the later stage effects of SCP-XXXX occur.

At seven days of age, the twins are put though a ceremony where one parent waves their hand over the two and declares one "lite" and the other "weight". The lite child is an SCP-XXXX-2 and the weight child is an SCP-XXXX-3. In three days the SCP-XXXX-3 dies, often from a congenital abnormality and sometimes from a genetic disorder that the other identical twin does not carry.

Neither parent appears distressed by this chain of events. They care for the ill child for the few days that it lives but insist that the death is beneficial.

Some SCP-XXXX-1 and most SCP-XXXX-2 have displayed the ability to spontaneously and accurately recognize the positive qualities of a test subject even if they have never interacted before. SCP-XXXX-2 have been noticed to actively avoid test subjects with lengthy criminal records even of an non-violent nature. SCP-XXXX-1 will politely decline to interact with these test subjects.

Requests have been filed to test this ability with other SCPs. It is thought that this ability might yield a way of quickly testing SCPs for beneficial traits.

There is one known instance of the oldest SCP-XXXX-2 saying the phrase "I have nothing to say to you." to D-1143. D-1143 became increasingly translucent and the subject's mass dropped fifty percent each hour until five hours later there was nothing left. During this process D-1143 reported feeling chilled and unwell being unable to keep any food or water from regurgitating despite marked hunger and thirst. In addition to this, D-1143 displayed a significant level of psychological distress being convinced he was "accursed". D-1143 was known to be a very difficult individual to get along with among other D-Class personnel but had no criminal record. The SCP-XXXX-2 would not comment on the incident. The SCP-XXXX-2 is now designated as SCP-XXXX-2-A for further study.

The Safe List:
The safe list of the seven tenants are as follows. It should be familiarized by anyone that will be assigned to SCP-XXXX duty.

Knowing part of a tenant of SCP-XXXX is not enough to have an effect on a subject's behavior. To make it possible for agents to recognize that a tenant is about to be spoken, the first half of the seven tenants are known as "the safe list". No personnel should speak the partial list and speculation as to the complete tenant is grounds for removal from the project. Even a single full tenant makes a person more willing to hear more tenants.

Addendum: The mental health of most SCP-XXXX-1 have deteriorated while confined. Allowing non-mating pairs to be housed together is under review. SCP-XXXX-1 have requested access to books, either physical or electronic. This request is under review and a pilot program providing cookbooks is underway. The SCP-XXXX-1 expressed that the cookbooks were of limited value to them since they aren't allowed to cook for themselves but were grateful for them.

SCP-XXXX-2 appear to have no negative effects while in confinement.

Addendum: Dr. Penn has suggested making one of the SCP-XXXX-2, possibly SCP-XXXX-2-A, incapable of speech by brain surgery. Given the self healing nature of SCP-XXXX, it's speculated she may recover in time. This would greatly enhance the safety of experimentation without the loss of communication as anything that would be said could be written down. This wouldn't eliminate the memetic hazard, but it would greatly reduce the danger.

Addendum: Dr. Craig has proposed separating a pair of SCP-XXXX-2 and 3 from their SCP-XXXX-1s before the seventh day ceremony. Given the traits of SCP-XXXX-2 and what that might mean for a maturing SCP-XXXX-3, this experiment will require a high level review before moving forward.
