Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: The SCP-XXXX pair is currently stored at Site-4078. Personnel handling the SCP-XXXX pair should obey all local laws and regulations regarding the storage of firearms and ammunition, and handle them with the same care given to any historical artefact. Personnel should maintain reasonable contact with police and museum personnel regarding the preservation of the SCP-XXXX pair.
Description: SCP-XXXX-A and SCP-XXXX-B are LMG 08/15 model machine-guns recovered from the Fokker Dr.I piloted by Manfred von Richthofen at the time of his death on 21 April 1918.1 Documents in the █████████ Barracks archives (kindly opened to our analysts on request to the officers on post) indicate that Australian officers looting the wreck had played with the weapons, and attributed the success of the Red Baron to the unusually large amount of ammunition remaining; despite being in combat for an extended period of time. The SCP-XXXX pair was confiscated from the officers before further testing by them could be performed.
Acquisition: SCP analysts tracked down the SCP-XXXX pair as belonging to Garry "Gazza" █████, a descendant of the Australian Army Ordnance Corps officer who had placed SCP-XXXX in his bunk while in transit back to Australia.2 Garry █ immediately surrendered the items, under the incorrect notion that SCP personnel were police inspectors.
Further Testing: Firing range tests reveal that SCP-XXXX-A and SCP-XXXX-B have a high chance of discharging a projectile without expending the loaded cartridge, in alignment with the archived claims of Fokker Dr.I 425/17 containing an unusually large of ammunition for such a long combat operation. Exact percentages of non-expenditure are currently undetermined, pending further testing. Chance of non-expenditure decreases inversely with barrel temperature, and is almost effectively zero at 96°C. The current highest recorded number of shots fired from a single 500-round belt of 7.92×57mm Mauser ammunition is 1479, achieved with short half-second bursts over the space of three hours. The exact origin of the extra projectile within the weapons is unknown. The muzzle velocity of extra projectiles is 890m/s as opposed to the expected 900m/s, which hints at the replication point being some short distance in front of the cartridge that was supposed to fire.
Proposed utilisation: SCP Personnel Jimmy "Jazza" █████ floated the idea of fitting modern cooling systems to SCP-XXXX-A and SCP-XXXX-B to investigate if the pair was capable of firing for an unlimited amount of time. Interest was shown amongst the team, but was ultimately pigeon-holed due to:
- The value of the anomaly as undamaged historical artefacts.
- The questionable effectiveness of such a weapon. Even with an unlimited amount of ammunition, the SCP-XXXX pair are still products of the First World War- they would be inferior to modern weaponry in range, ballistic properties, rate of fire, and stopping power.
- The passive nature of the anomaly.
- The existence of higher-priority anomalies in this FORSAKEN HELLHOLE COUNTRY GOD DAMN. Why is it is so fucking hot? I'll finish this after I down a tinnie or two
