Item #: SCP-nnnn

Object Class: Keter (Thaumiel?)

Disruption Class: Dark

Threat Level: White

Special Containment Procedures: Special Containment Procedures: SCP nnnn is to be kept in a 40 x 40 x20cm passcode safe. The passcode is to be changed bi-daily and will only be given to those with Level 3 clearance. Scp-nnnn’s safe may be opened up to conduct tests with scp-nnnn-1 instances.
All instances of SCP-nnnn-1 are to be contained in 5mx5mx2.5m cells, and are allowed to leave cells for nutrition and human contact. SCP-nnnn-1 are free to enter each other’s cells at any time in the instance they wish to discuss SCP-nnnn. Upon request, SCP-nnnn-1 are allowed to have what they need to maintain mental health, this does not include SCP-nnnn itself.
(See addendum 1-2-A)

Quoting and/or paraphrasing the contents inside SCP-nnnn is restriced. (See addendum 1)

SCP-nnnn’s safe has been moved to a collector’s book store, Time █████████ Rationers 400 kilometers away from Site-43. And is available to all personnel managing the book store front or with a level-3 security clearance. At least two or more personnel must be instances of SCP-nnnn-1.

Personnel are forbidden from examining its contents beyond the front and back cover, unless already an instance of SCP-nnnn-1, or has special clearance to become an instance of SCP-nnnn-1. (See Addendum 38-A)

Instances of SCP-nnnn-1 who ask of SCP-nnnn’s whereabouts or request to read it are required by personnel to allow SCP-nnnn-1 to read SCP-nnnn at their leisure. Afterwards, instances of SCP-nnnn-1(excluding personnel) are to be administered Class-A Class B Class H (See Addendum 2-3) Class E amnestics.

Upon the completion of Class C mobile amnestic clinics, one is to be deployed to the store front immediately for use on non-staffed instances of SCP-nnnn-1.

If any copies of SCP-nnnn are discovered, they are to be stored in a separate 40 x 40 x 20cm safe and transported to the store front. Any additional copies may all be stored in the same safe once delivered. The safe will be replaced if copies ever exceed the safe volume.

Description: SCP-nnnn is a hard cover children’s book measuring dimensions of about 28 x 21 x 0.6 cm.

The book cover is titled “A Gender in my Pender”, authored by the stage name of Theodor Seuss Geisel: “Dr. Seuss." The cover contains a young child character with an anthropomorphic non-binary gender symbol standing in their bag. The bag is drawn to look fuzzy and resemble a satchel. The strap of the bag splits halfway up the child’s torso into two straps that sit on their shoulders like a backpack.

The back cover appropriately contains a single label in the center with the text “BRIGHT and EARLY Books for BEGINNING Beginners”, with The Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat holding the label up like a sign. The only notable difference from this label and the label of official Dr. Seuss publications is that the “K” in “Books” looks of equal size to the “o” or “s” neighboring it. This has led many staff to speculate the book is likely an imitation and not an authentic Dr. Seuss creation. This still does not confirm whether or not there are multiple copies of SPC-nnnn.

The following is a transcript of SCP-nnnn’s pages:
[Data Expunged] (See addendum 1-AB)
(See below for non-anomalous summary, written by Richard Abbot)

“So, from what I do gather, Gender in My Pender is a book about the importance of gender expression and acceptance, topped with that Dr. Seuss layer of nonsensicality. Through its fun rhymes and shenanigans, it expresses why we should just be okay with non-binary genders and stuff like that, and makes them out to be much simpler than we think. The book has pictures of the main character on the cover meeting all the different genders and learning about their “penders” as he goes along. The genders are drawn as fuzzy anthropomorphic gender symbols, and each one lives an identical looking “pender” like the one on the cover. Inside each “pender” is a different color, which I believe is supposed to correlate to difference on the inside, which is what the whole gender expression thing is probably. I’d know if I’d read it, probably.”
~Richard Butt

Also within the book, confirmed by multiple instances of SCP-nnnn-1: is a [Redacted] publication date (04/███/1977), [Redacted] ([Redacted]), and a front page saying “Dedicated to Lok” though there is no other data present aside from the book’s contents.

The year of publication presents further circumstantial evidence that the book’s author is false, though [Redacted] publication implies there are more copies of SCP-nnnn to be found.

When a person observes inside the covers of SCP-nnnn at any time, nothing can stop them from reading the book front-to-end for the duration of their reading session (See addendum 1-2-A).

This duration varies depending on reading ability, but it has never exceeded approximately 16 minutes. Subjects who’d been confirmed to be bad at reading English were able to learn the words and complete the book around the 16-minute mark. Once a person has read SPC-nnnn, they will demonstrate a sense of nostalgia upon the book’s mentioning, and will acquire the habit of addressing any strangers as “they” in the third person until their true pronoun is implied or spoken.

People who’ve read SCP-nnnn tend to show more moderate levels of sympathy and/or empathy if they hadn’t before, also becoming advocators of gender rights and/or expression. Several readers of SCP-nnnn even came out as transgender up to 20 days after reading SCP-nnnn.

Anyone who reads SCP-nnnn’s contents will become an instance of SPC-nnnn-1.

Anyone who has seen a transcript or summary of SCP-nnnn written by an instance of SCP-nnnn-1 undergoes a very similar phenomenon, and are designated SCP-nnnn-2.

Any instances of SCP-nnnn-1 will inevitably read SCP-nnnn again (or for SCP-nnnn-2 instances, the first time. In which afterwards become SCP-nnnn-1 instances) regardless of procedures or precautions taken to stop them. (See addendum 1-2) The difference between these designations is that SCP-nnnn-2 instances have yet to read SCP-nnnn and thus may produce a non-anomalous summary.

All instances of SCP-nnnn-1 have shown an inability to be terminated (See addendum 1-2), unless through old age. (See addendum 38-A) While all SCP-nnnn-1 are immune to unnatural death, they are not immune to tragedy. Statistically however, they tend to be out of harm's way more than an entity that has not read SCP-nnnn.

Rare instances of SCP-nnnn-1 have noted incorrect information among the store front, such as the store front’s world map, and information in non-fiction later confirmed to be correct. Upon further inquiry, it has been discovered that SCP-nnnn’s allure stretches across multiple realities. Based on this information, it is theorized that if SCP-nnnn were to be destroyed, all instances of SCP-nnnn-1 and SCP-nnnn-2 will eventually hop realities in order for the book to be read once again. If this is true, it would also prove there is only one copy. (See Interviews 13-124; 2-23 and 16-131;)

Addendum:
Addendum 1-A:
Incident Report:
D-Class personnel and instance of SCP-nnnn-1 Lars Cheng was requested to quote the contents of the entire book on paper.
Dr. Ellis Elv and Dr. Preston Alwar, upon reading this transcript, began demonstrating an appreciation for the writing and theme of the book, they now have a desire to “definitely” read the book for themselves “sometime”, though at their leisure. They have been designated as SCP-nnnn-2.
Testing will be run in order to determine if any distillation of the book’s contents can be deemed safe to read.

Addendum 1-Ab:
Cheng was asked to summarize the book’s content in a later test, rather than copy it word for word.
When given to D-Class personnel Richard Abbot to read, he would later bring it up with a nostalgic tone. He stated he would “love to see the full book for real some day.”
Prior to reading the summary, Abbot showed particular distaste towards the book, even claiming it was “terrible something like that would be made for children.”
Abbot is also now another instance of SCP-nnnn-2.

Addendum 1-Ac:
Abbot was requested to summarize Cheng’s paraphrase. After having six D-Class personnel read over the summary, only one of them demonstrated any sense of interest, although when asked if they cared whether they’d ever read it or not, they replied with a no.
This level of information distillation has been proved non-anomalous and is safe to read.

Addendum 1-2:
Incident log: During the containment breach on 05/██/20██ at Site-81, 67 personnel were killed and 14 injured. All subjects and staff who were instances of SCP-nnnn-1 survived, either injured or unharmed despite the overall damage. Additionally, two unrecorded instances of SCP-nnnn-1 and SCP-nnnn-2 (now designated SCP-nnnn-1-34 and SCP-nnnn-2-35) were able to enter Site-119 amidst the breach. Data retrieved contains security footage of one of SCP-nnnn-1-34 acquiring SCP-nnnn and soon after taking refuge to an empty cell, where the other had hid for their own safety. The two read the book together during the breach in a cell, and both emitted sighs of relief, appearing moderately destressed. After finishing, the two waited and became anxious again, but did not bother to open SCP-nnnn again to re-achieve this destress.

miningtown

Canterbury, Pennsylvania.

Special Containment Procedures: Personnel are not allowed within five hundred meters of the designated boundary in case of an unregistered expansion of SCP-XXXX. The perimeter of SCP-XXXX is to be guarded by both security patrols and surveillance systems at all times. Digital and printed maps of SCP-XXXX’s boundaries are to be provided to each patrol and updated daily. Transport into SCP-XXXX is to be accomplished with remotely controlled logistics vehicles.

All SCP-XXXX-1 instances are to be contained within the anomalous zone. All existing instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be implanted with a micro-tracking device and newly formed instances should receive such a tracker as soon as possible. Damaged or inactive trackers are to be reported and replaced at the earliest convenience to minimize the chances of instances leaving SCP-XXXX’s perimeter. Psychology Department staff are to monitor SCP-XXXX-1 instances for signs of mental and mood disorder following their creation.

Under no circumstance should other anomalies (in particular ones of mammalian appearance or origin) be allowed within 50 km of SCP-XXXX. Unregistered experimentation with or admittance of anomalies within SCP-XXXX has the potential to cause a LK-Class Scenario. SCP-XXXX has therefore been subjected to an additional risk analysis and Level 4 Clearance is necessary to access any of the shared files in possession of the Foundation on this subject.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a circular area of land located in and around Canterbury, Pennsylvania. It is approximately thirteen kilometers in diameter as of 21-02-2021.

Subjects (hereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-1) exposed to SCP-XXXX’s anomalous effect undergo rapid cellular division.1 This process results in a complete duplication of the subject: skin tissue, blood vessels, nerves, organs and other organic features are regrown at rates in excess of its nominal biological functions. The head splits first in nearly all of recorded humanoid cases, bifurcating and regrowing until the subject sports two separate heads on its shoulders. The heads appear to be fully functional and sentient at this time.

Both instances report experiencing a tickling sensation along the areas of its body in the process of undergoing the rapid mitosis. In some recorded cases, both heads will fall unconscious at this time as the singular heart is unable to distribute enough blood to each separate brain. Once the heart and lungs have undergone the anomalous effect, those subjects that have fainted regain consciousness within seconds as blood flow is restored. After the newly grown extremities of the subject have fully formed, the split will separate the two interconnected physiques, separating the subject into two duplicates.

The entire process of division is recorded to take between five to thirty seconds, dependent on the mass of the individual affected by SCP-XXXX. The creation of new SCP-XXXX-1 instances have been directly linked to the intermittent expansions of SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX-1 instances are immune to further duplication, providing both instances are alive and within the perimeter of the anomaly. Should either instance of the same subject pass away or leave SCP-XXXX, the remaining instance will once again be affected by the anomaly. There is currently no means to revert the process caused by SCP-XXXX.

Containment procedures: SCP ???? is to be kept in a bulletproof glass container in the center of a 5x5x2m room in site██. <More may be added here>

Description: SCP ???? is a book, measuring 15cm by 10cm by 5cm in size, with blue covers and no title.
The book begins with a detailed description of the big bang, then continues to describe the past in full detail. After describing the present the book continues picturing the future. After describing 4 months of the future the pages become blank, but still infinite. The book writes inside itself constantly, keeping up with the present and future, and maintaining a 4 month period of described future. SCP ???? can tell the future with full accuracy. The future described in the book cannot be changed, even by trying to do the absolute opposite.
On the outside it looks like the book has around 300-500 pages, though it seems one can flip through the pages infinitely.

So many years of torture.
Darkness washed over.
I'm slowly dying.

It is my confinement.
It is my enslavement.
It cannot be suppressed.

What will become of me?
What would become of it?
Will it be set free?
Or would it come with?

I have to disconnect.

Only God knows now.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is locked in a standard safe item storage unit in Site-██. Anyone exhibiting signs of having interacted with SCP-XXXX are to report to the site psychiatrist or be given Class C amnestics. Testing on SCP-XXXX is no longer permitted.

The rest of the submarine that originally housed SCP-XXXX is stored separately at Site-73. Researchers with Clearance Level 2 or above may contact the Site Director to study the submarine with supervision from at least one Level 4 Personnel. If its suspected anomalous properties manifest, it is to be transferred to Site-██ immediately and the Site Director must be notified.

SCP-XXXX-1 is kept in a standard humanoid containment cell in Site-17. Anything SCP-XXXX-1 says is to be ignored or considered a lie until further research is done into the nature of SCP-XXXX. If SCP-XXXX-1 acts erratically or aggressively, they must either be taken to the site psychiatrist or have various privileges removed until compliance is achieved. Any personnel shown to sympathize with SCP-XXXX-1's cause in any way are to be disciplined, and at worst administered Class C amnestics and transferred to another Site.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a control panel resembling those used in nuclear submarines. On the panel is a button enclosed in a glass case. When the case is lifted and the button is pressed, whoever pressed it receives visions of a collapsing universe. These visions usually consist of three phases: a) all life on Earth (plant-life, animals, humans, etc.) dying, b) planets crumbling and stars exploding, and c) the entirety of the universe dissolving.

While under the influence of SCP-XXXX, individuals are frozen in a catatonic state, unable to move or speak. The visions invariably last one minute. They are described as being sensory accurate and "extremely realistic." Lasting negative psychological effects have been recorded amongst individuals who experienced these visions, but these effects are deemed to be due to the graphic nature of the visions and not due to separate anomalous effects.

Addendum-1: Recovery details: SCP-XXXX was recovered from the Ozarks in MO, USA by MTF-Zeta-17 (Beach Bullies) after local reports raised suspicion of anomalous behavior. Its anomalous properties were affirmed when a member of the team, Agent ████ ████, unintentionally pressed the exposed button and was catatonic for one minute. They were administered Class C amnestics and have returned to duty. Class-A amnestics were distributed to the public in the surrounding area and the submarine was transferred to Foundation custody.

While MTF-Sigma-66 (Steel Veil) was working on covering up the operation and eliminating information relating to it, SCP-XXXX-1 was discovered to be spreading awareness of the anomaly in nearby towns. They were apprehended, interrogated, and transferred to Site-17, where they remain now.
