Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is currently being stored in a secure room at Site 19’s High Value Item Storage Facility. SCP-XXXX’s containment room is completely covered on all interior surfaces by LED globes which constantly emit bright white light; these globes are to remain ON and functioning at all times, and routine checks on functionality are required at least twice a week. While inside this secure room each instance of SCP-XXXX is to remain atop a bench at the centre of the room. Access to and subsequent testing with SCP-XXXX must be by permission of site personnel with level 2 clearance or higher, and can only be granted after submitting a formal request to site command.

In addition SCP-XXXX-h-1 and SCP-XXXX-h-2 are to be kept in a locked strongbox in the adjacent secure room designated: Dark Storage. NO LIGHT below the Infrared spectrum is to be brought into Dark Storage under any circumstances. Only staff with level 3 clearance of higher may enter Dark Storage without supervision.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to eight separate items of ordinary looking late 19th century sewing equipment which present varying anomalous qualities when interacting with shadows. Each instance is distinctly different from the others save that all instances have the same marking of what appears to be an old fashioned spinning wheel flanked by two crescent moons.

The item descriptions are listed below:

SCP-XXXX-a is a sewing needle 4.5cm in length and composed of steel, with fig.1 0.8mm wide engraved near the needle’s eye.

• When affixed with a length of thread from XXXX-b, the needle can be utilized to ‘sew’ shadows together. When pressed against a shadowed spot on a surface, the shadow will lift and crinkle slightly as though it were made of fabric. If pushed further the needle will ‘pass through’ the shadow as a regular needle does through regular fabric. If the shadows from two separate objects are ‘overlapping’ each other (i.e. the effect that is evident when multiple light sources are shining from different directions on multiple spaced out objects, especially evident when the light sources are different colours) the needle can be used to ‘sew’ them together. When the shadows of two objects are ‘sewn’ together, the shadows cannot separate from each other, stretching and distorting as the objects move around or away from each other with apparently no limit to distance; this effect has been observed with distances of upwards of 50km.
• There appears to be no detectable adverse physical or medical effects to ‘sewing’ together the shadows of living specimens. Feelings of mild mental distress are quite common, at this stage it is unclear whether this is an anomalous effect, or just a previously unobserved natural reaction to one’s shadow being altered and distorted.

SCP-XXXX-b is a thread-spool composed of pine and tin, holding about 123cm 103cm of jet black thread. fig.1 is engraved into the top of the spool.

• The black thread does not cast a shadow, nor does it seem to reflect any light at all. The thread cannot be lifted by normal means, as far as we can tell only the SCP-XXXX objects can even interact, as all other material objects just pass right through it as if through a shadow; BECAUSE OF THIS JUNIOR RESEARCHERS ARE TO NEVER COMPLETELY REMOVE THE THREAD FROM THE SPOOL WITHOUT SUPERVISION FROM A SUPERIOR. It does not have any apparent weight, as the spool weighs exactly the same as without the thread attached.

SCP-XXXX-c Is 13 steel pins, each about 3.2cm long with slight variations of 2mm or less, all bearing fig.1 on the wooden head of the pin.

• The pins work in very much the same way as the needle with thread, one may insert it through multiple overlapped shadows to ‘pin’ them together. The main difference being that the pins are much easier to remove as they can be pulled out by hand with no extra equipment. In addition, if the two ‘pinned’ objects move around 3.3 meters from their origin point the pins will simply fall out, and the shadows will snap back to a normal position in a manner similar to elastic.

SCP-XXXX-d is a ruler 15.2cm in length, and 2.5cm wide. The ruler’s anomalous qualities have not yet been determined.

• This item is still kept in containment with the other SCP-XXXX items as it too is branded with fig.1, and so it is likely to have as of yet unknown anomalous properties. Research is ongoing.

SCP-XXXX-e is a seam ripper 11.4cm in length and composed of steel, with fig.1 embossed onto its red leather handle. This tool can be used to unpick stitches that have been sewn into a shadow.

• This seam ripper is the only known method of removing stitching done by XXXX-a. Once unpicked, the XXXX-b thread may be used again, and does not appear to suffer any damage at all by the process. It can often prove quite difficult to find the stitching on a given shadow, and use of XXXX-g is often required.

SCP-XXXX-f is a palm-sized triangular piece of white, cloth chalk. The chalk does function as normal cloth chalk, but also has the unique ability to ‘draw’ on shadows.

• Our understanding of shadows as entities separate from just the absence of light is apparently still in its infancy as the entire Site 19 research team cannot figure out why, if you are behind an object far larger than yourself and you are completely in its shadow, the chalk still recognises where your shadow would be in relation to the light source. It truly boggles the mind. As such it proves immensely difficult to ‘draw’ on a shadow that isn’t your own, except with the use of XXXX-g.
• It was at first thought impossible to remove a marking from a shadow, as Researcher Cara G_ spent the better part of a week with a “smiley face” roughly drawn on the head of her shadow, the humour was lost on her after the first hour. She later discovered that by entering a place where you ‘have no shadow’ such as a tanning bed.

SCP-XXXX-g is a pair of supple elbow-length white leather gloves, with fig.1 embroidered in the back of each glove. These gloves appear to have been tailored for an individual with unusually thin hands, (as such testing with them has been quite limited as select only a few individuals on-site can actually fit them over their hands).

• They do not cast a shadow, nor do they appear to interact with light in any normal sense, other than reflecting enough light to give its white colour. Upon further experimentation it has been found that the gloves in fact do not reflect light, but instead emit a small amount of visible white light at all times. The intensity of light does grow or diminish based on the light intensity of the environment; Experiment-XXXX-g-a.
• These gloves allow their wearer to interact with, and handle shadow as though it were fabric. One may slip their hand over a shadow cast on the ground, and the shadow will not move to cast on the hand as well, as though it were just ‘passing through’ the gloved hand. In addition one may slide their hand under a shadow and lift it from the ground revealing, as far as we can tell, a space of ground that is lit by a non-existent light source.
• XXXX-g has given us a very unique opportunity, as never before has anyone been able to discern the texture of a shadow; as described by Dr. _, it is “like silk with an innumerable thread count, inconceivable fine weave.” While wearing XXXX-g shadow does not seem to be nearly as elastic as it seems to have in tests with XXXX-a, having far greater resistance when under physical strain. Though we have done quite thorough testing, shadow proves to be apparently impervious to being torn by human strength.

SCP-XXXX-h is a pair of 20.3cm long steel fabric shears, with a rotating thumb-grip adapted for ambidextrous usage.

• The material of the shears interacts with shadows in the same way as XXXX-a/c/e, being able to shift and wrinkle the shadow with light pressure. In addition they can cut the shadow as you would cut fabric. The shadow seems to act as though it were woven of threads, as simply closing the shears whilst keeping them still does not cut the shadow, one is required to slide the shears along, generally also requiring the use of XXXX-g to grip one end of the shadow.
• When the shadow of an object is partially cut, there does not appear to be any observable physical change to the object. The ‘piece’ of shadow can be handled, folded, moved around, acting quite similar to thin silk.

Special Containment Procedures: The SCP Foundation and the Russian government have come to a mutual agreement regarding SCP-XXXX.

Containment and testing are prohibited, but observation and monitoring have been allowed.

If SCP-XXXX acts not of its usual nature, extra precautionary measures should and will take place.

If SCP-XXXX is to act erratically, Protocol Russian American is to be launched. This plan consists of temporarily removing the sitting Russian president and transferring him/her to a secure bunker for his/her safety. Testing is allowed to learn about the full extent of SCP-XXXX hypothetical abilities. Once they are learned, The president is allowed to move back to the office and resume normalcy.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to a transparent border around the sitting Russian president (Vladimir Putin)'s office. This border suppresses aggression/or aggression-fueled intentions while any biological entity is inside the border and in the vicinity of the Russian president. SCP-XXXX prevents aggressive assassinations, and assault.

The side effects that SCP-XXXX has on the office include minor spatial warps on the walls and spontaneous item relocation inside the office itself. This shows that the border was made in great haste.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered during Russian president Vladimir Putin's first term¹ on 5/13/2005 when a USA government-issued assassination attempt was made by a United States soldier. The soldier was let free, and rumors of the soldier's intent being lost reached the foundation, and soon later, Foundation researcher Dr. Darcy traveled to Russia for an interview on the anomaly. Anomaly summary: An that erases itself from memory after a period of time. However the effects only take place when the head is viewed. When the effects take place, the subject will illustrate the appearance of the SCP, even if there was no drawing skill beforehand. Once the drawing is complete the victim will have gone into a state of insanity and starts to scratch out the face of the drawing and write sigils and words of distress. These sigils have no current meaning. Once the subject has undergone this event, they will have no memory of the event and presume their normal life.

There are a total of 10 sigils that are illustrated, each classified SCP-XXXX-1 to 10.

Narrative: The Anti-memetics division has taken the case suspecting that SCP-XXXX is an anti-meme, as any descriptions of the face causes subjects to undergo the event. The face is not biological, it is a geometrical formation above the neck, which appears to be severed. Once the division concluded it was a hybrid of a meme and an anti-meme it struck interest in the Dragnel Association. A highly secret group of people with self-applied anomalous abilities which allow them to examine anomalous entities closely. As well as prevent capture from any other groups. The groups patch is similar to one of the sigils that are illustrated. The group concludes the meaning of this sigil as the Dragnel sigil, which represents the five universal elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Limbo, or more accurately classified as Temperature, Liquid, Solid, Gas, Energy. Each member currently possesses one of the elements each unique to their personality. 05 Council has allowed them to examine the SCP-XXXX case, after a few interviews was done.

The Dragnel Association requested to take custody of SCP-XXXX for further investigation in their own lab, where full access to their equipment was located. The request was denied multiple times, until 05-1 decided it was suitable to allow them to take custody as long as MTF units where present and to update the Foundation.

Title 1

Ok, initial concept.

Type: physically inert item (haven't decided what, exactly, maybe a locket?) that "projects" a field of effect, with the radius growing in size if it's been too long since it last affected someone. Anyone that progresses into REM sleep within the radius will be affected by the item (only one person at any given time, although affecting multiple people at once could be interesting).

Effects: (trying to not write this too technically, I'll save that for the actual entry) Once the subject enters REM sleep, they will experience an extremely vivid dream, always of the same place. I haven't hammered out specific details yet, but it will be some sort of small country church, circa 1940s, set up for an outdoor wedding in a densely wooded area. Of note is that any physical injury sustained while in the dream will spontaneously effect the dreamer, with no cause visible to observers. Additionally, regardless of injury, the subject will not wake up unless they do certain things in the dream (which is generally how you get out/wake up) or are woken by external stimulus (which will result in something Bad, haven't decided what yet).
The entire area is hazardous in a fantastical sort of way, with things like Butterwort-esque gauze curtains hanging from a wedding pavilion, volatile/exploding presents on a gift table, poisonous hors d'oeuvres, and predatory flora in the remarkably dense forest surrounding the church. However, the focal point of the dream, and only other sign of human life in it, is the body of the "bride". She/it appears to be comatose when found, but if disturbed, will scream loud enough (140+ db) to cause permanent hearing damage, and will result in the subject waking up with full memory of the events of the dream.

Containment: The item can get put in a locker somewhere, but after testing, the foundation will discover that it periodically needs to expose a D-class to it to keep the radius from expanding too much.

Special Containment Procedures:
When an appearance of SCP-5176 is reported, MTF Eta-11 (Savage Beasts) will immediately set up an exclusion zone of 10 kilometres around it and divert any civillians. Any civillians who are found in the zone must be detained and brought to the nearest foundation facility.

If personnel need to take the earmuffs off for the purpose of research, this must be approved by a senior researcher.This must be authorised by personnel with clearance level 4 or higher. Anyone who hears SCP-5176 is immediately designated a class-E personnel and is to be taken to the nearest SCP foundation site, where they will suffer a fatal accident in the next two days³

Description: SCP-5176 was originally believed to be a legend, dating back to the 16th century, but her reappearance was discovered by foundation personnel on █/█ /20█. Before the foundation could set up containment procedures, approximately ten hikers reported seeing her, with 2 recording her wail. Thankfully, it seems the cognitohazard effect can only be recieved through hearing her wail firsthand. A cover story was disseminated, detailing how it was a prank by online influencers. The hikers family and friends were issued class-A amnestics.

She can be seen crying, and will wail for a period of 10 minutes every 2 hours. Anyone who hears her wails will suffer a fatal accident in the next two days, and if there is no fatal objects in their vicinity, will suffer some medical trauma[see addendum 1]. Because of this, her wails are to be classified as a cognitohazard.

All attempts to capture her result in her disappearing by anomalous means when Foundation Personnel get within 3 metres of her⁴. She was discovered by Agent [DATA EXPUNGED], who heard about her through local rumours of hikers suffering horrific accidents after walking through SCP-5176’s zone of containment⁵ Agent[DATA EXPUNGED] investigated the forest and saw SCP-5176 for himself. He reported this to the foundation, but unfortunately, had a fatal car accident the next day. This is believed to be a result of hearing SCP-XXXX’s wail.

Experiment 1:
D-8295 was sent into the SCp-5176’s area of last sighting, where he heard SCP-5176's wail. He left the area and was kept under close observation for the next two days. Exactly 1 day and 11 hours after hearing SCp-5176’s wail, D-8295’s knife slipped while eating his meal, cutting his wrists. He bled an anomalous amount, and died of blood loss before medical personnel could arrive.
Doctors note: “it was like a fucking fire hose, bleeding out should take an hour or two with his injuries, but he died in seconds.”

Experiment 2:
D-8305 was sent into SCP-5176’s area of last sighting, where he heard SCP-5176's wail. Unlike the previous experiment, D-8305 was kept under strict suicide watch, and only fed soft food. Exactly 1 day and 13 hours after hearing SCP-5176’s wail, he choked on his daily meal.
Researcher’ note: “he choked on soup. Fucking soup. I formally recommend liquid nutrition for the next experiment.”

Experiment 3:
D-8326 was sent into SCP-5176’s area of last sighting, where he heard SCP-5176’s wail. He was put into an artificial coma, and fed liquid nutrition. No sharp objects were allowed in the room. Exactly 1 day and 22 hours after hearing SCP-5176’s wail, he suffered a cardiac arrest, and died.
Doctor’s note:”I requested a healthy subject for this town, and i examined him myself. In what world does a 23 year old athlete suffer a heart attack?”

Experiment 4: D-8349 was sent into SCp-5176’s area of last sighting, where he heard SCP-5176’s wail. He was issued a Class-A amnestic and has not suffered any accidents or medical trauma committed suicide after scrawling [DATA EXPUNGED] on the walls of his quarters

Experiment 5: D-8376 was told to listen to a recording of SCP-5176’s wail. He has had no accidents, and there has been no visible effect. It seems that the only way to receive the effect is to actually hear the wail.

Experiment 6
D-8392 was sent into SCP-5176's area of last sighting, and after 1 hour and 14 minutes, he made contact with her. All attempts to conversate with her failed, and she disappeared when he got within 3 metres of her.

Experiment 7
D-8674 was selected for his artistic skills, and was sent into SCP-5176's area of last sighting. he was instructed to sketch her, and then return [NOTE: D-8674 was not expected to survive this encounter. He drew a sketch of SCP-5176 and returned. Using this, we now have a rudimentary idea of what SCP-5176 looks like.
