Item #: SCP-3398 - The Dark Dragon
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3398 is to be kept inside a square containment cell 180x180 feet lined with titanium. Regular video monitoring is to be maintained 24 hours a day to ensure no abnormal behavior. No personnel may enter SCP-3398’s containment cell at any time without permission from a Class 3 personnel. Anyone caught inside SCP-3398’s containment cell without proper permission are to be locked inside. The cell is to be kept pitch black without any light. Cameras are to use infrared signatures to monitor SCP-3398.
Description: SCP-3398 is a large dragon-like entity with four legs, roughly 2.4m in height and 4m in length. It has four paws and long claws on each appendage of each paw. Each paw contains four appendages. These claws are about 10cm long and are incredibly sharp. Two horns protrude from SCP-3398’s head. However, the left horn is broken near the base for unknown reasons. SCP-3398’s eyes are empty black and contain large white pupils that appear to glow. SCP-3398 has a coat of dark black fur that blends into darkness. SCP-3398 also has large, feathery wings and a tail with two diamonds at the end.
Any artificial light source illuminating SCP-3398, including flashlights, candles, or even gun flashes, will not work for unknown reasons, presumed by forces of SCP-3398, so it must be kept in the dark. It is unknown how SCP-3398 will react to sunlight, but it is presumed to manifest only in complete darkness. Because of this, it is impossible to gain exact measurements of SCP-3398. In the darkness, only SCP-3398’s eyes, horns, claws, and 'V' shaped stripes on the ankles can be seen in the darkness, giving off a low amount of white light. SCP-3398 does not require food or water. The composition of SCP-3398's fur, teeth, and horns are currently unknown.
SCP-3398 is mostly dormant, and does not move a considerable distance on any given day. At most, it moves 5m in an entire day on rare occasions. SCP-3398 will stare at a given point for up to six hours before moving to stare at another point. It is unknown why SCP-3398 does this, but it is presumed it can see something that humans cannot. If provoked, SCP-3398 will turn around, staring at the one who provoked it. It will then close to 1m and maintain this distance. If the subject does not flee or turn away, SCP-3398 will attack with its claws.
SCP-3398 emits an aura of unknown composure 25m in a circle around it. The aura has no color, smell, radiation trace, or sound aside from a subtle humming. Short-term exposure to this aura has no significant effect for the outermost 5m. However, upon going up to 5m deeper into the aura, anything living inside the field will begin to feel a subtle emotion, ranging from sadness to anger to even violence. If the subject continues deeper into the field, the emotions will intensify. Upon coming into 5m range with SCP-3398, its head will turn and its eyes will stare at the subject. This alone is enough to weaken any will left. The subject will most likely turn and run for the exit without thinking. SCP-3398 will not attempt to follow, and return to its dormant state.
The feelings that come from SCP-3398’s aura stay inside the subject indefinitely. Attempts to use amnesiacs to erase these feelings have proven futile. Those suffering from violent feelings often attempt to attack personnel trying to treat them and results in termination. Other feelings, such as sadness and anger, will linger throughout the lifetime of the subject and often consume the entire mind.
Discovery:
SCP-3398 was discovered in a forest in ████████, Germany. Two schoolboys were walking home at night when they claimed to see a pair of blank white eyes at 00:00 P.M. in the forest. Local law enforcement arrived but failed to report back within 24 hours. The schoolboys also failed to respond within 24 hours. The Foundation gained interest when KSG 9 forces reported to the site and went missing within 48 hours. Mobile Task Force 0 proceeded to capture SCP-3398 by <DATA EXPUNGED>
Experiment A: Tests on SCP-3398's reactions to humans entering its vicinity
D-3421 is instructed to enter SCP-3398’s containment cell unarmed and is instructed to report anything unusual about SCP-3398 or himself. Dr. █████ monitors the experiment. Two Class 3 security guards wait at the door armed with rifles and stun grenades. D-3421 approaches SCP-3398 by direct order. For the first 5m, D-3421 makes no observations, but after passing 5m, he reports feeling a vague sense of sadness, but cannot trace it. Dr. █████ takes note and instructs D-3421 to advance further. He does as told, and upon closing to 15m from SCP-3398, he claims to feel the sadness overtaking him. He is instructed to persist and keep moving. However, D-3421 drops to his knees and starts crying, covering his face with his hands, claiming the sadness is consuming him. Dr. █████ obliges and the experiment is terminated. D-3421 is sent for debrief.
Termination Attempt:
Five guards armed with small arms and stun grenades enter SCP-3398’s containment cell. They are instructed to open fire at once. All but one do as instructed and shoot ten rounds each, aiming for the lit horns and eyes. The gun flashes do not appear, even though the weapons do not possess flash hiders. This is noted just as SCP-3398 turns around, stares at the guard who fired first, and rapidly begins closing in on the five. No damage is detected on SCP-3398. SCP-3398 then proceeds to slash the guard it was staring at, then proceeds to stare and kill the next one, until all but one of the guards is dead. The sole surviving guard was the also the one who did not fire, showing SCP-3398 will only attack if provoked. SCP-3398 stares at the one remaining soldier, who retreats to the exit and is let out for debrief. SCP-3398 returns to a docile manner and stares at a point on the wall.
Experiment B: Tests on the effects of hazmat suits on SCP-3398's aura
D-4075 is given a full hazmat suit and instructed to approach SCP-3398. The results are the same as Experiment A, proving that hazmat suits do not impair the aura, aside from passing the 20m distance. In this time, D-4075 reports feeling a subtle urge to kill or harm something. This is noted in the books and D-4075 is instructed to proceed. Upon closing to 12m, D-4075 stops giving any reports. When questioned about the silence, D-4075 gives no response. Instead, she continues to move towards SCP-3398, despite orders to hold until an answer is given. Upon getting 5m from SCP-3398, SCP-3398 turns around and stares down D-4075. D-4075 is recalled but refuses to exit the chamber. Instead, she throws herself at SCP-3398. SCP-3398 lashes its right forward paw, scratching D-4075 with its claws and throwing her at the wall. D-4075 is retrieved, sent to the medical ward and then debrief, and the experiment terminated. No further experiments are attempted on SCP-3398.
Addendum:
No person may stay inside SCP-3398’s containment cell for longer than fifteen minutes at a time. Prolonged exposure to SCP-3398’s aura can cause hallucinations of SCP-3398 in the subject. Subjects exposed to SCP-3398’s aura for longer than fifteen minutes will begin to see these hallucinations. They will appear anywhere in the dark and may vanish at any given moment.
Audio Log from SCP-3398 Interview
The following is a log from the first and only interview with SCP-3398. Dr. ██████, a relatively new and young researcher, con
ducted the interview. During the interview, SCP-3398 was discovered to be sentient, and that there are supposedly more like it out there.
<Commence Log>
Dr. ██████: Alrighty. Let’s get this show on the road. Ok. *Flipping of papers*. Tell me where you came from.
SCP-3398: *No response*
Dr. ██████: Come on, answer me.
SCP-3398: *No response*
Dr. ██████: You will answer me. Don’t make me come in there myself and make you talk. Unless you’re just a big dumb animal that can’t talk.
SCP-3398: You won’t do that.
Dr. ██████: Oh my god! You can talk!
SCP-3398: *No response*
Dr. ██████: Ok, uh. Now tell me where you come from.
SCP-3398: That is none of your business. Now you will tell me something.
Dr. ██████: Heh. I don’t think so, buddy. I’m the one asking the questions one here.
SCP-3398: You humans think you are in power.
Dr. ██████: What?
SCP-3398: You heard me. You aren’t in power as a matter of fact.
Dr. ██████: I… I… What are you talking about?
SCP-3398: Humans. So primitive. Do you think you can control me, Dr. 00000?
Dr. ██████: What? How could you possibly know my name?
SCP-3398: Answer my question and I will tell you.
Dr. ██████: Ugh! Fine. What do you want to know?
SCP-3398: How many other dragons have you imprisoned?
Dr. ██████: Dragons? Others?
SCP-3398: That’s right. How many more have you imprisoned like me?
Dr. ██████: I… We… we haven’t discovered any other dragons. You’re the only one. And we haven’t imprisoned you. We’re… just studying you. For future benefit.
SCP-3398: Benefit? Hmph. Humans are always doing something for the benefit of something or another. It’s pointless, however. It won’t work.
Dr. ██████: What?
< End Log >
At that moment, all video and audio receptors cut out, and stayed offline until Dr. ██████ exited the room. The tape was recovered and stored in Archive C once study was complete.
