SCP-4972 is to be housed in a high-security reinforced containment chamber measuring 20m x 20m x 15m at Site-[REDACTED]. The chamber walls are to be lined with heat-resistant materials capable of withstanding temperatures up to 2,000°C. A containment barrier utilizing electromagnetic fields should be active at all times to prevent SCP-4972 from using its thermokinetic abilities to damage the chamber.
All personnel entering the chamber must have Level-4 clearance and wear Level-4 heat-resistant armor with portable temperature regulators. Interaction with SCP-4972 is restricted to essential research personnel only, and any direct communication attempts must be conducted from within a shielded observation room with Site Command’s approval.
In the event of a containment breach, Site-[REDACTED] is to be evacuated, and MTF Theta-9 (“Firebreak”) deployed to recontain SCP-4972. Failure to comply with these protocols will result in immediate disciplinary action.
Description:
SCP-4972 is a large, quadrupedal entity resembling a hybrid between draconic and reptilian species. It stands approximately 5 meters tall at the shoulder with a wingspan measuring 12 meters, though its wings are nonfunctional. Its scales possess a dark metallic sheen, with patches of glowing red and orange that suggest high internal temperatures.
SCP-4972’s primary anomalous ability is the generation and manipulation of extreme heat. It can emit bursts of fire and radiate heat capable of melting most materials within a 5-meter radius. SCP-4972 also exhibits extraordinary durability and regenerative properties, complicating containment efforts.
Despite its volatile nature, SCP-4972 shows a surprising level of intelligence, exploiting weaknesses in containment protocols and demonstrating an understanding of human behavior. It has shown curiosity toward Foundation personnel but remains highly aggressive when it perceives a threat.
Addendum 4972-A: Initial Containment
MTF Delta-9 (“Scalebreakers”) was dispatched after multiple reports of forest fires and unexplained deaths in the [REDACTED] region. SCP-4972 engaged in combat with MTF units, resulting in significant casualties before being subdued using experimental thermal dampening technology. SCP-4972 was transported to Site-[REDACTED] under heavy guard, where containment was successfully established.
SCP-4972 has made several containment breach attempts, each leading to severe structural damage and loss of personnel. Research into neutralizing or controlling its anomalous abilities is ongoing.
