Scan of SCP-5000 on human skin.
Item #: SCP-5000
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Only dozens of specimens have been collected of SCP-5000, both at initial containment. These are kept in one of Biological Research Site-14's refrigerated biohazard containment cells in a freezing medium composed of 12% dimethylsulphoxide, 20% heat inactivated calf serum and axenic medium at -70 degrees Celsius.
Due to the rarity of SCP-5000 samples, tests are to use only one specimen culture instead. Testing is to be authorized and conducted by at least one Level 4 member of on-site research staff. All personnel not designated a test subject are to wear Level A Hazmat suits with SCBA ( Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) before handling any cultures of SCP-5000. Failure to do so will result in termination and subsequent incineration.
Should infections with SCP-5000 be reported outside of Foundation control, a quarantine is to be instated within a ten kilometer radius of the established epicenter. All victims not yet deceased are to be terminated followed by controlled incineration of all bodies. Seemingly uninfected civilians and personnel within the quarantine zone will be detained and monitored. If they develop no symptoms after twenty-four hours, they are to be administered class-A amnestics and relocated. Any individuals that do develop symptoms within that time period are to be terminated and incinerated. A suitable cover story will be circulated to the media.
Description: SCP-5000 is a microscopic bacteria that attacks the human nervous system.
So far there has been no information since when SCP-5000 has been on Earth and how it is formed. SCP-5000 does not need any liquid to reproduce. SCP-5000 does not affect organisms that are not human.
SCP-5000 may spread through air or physical contact. If a victim is contained, the victim will enter three dangerous stages that will cause multiple diseases and lead to death.
I: SCP-5000 enters the victim. Victim will have vital systems normal for 24 hours.
II: Victim begins to act erratic and develop spinal tumors and Parkinson's disease. SCP-5000 will continue to spread and cause meningitis, encephalitis, and polio. Other diseases may occur not limited to: Multiple sclerosis, Bells Palsy, and Guillan-Bare syndrome.
III: Victim has all legs paralyzed. Victim will develop cancer cells at a rapid rate and begin to experience seizures commonly.
IV: Victim will suffer organ failure and brain death.
V: Victim will die from an extreme convulsion.
SCP-5000 has yet no cure to be found. Anti-biotics may help wipe out SCP-5000 specimens but will reproduce unless given in high doses. This depends on how many specimens of SCP-5000 are in a person's body.
No occurrences of SCP-5000 have been observed outside of initial containment, but the bacterium replicates itself rapidly during stages I and II. Infection of new patients occurs primarily by skin-to-skin contact, though evidence exists of infections spreading in situations where no direct contact was observed, making Level A Hazmat equipment a precautionary must when handling any samples of SCP-5000. Furthermore, SCP-5000 has been observed to remain active long after stage III has concluded, with samples of skin showing active cultures of the mutated bacteria for up to █ years after initial infection. It is currently unknown during what period of time removed skin remains an infection hazard.
