SCP-5055

Item: SCP-5055

Object class: Keter

Special containment procedures: all instances of SCP-5055 are currently contained in site 31-B. A perimeter of 10km needs to be established around site 31-B and guarded at all times. Specific magnetic anchors needs to be established at 24 points around the site 31-B to create a magnetic containment field. Miniature nuclear reactor located at site 31-B is the only place within 31-B which isn’t infected with instances of SCP-5055, so it can be used to power these magnetic anchors. Site 31-B and entire containment area must be monitored by using drones and remote control robots. No human personnel members is allowed to enter site 31-B. No more than 20 containment experiments and other foundation members with level 4 clearance or higher are allowed to be within containment perimeter of site 31-B.

Description: every instance of SCP-5055 vaguely resembles a D-class personnel member, researcher or any other foundation members who have died or were killed since foundation started operating. However, these apparitions are slightly transparent and discolored giving them reddish appearance and slight glow. Exact nature or capabilities of every instance of SCP-5055 are unknown, however, they seem to possess at least partial memories of individuals they resemble. Each instance of SCP-5055 is attracted to sentient beings, especially humans. When an instance of SCP-5055 sees or hears anything, it will attempt to make a contact by screaming very low pitch scream and run towards their target. Any sentient being touched by an instance of SCP-5055 will get infected and slowly turned into another instance of SCP-5055. Any and all things with consciousness can be infected by any instance of SCP-5055, which include other SCPs. At the time when first instances of SCP-5055 appeared there were more than 74 other SCP contained within site 31-B. At the time of the last report made in 2018/07/24, at least 7 other sentient SCP become instances of SCP-5055, however, it seems they retain their anomalous qualities even after being transformed into instances of SCP-5055.

Every instance of SCP-5055 is capable to communicate with each other and seems to possess high level of intelligence comparable to individuals they resemble, however, each instance of SCP-5055 is capable to take any form any instance of SCP-5055 currently possess. These abilities make SCP-5055 potentially the most dangerous beings known to the foundation, because it can potentially assimilate all other sentient SCPs within it as well as the rest of humanity.

After several attempts to restrain and isolate instances of SCP-5055, no vulnerabilities of these apparitions were determined. They possess average human strength and average human speed, but they can’t be harmed by any known means. Despite that, they can be contained by a strong magnetic field as they show high level of fear when confronting a strong magnetic field. This might indicate that each instance of SCP-5055 isn’t formed from organic matter, but rather is formed from electromagnetic energy condensed into humanoid form. Although, instances of SCP-5055 should be able to infect and assimilate any kind of animals.

Exact creation of SCP-5055 is unknown. However, it is believed that the first instance of SCP-5055 created during cross testing of SCP-[####] and SCP-[####]. While this theory can’t yet be determined, but apparitions taking form of deceased foundation members would indicate an unknown side-effect of SCP-[####] which was greatly amplified by SCP-[####].

Addendum [5055-a]: in 2019/01/19 a special research and containment team was sent into site 31-B due to malfunction of nuclear reactor within the site. At this point it is unknown what happened to the team sent to fix the reactor, but it seems that reactor returned back to working.

Addendum [5055-B]: spectrometric analysis revealed that each instance of SCP-5055 should mainly be made out from various amounts of Rn-211, Xe-127, Cr-51, I-124, Bi-210 and tiny amounts of other elements, though, exact quantities of these elements can’t be accurately measured. Radioactive decay might explain they glow in the dark, however, radioactivity measuring devices pick up very insignificant levels of radiation from each instance of SCP-5055. In addition, density of each observed instance of SCP-5055 appears to be unproportional to its weight, because, based on spectrometric data, their weight is over three times higher than it should reasonably be. However, this might explain lows level of radiation as most of it would be absorbed within denser body. Despite that, it is still unclear how they retain solid bodies and why they appear slightly transparent.

Addendum [5055-C]: in 2019/01/4 an encrypted message was sent from site 31-B. Message was fully decoded in 2019/01/24. This is the content of the message:
We are not the same. We are different, even if we are the same. We were curious, we wanted to know, now we pay for our arrogance. You collect these things, these beings, but you don’t know why you are doing it. You just follow your orders. We followed our orders as well. Don’t come here, this is an abandoned place, nothing awaits you here. I still remember being one of you, I think we were a researcher doing experiments on things, I think we wanted to look at the edge of reality. We were following orders, but this happened. It didn’t start with me. We had this person, he was sick, an unknown sickness, we tried to understand it and cure it, but it cured us. We all were cured. We were connected, entangled with each other into one big network. Now we know them all, we know their secrets and what they are, we all know us. And at the core of us, there is something we don’t know. Something sinister, something dangerous. It waits, it laugh at our individuality, it will makes us all the same, it will devour the world and leave nothing behind, except itself. It is too late to save us, we are already it. Don’t come here. Leave this place. Pour millions of tons of rock over this place and leave it, abandon it, forget about us as we forget about you. We are ghosts of our own making. There is no redemption for us, and there is no redemption for you. You are doomed for what you did, because we know what you did.
End of message.

After checking documents relating to site 31-B, an entry was found about a man infected by anomalous illness. This is the content of the report:
Date: [########]
Agent name: [#########]
Report: after being sent to [#########], we encountered a man stricken with an unknown sickness. This sickness was determined to be anomalous in nature and about 6 people already died from it at the time of report. This sickness manifest in the patient as higher average temperature, compulsion to steal and hoard things, violent tendencies, anomalous collection of electric charge on patient’s skin. After isolation of patient named [########], we will transfer him to site 31-B.
End of report.

Addendum [5055-D]: one of site 31-B guards was questioned. He was at the site before it was overrun by instances of SCP-5055. Here is transcription of the questioning.
[####]: I am doctor [####]. We are trying to contain anomalous beings in the site 31-B, so any information on them would help.
Guard: Yeah… Of course. Just… Alright, sir. We…. I need to collect myself.
[####]: Take your time. It must be hard to keep calm just after such incident. I was informed that you were found at the exist of the site only three hours ago and you had no time to rest, but we now know nearly nothing about those entities and any information would help.
Guard: I am sorry, but we… I don’t know much. When they see you, then they scream, but it sounds so low pitch, like it made by a whale or a truck… There is no way a human could release this kind sound… I tried to shoot one. It fell on the ground, but not even 5 seconds passed and it stood back up.
[####]: Did it bleed? Have you or anyone else killed any of those beings?
Guard: No, there was no blood. I didn’t even see where the bullet went in. And no, we…I don’t think they can be killed easily. Bullets do not work, knives and other sharp objects do not work. All you can is to slow them down and run as fast as you can.
[####]: Alright. Have about the infection? Have you seen it infecting others?
Guard: No… no, but I have seen people turning into those things. Another guard from C wing got touched. He didn’t tell us, but he knew. After about five hours he started acting strange, arguing with us and shouting at us. Then, soon after we understood what was happening, he started shining in a bright red light, and then he became one of them.
[####]: Was there any signs of infection before that?
Guard: No, he looked and acted normal. Maybe even too normal… He acted by the book, helped others, kept us calm, you could say he acted as a leader, so we were very shocked when he turned.
[####]: You mentioned that he started turning after five hours. How do you know that?
Guard: We were attacked, we barely managed to fight them off. That was the only point when he could have been infected.
[####]: Have you seen anyone being infected but not turning?
Guard: No… We… No, i haven't.
[####]: Alright. So, if you have to determine intelligence of those beings, how would you describe it?
Guard: They are smart… Way too smart. It was as if people just turned into monsters, but their minds remained. They disabled security systems, locked down whole site, we survived only because someone managed to completely destroy whole internal system of the site and sent a distress signal… We were hiding in one of containment cells when everything turned off and doors unlocked. We just run out at stood at the exist to prevent any of those things from escaping… In the end, we did our job… Right?
[####]: Yes, we are happy you survived… So, you mentioned that somebody sabotaged internal systems of the site. Does that include containment system of various anomalous object contained within the site?
Guard: I don’t know… But I guess so. As far as we knew, only nuclear reactor remained operational, because it operates on whole different system…
[####]: Yes, it is. We are lucky that those things didn’t get in into reactor control post, at least yet. So, where are others survivors? You mentioned that you and somebody else managed to escape the facility, but emergency unit only found you at the entrance.
Guard: No… We… I… was alone. All alone. I….
[####]: Alright. I think we learned enough. You can rest now, we will contain those things and fix everything. You have nothing to worry about, because you did well.

Addendum [5055-E]: currently it is estimated that total number of instances of SCP-5055 is about 357. A little bit over 100 foundations members were assimilated into SCP-5055, so it seems that instances of SCP-5055 can multiply in other means that just infecting normal people. It is unknown how they do it or how they take on appearances of deceased foundation members who have died in other sites. However, Doctor [####] proposed an idea that these apparitions could be somehow linked with other anomalous object and beings and through this link they adopt appearances of deceased foundation members. This is not yet determined.
