Object Class: Euclid Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5398 should always be kept in a locker in Site-114. No unauthorized personnel can handle SCP-5398, nor open it or give it to anyone.
SCP-5398 should be kept shut with a code lock, only Level-4 personnel can access SCP-5398 and know the code, any personnel that are not permitted to know anything about SCP-5398 should be terminated by any research personnel immediately.
Description: SCP-5398 is a leatherback book that appears to be an issue of the series “The Hunger Games” and has an image of a flaming ring surrounded by a golden ring. The rest of the book is coloured black, with the name of the book written on the front. The book appears to have no blurb or author written on it, there is no evidence that these pieces of information were removed manually.
SCP-5398 can be lethal if the story is seen by the human eye, anyone who has seen this has the sudden urge to keep reading (see Incident log-A) and will not stop, even if the book has been taken from them, they will do anything to get it back. These people will be called SCP-5398-1. SCP-5398-1 will act aggressively or passively towards the entity that takes the book away, their preferred method of attack is to attempt to strangle the person until they have either passed out or are dead. SCP-5398 can speak and communicate with people while reading the book, (see Interview log-A). Personnel believe that the book is the one speaking, due to the change in SCP-5398-1 voice.
Incident Log-A: Dr. Cimmerian and the test subject are standing outside the temporary containment chamber for the future SCP-5398-1, the subject is numbered D-9872.
Cimmerian: You will take the book out of the locker, enter the code [REDACTED] into the code lock and start reading, got that?
9872: I got it.
D-9872 enters the room, opening the locker and removing the book from the locker. He then places it on the table and enters the correct code.
9872: So, I just start reading? That seems easy.
Cimmerian: It is easy. Come on, get on with it.
D-9873 starts to read, no changes are noticeable yet.
9873: Hey! I’ve read this bo-
Cimmerian: Continue reading D-9873.
They are a few chapters in, there are still no noticeable changes in the subject's mentality.
Cimmerian: this is strange, there should be at least some noticeable change in your behavior.
9873: I don’t know doc; I feel the same as always.
The subject is 13 chapters in, there are now noticeable changes. D-9873 seems to ignore most of what’s going on around them.
Cimmerian: So, D-9873, how do you feel?
9873: Huh? Oh, right, the test. I don’t feel that anything has changed.
Cimmerian: You’ve been ignoring most of my commands.
An intercom alerts the two that they only have a few minutes left.
Cimmerian: Alright D-9873, let’s wrap this up.
Cimmerian enters the chamber, carefully removing the book from D-9873's hands.
9873: HEY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Cimmerian: Our time is up; we need to conclude this.
D-9873 aggressively leaps towards Dr. Cimmerian, pulling them to the ground and attempting to break several of their bones. A Nine Tailed Fox team was instructed to enter the chamber and terminate D-9873. Dr. Cimmerian was left with several injuries on the arms and neck.
