Object Class: Euclid/Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5978 is to be kept in a steel container measuring 0.7x 0.7x 0.7x 0.7x meters at site-[REDACTED]. The container should then be buried █.█ meters underground. The ground above the object should then be covered in a 1.0-meter minimum thick layer of brick. There is to be a support beam directly above the object in with a hazard paint (████████████████████████) on that beam specifically. All support beams (If any) are to be different colors and patterns with the exception of the one above the object. Even if unnecessary there is to ALWAYS be a support beam above the object. This is so that instances of SCP-5978-A are obscured from digging directly above the object. All Personnel is to stay at a distance of at least 3 meters from the object. If an instance of SCP-5978-B occurs, all personnel are to evacuate until MTF (Mobile Task Force) arrives. Once MTF has arrived they are authorized to use an AT-4 HEDT launcher, rigged with a low blast radius grenade, at a safe distance from blast radius and object (3 meters at minimum) to not cause any other harm to personnel or to prevent another instance of SCP-5978-A. Once temporarily contained in an extra steel container, the object is to be moved to another site. This is to prevent any other personnel within a 3-meter distance of the object that became SCP-5978-A during the containment breach to be separated from the object (And because the site around it would be destroyed). All instances of SCP-5978-A or -B are to be terminated. The only recollection or movement of the object outside of containment breaches are to be authorized by Dr.███████.
Description:
SCP-5978 takes the appearance of a stovepipe hat. Its base measures 0.45 meters in diameter with the top of the hat measuring 0.6 meters. Many personnel who have viewed the object to look similar to that of the hat of [DATA REDACTED]. The hat has a piece of silky maroon cloth tied to the back with the ends of the rectangular cloth draping over the base in the back. The rest of the hat a black color. The material on the inside seems to be the same material as the cloth tied atop the base. The material outside is more a cheap material found in what witnesses describe as "The type of material found in a hat form a dollar general, or dollar store." On the right side of the hat, there is writing on a notecard covered by the cloth with the words "Hvem liker ikke litt galskap?" translated from Norwegian to "Who does not like a bit of madness?" The notecard from here on out will be called SCP-5978-2. The subject who reads the note through video or in-person will, therefore, be known as SCP-5978-2-J
SCP-5978-A: Subjects who become instances of SCP-5978-A by not obeying warnings to stay 3 meters away from the subject become numb to any pain or emotion. After further research conducted by Dr.████████, he has concluded that -A has one set goal, that is to find the hat and wear it. Once again, once symptoms have been verified, personnel, if armed, are to neutralize the subject. If emotions prevent you from doing so, call MTF to do the job. DO NOT MAKE CONTACT WITH SUBJECT. YOU HAVE FEELINGS. IT DOES NOT. If you are unarmed, call MTF or Site Security immediately to terminate the target.
SCP-5978-B SCP-5978-B occurs when the instance of SCP-5978-A reaches and acquires
SCP-5978. After acquiring the object, -B will then place the hat atop its head. Once the subject wears the object, they will gain increased;

-Perception
-Endurance
-Strength
All personnel are to evacuate the area around -B to avoid physical harm brought by the subject. If SCP-5978-B does occur, ALL PERSONNEL ARE TO EVACUATE. DO NOT ENGAGE HOSTILE. You are to wait in the nearest shelter until MTF has neutralized the subject. SCP-5978-B once engaged other personnel will attack by ███████ their █████ off and ████████ there █████ on the walls. After doing so, the subject will call what's left of the attacked personnel "A work of art." The subjects also express extreme humor and laugh maniacally. Their pupils grow wide and eyes become bloodshot, veins pop out and are more visible. Some test have shown the eyeballs ███████.

SCP-5978-2-J Occurs when personnel views SCP-5978-2 by reading the writing on the notecard.
Subject will begin laughing maniacally and express extreme humor and attempt to terminate itself. If any personnel attempt to stop the subject, the subject will not change its emotions or activities but will terminate the personnel who halts his actions. The subject does so by ███████ open the lower abdomen and proceeds to ███ and ████ open major arteries and ███ the subjects █████████ and other major organs. once the targeted personnel has been confirmed to have been neutralized, the subject will proceed to self-terminate.

Capt. █████: What do think? It was ripping people to shreds. It was ██████████████████████████████████████████████.
Dr: I see. Final question. Why did you order the retreat of your men?

Capt. █████: I gave the order after realizing the "geniuses" at the tech division forgot to arm the round fired from the AT-4 HEDT with an explosive. It went into its stomach and the thing tore it out like a splinter. It looked so human, it's not though. its a monster. Anyways, I looked around for any sort of other MTF and found an open door checkpoint to run to and trap the thing. When I turned around,
[Visible emotional distress is noted as tears develop and stream down the Capt. face.]
Capt.█████: It had already torn my entire squad to pieces. I ran for my life after that through the checkpoint. Sealed the door. A few seconds pass by and the Nine-Tailed Fox appeared. Took out the thing. Lucky them. They had the working round.

5-14-1996 - ████ RECORDS: At 9:36 pm the ████ got a call from a distressed woman filling a missing person report. The woman said "My husband dropped ████ off at █████████ Dr. one (1) days prior for a sleepover. The following morning my son had called our house phone saying 'Me and █████ are gonna walk around town and later take a walk through some woods. Could I be picked up at around, I would say, 7:00 pm?' I said sure like a good mother. Come 7:00 and my husband goes to pick up our son. He gets there and my husband says 'The first thing I saw when I got out of the car was ██████ parents. They ran up to me, took me by the arm, and I noticed a coppery smell and a red liquid on the husband's arms. He leads me to the backyard of their house where their son's dismantled course is. They told me they called the police already. When I asked who did this they told me the most unbelievable shit. They told me 'Your son from hell did this! We saw him rip up our son with this maniacal laugh all while wearing this stupid hat!" After that, he ran into the woods.' That's all he told me." The police immediately send a search party for the son and a team over to the house where the murder happened. An autopsy on what was left on the body to be performed on the 20th of May.
5-20-1996 - ████ RECORDS- UPDATE: Three (3) days after the murder of █████ Rob████ and the disappearance of the suspected murderer ████ Bake█████, ████ was found at an abandoned house laughing maniacally. Police told the young boy to stand on his knees with his hands behind his head. The boy lunged at the officer and ripped his jaw off. Other police fired bullets on the boy to little to no effect. The following day when only one officer had returned covered in blood, he said his entire team had been killed by that "thing." Another team of S.W.A.T went to the scene to confirm that the team was in fact dead. The boy was still in that abandoned house laughing at the door with excitement. Police immediately shot the boy. Once they realized the boy was not affected by the bullet, the order was given to retreat. This was the last time police were sent to look for the boy.
5-20-1996 - ████ RECORDS - AUTOPSY: It was discovered during the autopsy that parts of the victim's organs had chunks missing or were missing overall. With how messy the area around the missing chunk was, it was concluded that ████ had been eating it. Traces of ████ saliva were also found.
6-6-1996 - SITE SECURITY LOG A boy covered in blood was spotted 20 meters away from facility gates. A team of MTF was sent to bring the boy in for custody. MTF was told that there was a suspicion of a new SCP causing madness, mental and physical, and were cautious as the boy covered in blood had been wearing a stovepipe hat. When MTF arrived a\the boy lunged at the car and broke the bulletproof windows. MTF immediately shot at the boy. One guard had picked up anAT-4 HEDT launcher and aimed it at the target. The round had been fired it went straight through the target's skull with little to no effort. After a few moments, all four MTF became instances of SCP-5978-A. An MTF drone sent from the facility caught the MTF fighting each other, when one of them would touch the hat hey all fought. no members survived the fight. The drone once back at the facility was equipped with a tool to pick up and bring the hat back to the facility. The scientist immediately went over footage from the drone prior and realized they were all instances of SCP-5978-A when they were roughly 3 meters away from the object. Scientists set up a temporary containment in a hole roughly 3 meters down. The drone dropped the package into the hole where scientists then covered it in dirt and placed an indicator above so personnel know where the subject is.
1-25-1997: A new containment area was set up for the object. Construct vehicles were used to dig out the SCP all personnel went as far away from the path taken to get to the containment as a drone was used to bring it to containment. ONce at containment, the object was dropped into a steel box, which was then pushed into the hole fitting its size.
2-14-1997: THe object was successfully covered up and a steel beam was placed above the object.
3-14-2016 A containment breach involving a large destructive SCP occurred at around 4:12 am. The SCP had destroyed the ceiling above him in which was also where SCP-5978 was being held. Multiple instances of SCP-5978-A occurred but most were neutralized by MTF and security guards. The rest were neutralized when once instance of SCP-5978-A found SCP-5978 and began to wear the hat. Immediately the target gained increased strength, speed, perception, and endurance. Multiple casualties were inflicted. One team of MTF who arrived on the scene were unsuccessful at neutralizing the target. The projectile fired from the AT-4 HEDT had not been equipped with a low blast radius grenade. Capt. █████ was the only survivor. Seconds later after the Capt. retreat a team of Nine-Tailed Fox arrived at the checkpoint and successfully terminated the subject. Days later SCP-5978 was transported to [DATA REDACTED]. This event will now be nicknamed SCP-# Incident-J.12
