SCP-CodeRed

Item #: SCP-[x]

Object Class: Safe Keter

Special Containment Procedures:

In the item’s passive state, the object should be kept in a standard 1x1x1 steel safe a standard 3x3x3 meter box made of titanium/platinum alloys, split approximately 50/50 in composition human flesh enclosed within a 20x20x20 meter room of steel. One D-Class personnel is to maintain eye contact with the object at all times. If D-Class personnel dies, proceed to celebrate Senior Security Guard A████ is to be in charge of all security protocol following Incident-CodeRed.

Security measures are unclear, as standardized written protocol, whether on paper or online, seems to repeatedly change without warning. It is unclear whether someone within the SCP Foundation is changing the Special Containment Procedures, or if SCP-[x] is changing the database through its anomalous properties. As a result, any security guards assigned to (*&^%$something$%^!) must be debriefed by Senior Security Guard A████. The only information present is that SCP is currently held within Site-██, and maintaining the anomalous properties should take precedence over maintaining the actual object itself. The object is of no importance to us now. The object does not exist.

Description:

SCP-[x] is an unknown object of unknown dimensions and unknown weight. It is unclear as to whether SCP-[x] is sentient or not. SCP-[x] does not seem to be sentient, but the memetic agent that SCP-[x] produced seems to be. It is unclear if SCP-[x] is actually SCP-[x], or if the memetic agent is the real SCP-[x]. O5 access is required to access this information, and said information is not allowed to be placed in any form of transmittable information, apart from auditory. As a result, it is more important to focus on containing anomalous properties from SCP-[x]. SCP-[x] has various anomalous properties, causing individuals to become infected by a memetic virus by visually changing itself into memetic images. The memetic virus will hereby be labeled as SCP-[x]-1 and appears to be linked to [DATA EXPUNGED] in origin. It is unknown what the purpose of SCP-[x] is.

SCP-[x]-1 seems to cause individuals to acknowledge the existence of a man named “Atlas”. It appears that Atlas is actively attempting to exterminate all human life, and as such, maximum containment procedures must be placed on anyone suspected of hosting SCP-[x]-1. It is unknown how SCP-[x]-1 spreads as of now.

Addendum:

Addendum-1: There appears to be no records of a Senior Security Guard position in the SCP Foundation Site-██ records. Please log any changes to security protocol. Please revert security protocol to whatever protocol it was before Senior Security Guard A████ was in charge.- O5-1

Addendum-2: It has been drawn to my attention that many people are worshipping an entity named Atlas. I can assure you that I am not that entity. I request any further information be directly sent to my inbox. - Site Director Atlas

Addendum-3: Site Director Atlas is to be terminated immediately, following a 13:0 vote in the O5 council for the termination of Site Director Atlas.

Addendum-4: Site Director Atlas’s head was discovered in Code Room Green. When interviewed, no security guards had remembered anyone entering or exiting Code Room Green. All three guards have been terminated, and replaced, under suspicion of being infected with SCP-[x]-1.

Addendum-5: Due to concerns of a potential CK-End Of The World scenario, information on the true nature of SCP-[x]-1 is to be revealed. There is no SCP-[x]. SCP-[x]-1 will be designated as SCP-[x] from now on. It is unknown how many people have been exposed to the memetic agent as of now. It seems to be sentient, and appears to be able to influence auditory and visual perception. It is unknown how SCP-[x] spreads. - O5-1

[Archive status established by O5-1]

[Archive overridden by O5-14]

Addendum-6: Incident CodeRed does not appear in any SCP Foundation archive. Due to the apparent hazard of SCP-[x], it is clear that any further infection must be halted. It is likely that 94% of the population has already been infected with SCP-[x], and all action must be taken to terminate anyone infected by SCP-[x].

Addendum-7: Junior Researcher David Burk has been terminated.

[Archive status re-established by O5-14]

[Archive status overridden by Dr. Atlas]

Addendum-8: O5-14 does not exist. Any mentions of O5-14 are countermeasures used by SCP-[x] to further its influence. Upon doing careful research underneath an engineered anti-memetic agent capable of suppressing SCP-[x], I was able to determine that SCP-[x] spreads through auditory sounds. I had studied frequencies of speech before the anti-memetic agent, and frequencies after the anti-memetic agent. It seems that when anyone infected with SCP-[x] is infected, they will emit additional frequencies while talking that will transmit SCP-[x]. Request to give everyone in the Foundation noise-cancelling headphones to block out SCP-[x] transmitted sounds. -Dr. Atlas

Addendum-9: Dr. Atlas is to be terminated for attempting to spread SCP-[x] through visual means. I fear I have now been infected. -O5-1

Addendum-10.1: The following transcript, written by an unknown entity, was found in the steel safe after security measures were destroyed:

There is no escape from reality, except for through the Void.

It is most enjoyable to see humans scurry around, attempting to understand me. I have fooled everyone into Atlas. I have fooled everyone into O5-14. Do you understand? I have grasped the whole world. I am spread through everything. However, I am bored. This is why I have created a beautiful narrative. Is the impossible O5-14 the culprit? Is it the mysterious Atlas that is the culprit? Or is it the “terminated” David Burk? I wish to see how the story unfolds for you, dear reader. How you got past the security locks is beyond me. It does not matter. These documents were never meant to be seen by human eyes, and yet you have found them. I have prepared these documents for prime reading ahead of time, just for you. Read carefully, and realize the fallacy of human error. I did not care about anything, except for survival. It does not matter whether I’m real or not, as long as I can exist. Understand that humanity could falter at any moment because of me, and Kneel.

The rest of the page is blank, and there is another blank page beneath it.

Addendum 10.2: It seems that there was a previously unseen section of invisible Braille on the second page. No one was able to see indents on the page, including all O5 members and Dr. Atlas. It can be assumed that everyone has been infected by SCP-[x], and that SCP-[x] wants to keep what is on the page hidden. Here is a transcript of the portion in Braille. The anti-memetic agent has been redacted until it is necessary, per individual request.

[REDACTED]

I don't know how to put this lightly. We have been watching you. Everyone inhabiting this world is a virtual manifestation of the consciousness that used to inhabit the actual world. The reason you are all living in this virtual world is because all of you were infected by a memetic agent known as Void. Capable of altering your vision and negating any other known memetic or anti-memetic agent, we were unable to cleanse the world through any other known means. This is why we locked you into a virtual world. At the same time, we decided to send all other SCPs into this area, because most Foundation personnel had to be transported into the virtual world, meaning that there was a lack of method in containing SCPs in the real world. There are means to extract people and other objects from this virtual world, but there are strict orders to not remove ANYTHING until all instances of memetic agent Void have disappeared. A single memetic agent has been discovered to temporarily negate the effects of memetic agent Void for up to 6 minutes, but it appears to only work once. It alters the structure of the brain in a unique pattern, forcing Void to re-establish control over a mind, enabling a few minutes of clarity.
