Introduction
This SCP-Foundation approved manual contains the procedures, details and risks surrounding work related to the anomaly classified as SCP-9543.
SCP-9543
Object Class:
Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-9543 requires a holding bay 500x500x500m, the interior of which is walled with a layer of thick white ceramic rock, reinforced with an exterior of steel.
Description:
SCP-9543 is a multicoloured gelatinous mass resembling a giant squid. The body is a soft cone that pulses with the motion of its breath. In the centre of the body are two eyes measuring 2 metres in diameter each, with a third smaller eye centred above them. SCP-9543 measures 11m in height, with long slimly appendages that extend from 10 to up to 30 metres in length.
SCP-9543 possesses primitive intelligence: a basic understanding of tools such as the use of paintbrushes; a low-pitched howling noise it makes on occasion resemblant of wolves; and a basic dialect which is currently being studied and replicated by SCP-Scientists in attempts to establish communication with SCP-9543, but with little to no success.
SCP-9543 is currently contained within the Foundation’s Site B, where it enjoys a lifestyle of painting on the ceramic walls of its containment bay using colourful goo it secretes. For food, SCP-9543 survives on a diet of Blick Studio Acrylic Paint which is to be three times a day in amounts of 50 litres. SCP-9543 is classified a a Euclid anomaly, meaning it is not dangerous- as it is not yet known whether the intelligence of SCP-9543 possesses malicious intent - aside from its creation of SCP-9543-a. Therefore, all personnel studying SCP-9543 must undergo regular checks for instances of SCP-9543-a.
SCP-9543-a Description:
Hours after SCP-9543 howls, it has been noted that organisms within and surrounding Site B are affected by instances of SCP-9543-a. SCP-9543-a is a slime-like substance which grows on the skin of plants and animals and is brightly coloured in appearance. The colour of SCP-9543-a appears in one of any known colours. The reason and outcome of the colour of SCP-9543-a has not been linked to any discernible cause, and the process by which it spreads and is caused remains a mystery.
Onsite personnel contaminated with SCP-9543-a have been studied over the period of one week and were noted to have experienced major injuries as a result of exposure. Infections begin on skin level, before spreading deeper into the body after a matter of hours. The bones of the infected are coloured the same pigment as SCP-9543-a. Four days after infection, the infected subjects will began screaming uncontrollably, expressing they felt pain in the wound. Yet, after a medical examination of the subject, no physical injury or damage was present. After one week, all subjects suicided due to suffering extreme mental trauma.
Visiting Personnel to Site B
A team of research personnel will be dispatched to discern the cause behind the hazardous SCP-9543-a. The team will enter the holding bay of SCP-9543-a to collect samples from the colourful goo of SCP-9543. The team will consist of 20 members in total.
Medical Examination
All personnel arriving for study of SCP-9543 must undergo a medical examination upon their arrival to Site B. The purpose of the medical examination is to ensure no instances of SCP-9543-a are present and that personnel are in prime health.
Requirements:
To be eligible for the medical examination, personnel must have equipped their:
o SCP-Foundation ID
o SCP-Foundation serial code
o passport and driver’s license
o medical examination number
Medical Examination Procedures
Upon arriving at Site B, all personnel will be directed to a login screen within the medbay waiting room of Site B. In the med bay waiting room, personnel will scan their four forms of ID at the login screen in order to be granted access to the examination waiting room.
Personnel will enter the examination waiting room before being directed to the examination rooms. Personnel will enter the examination room respective to their sex to await a health professional. As part of the medical examination, all personnel will be required to remove all items of clothing, except their underwear.
- Men will be required to undress to their underwear and line-up to await the health professional.
- Women will be required to undress to their bra and underwear and line-up to await the health professional.
The health professional will enter the room to conduct the full medical examination. During the medical examination, the health professional will study personnel’s:
o sight
o hearing
o smell
o taste
o heartbeat
o breathing
The health professional will also conduct a skin check and perform a thorough study of personnel’s body to search for instances of SCP-9543-a. Personnel’s arms, backs; legs; hands and feet; necks and shoulders; ears and hair; and chests will be searched for abnormalities. All female personnel will be required to remove their bras for the skin check.
Any personnel found bearing an instance of SCP-9543-a will be taken to the Site B Surgical Ward to have instances surgically removed. They will later be recommended to Site B Psychiatrics Ward for a standard Foundation psychological evaluation.
It is of vital importance that all personnel entering Site B must undergo the Ishihara colour perception test before a trained medical professor and continue the test twice daily prior to their arrival.
Once the medical examination, skin check, and the Ishihara colour perception test have been completed, all personnel will be permitted to dress and move to the mission briefing facilities of Site B.
Personnel who fail to complete any aspect of the whole medical examination will not be permitted to continue further onto Site B.
Mission Briefing
Personnel will be directed to the Site B Briefing Room where Doctor Schnyder and Lieutenant Bane will give an overview of the mission.
The number of personnel will be divided into six equal groups, and 2 teams will be created to investigate the exterior and interior of Site B.
Site B Interior Team:
Pair 1: Collect samples of goo from walls of the holding bay of SCP-9543.
Pair 2: Attempt to establish communications with SCP-9543 using pieces of collected dialect. (Establishing communications successfully will enable further research of SCP-9543-a through interviews and questioning of SCP-9543).
Pair 3: Collect testing rats from SCP-9543 to test for instances of SCP-9543-a, and the severity of infection as well as the psychological effects SCP-9543-a has on the rodents.
And Site B Exterior Team:
Pair 1: Perform a sweep of the western half of Site B’s surrounding forest to search for instances of SCP-9543-a and list the distance they exist from SCP-9543.
Pair 2: Perform a sweep of the eastern half of Site B’s surrounding forest to search for instances of SCP-9543-a and list the distance they exist from SCP-9543.
Pair 3: Monitor CCTV cameras and radar to detect anomalies in the forest, flora, and fauna at the time of SCP-9543’s howling and continue observing for up to 12 hours afterwards.
Operations will proceed for a maximum of 5 months unless revisions are made.
If any one of the visiting personnel become infected with SCP-9543-a during their time at Site B, all accompanying personnel will be required to undergo an immediate skin check by an onsite health professional.
Containment Breach of SCP-9543 and Risks Associated with the Mission
The breach of containment of any anomalies is a matter of global prominence.
In every mission at the Foundation, there are several risks which must be accounted for to protect the integrity of the SCP Foundation. This section highlights emergency protocols for each level of containment breach presented by SCP-9543 towards visiting personnel, Site B, the SCP Foundation, and the world.
Level 1 – actions of SCP-9543 lead to the injury or death of onsite and/or visiting personnel.
In the event of slaughter of any onsite or visiting personnel at the hands of SCP-9543 within the confinements its ceramic holding bay will result in an immediate evacuation of the Site B Interior Team from the holding bay. The Site B Interior Team will be required to resume the mission the following day when replacement team members will be supplied from outside Site B.
As SCP-9543 is a sentient being, a punishment system will be executed to encourage cooperative behaviour, and onsite personnel tasked with feeding SCP-9543 will be instructed to dispense 20 litres of Blick Studio Acrylic Paint into the holding bay rather than the daily 50 litres.
Level 2 – SCP-9543 attacks, injures, or kills, onsite and/or visiting personnel from outside of the holding bay.
A level 2 containment breach calls for deployment of SCP military personnel around the perimeter of SCP-9543’s holding bay. Military personnel will be armed with riot shields and tasers to repel SCP-9543 from further attack. The goal will be to return SCP-9543 to within its confinements, and to protect the Site B Interior Team from harm as they are evacuated from the holding bay.
Level 3 – SCP-9543 intentionally infects Site B with SCP-9543-a.
The purpose of the mission is to discover the cause behind SCP-9543-a and uncover the missing information on the workings of the substance. Therefore, it is important to remember that SCP-9543 might unleash SCP-9543-a at any time.
In such a scenario, an immediate full-scale evacuation of Site B is to be imitated. All onsite and visiting personnel are to be relocated to the nearest Foundation outpost for medical treatment and psychological evaluation. The surrounding forest – and the local flora and fauna - is to be incinerated by SCP military personnel equipped with flamethrowers in order to widespread infection of SCP-9543-a. It is vital that SCP-9543 remains unharmed at all times, and that it continues to be studied daily by visiting personnel.
Level 4 – An SCP-9543 containment breach of the holding bay and into the surrounding forest of Site B.
All onsite and visiting personnel are to be evacuated to the nearest Foundation outpost. SCP military personnel will protect the perimeter of Site B to contain SCP-9543 within Site B. Additional military personnel will be dispatched to the forest to capture SCP-9543 with net cannons and relocate it to the holding bay.
Level 5 – An SCP-9543 containment breach of Site B and off Foundation property.
In the most serious case of a successful breach of SCP-9543 from Foundation property, a full-scale operation will be conducted by the SCP military personnel following a full-scale evacuation of Site B.
It is a matter of SCP Foundation integrity that the existence of all anomalies remains hidden from the public. Intentional fires will be started in forest are surrounding Site B to simulate a forest fire, calling for swift evacuation of all residential areas within a 50km radius. Any witnesses to the existence of SCP-9543 will be taken to the nearest SCP outpost and forced to undergo a medical examination and skin check to search for instances of SCP-9543-a, and will be treated to Class-A amnestic mind erasure prior to their release.
