Item #: SCP - ####
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:
The perimeter of SCP - #### is to be monitored by automated surveillance and a group of 20 guards, rotated every six months to prevent the effects of long term exposure to SCP - #### (See Addendum-2) if exposure lasts seven months or more the exposed subject is to be designated as Class E personnel and kept off site until recovery or confirmation of Stage 3 or higher Glacies Syndrome. Only personnel with clearance level 3 or higher are allowed to let various persons in or out of the perimeter of SCP - ####. Any persons leaving SCP - #### without record of going into SCP - #### are to be immediately detained and designated Class E personnel until confirmed unafflicted, where they will be interrogated, given class A or B amnestic, and then released, unless Protocol 12 is active, where instead of being released the person will be designated Class-D, and be given the appropriate amnestic.
Description:
SCP - #### is a town of 429 people instances of SCP - ####-A, and 19 instances of SCP - ####-C, deep in the Rocky Mountains in [Redacted] National Park, Colorado. The main urban section of SCP - #### consists of 218 small (60sq. meter) residences, and various other buildings one would find in a town of similar size to SCP - #### excluding the apparent town hall, designated SCP - ####-B, built in a Graeco-Roman style of architecture, where 383 instances of SCP - ####-A have been seen to go in, and leave with a firearm of seemingly random make, though consistently seen to be firearms used during World War One, excluding 19 Beretta M9 Pistols used by guards in incident SCP - ####-1. The various firearms include (with a 68% increase in firearms taken from SCP - ####-B since Incident SCP - ####-2):
-679 M1917 Enfield Bolt action rifles.
483/679 taken post Incident SCP - ####-2
-194 Colt Model 1898 Revolvers.
68/195 taken post Incident SCP - ####-2
-147 Browning Auto-5 Shotguns.
98/147 taken post Incident SCP - ####-2
-19 Beretta M9 Pistols.
19/19 taken post Incident SCP - ####-2
-18 Mk 1 Hand grenades.
18/18 taken post Incident SCP - ####-2
-8 Browning M1917 Heavy machine guns.
8/8 taken post Incident SCP - ####-2
-1 Stokes Mortar (3-inch).
1/1 taken post Incident SCP - ####-2
SCP - ####-A
SCP - ####-A are humanoid entities that have an appearance of an early 20th century mountaineer, with a WWI era gas mask as the head/face, with minor variation based on the individual. It is also notable that the clothing leaves no skin visible, and seems to be a part of their body, in a way similar to SCP - 049’s clothes and mask.
Instances of SCP - ####-A appear to anomalously replenish their numbers via use of SCP - ####-B if an instance of SCP - ####-A is killed, although are very difficult to be killed when within a 1 mile radius of SCP - ####-B, though becoming more vulnerable the further they are from SCP - ####-B, and will be rendered unconscious once 3 miles away from SCP - ####-B as seen during Incident SCP - ####-2 with an instance of SCP - ####-A captured during combat that died of blood loss, the blood observed to be extremely cold.
Instances of SCP - ####-A will tire faster the warmer the climate, being rendered effectively immobile at temperatures of 32 degrees celsius or higher. Temperatures higher than 32 degrees seem to have no further effect.
SCP - ####-B
SCP - ####-B is the apparent town hall of SCP - ####, built in a Graeco-Roman style of architecture, where instances of SCP- ####-A have been seen to generate from in order to replace their numbers. SCP - ####-B is also highly resistant to damage, having easily survived a shot from an RPG to one of the front pillars during Incident SCP - ####-2.
SCP - ####-C
SCP - ####-C is visually the same as SCP - ####-A, though with modern equivalents of the ‘clothing’ that comprises them, most notably with a modern double filter gas mask, instead of a WWI era single filter gas mask. Instances of SCP - ####-C all used to be human, but through long term exposure (See section ‘Long term exposure’) became SCP - ####-C. Instances of SCP - ####-C have been observed to have an unknown range of movement, theorized to not be limited by proximity to SCP - ####-B, though will tire faster the warmer the climate, being rendered effectively immobile at temperatures of 38 degrees celsius or higher. Temperatures higher than 38 degrees seem to have no further effect.
Incident Log:
Three Foundation personnel make initial contact after with SCP - #### after 2 years of observation, meeting five armed instances of SCP - ####-A within a mile of SCP - ####-B, who have their weapons holstered. All five instances are designated SCP - ####-A-1 through 5
SCP - ####-A-1, “Who are you?”
Dr. Clarkson, “I am Dr. Clarkson, with the Foundation, and you are?”
SCP - ####-A-1, “What is the Foundation?”
Dr. Clarkson, “That is.. irrelevant at the momen-” He is cut off by a loud snap in the woods, to which SCP - ####-A-2 unholsters his gun, prompting a guard with Dr. Clarkson, who presumably did not hear the snap, to fire 6 rounds from his pistol before being shot in the head by SCP - ####-A-3. The second guard, being caught unaware aims at SCP - ####-A-3 late, and is shot in the head twice by SCP - ####-A-4. Dr. Clarkson is spared by the instances of SCP - ####-A, presumably because he is unarmed. Dr. Clarkson is subsequently taken hostage inside of SCP - ####-B.
Note: Incident SCP - ####-1 was seen from the perimeter, and audio recordings of the interaction were recovered from the deceased guards.
[Data Corrupt]
Summary written by Dr. McBoyd, Dr. Clarkson’s successor.
In an attack led by N/MTF forces to rescue Dr. Smith many N/MTF personnel are engaged in urban guerilla warfare by instances of SCP - ####-A. The climax of the battle taking place near SCP - ####-B, where a stray RPG shot hits the building, after which Dr. Clarkson is brought out of SCP - ####-B, and executed in front of N/MTF forces via a shot to the head. Upon the death of Dr. Clarkson N/MTF forces retreat, no longer having an objective, and return to the perimeter of SCP - ####.
Video feed begins at the POV of a cadet, watching N/MTF enter before entering himself to check on the progress of Glacies Syndrome in the 20 guards, using heat vision to see any subjects. Once the unit enters a hallway leading to the bunk room the unit is fired on, ending with a lieutenant killed. Upon entry to the bunk room the source of the gun fire is not found, and the unit continues in the direction of the cafeteria. Upon entry to the cafeteria a fragmentation grenade lands in the midst of the unit, that is suspected to have been picked up off of the lieutenant’s corpse by an afflicted guard. Before the grenade detonates the cadet whose POV is viewed in the video, grabs the grenade and goes to throw it away from the unit, though the grenade explodes in his hand, damaging his forearm and hand beyond repair, but not being lethal due to armor and a tourniquet. The unit retreats back outside to prevent any further casualties, and a few minutes later the cadet is seen airlifted out, from a different camera feed before the video ends.
Stage 0: Unafflicted
Stage 1: Average body temperature lowers 1 degree celsius, and skin becomes slightly more pale.
Stage 2: Average body temperature lowers 5 degrees from Stage 0 temperature, causing occasional severe shivers, and skin becomes noticeably pale, however signs of hypothermia expected at such a low core temperature do not appear. Stage 2 is the highest safe stage of affliction.
Stage 3: Average body temperature lowers to 7 degrees celsius, skin becomes very white in color, with Stage 3 being colloquially called ‘Snow White Syndrome’. At Stage 3, all shivers stop, and the afflicted no longer feel cold. Blood pressure increases minorly at Stage 3 as well. At Stage 3 and further all effects are permanent. At Stage 3 original guards requested to be rotated out, due to concern of their affliction
Stage 4: Average body temperature lowers to 4 degrees celsius, skin starts to become leathery in places. At Stage 4 the first guard rotation, hereby designated SCP - ####-C, started demanding to be rotated out, and an N/MTF task force was brought in to keep them contained in the perimeter facility, on orders of Dr. Clarkson in order to observe the full effects of the affliction, hereby called Glacies Syndrome, Glacies meaning ‘Ice’ in Latin.
Stage 5: Average body temperature same as Stage 4, skin becomes a soft leather all over except for the face. With the lower jaw elongating, eye sockets widening, and the eyes themselves becoming black, but with SCP - ####-C still being able to see well, and in cases of subjects with less than 20/20 vision, they no longer needed glasses or contacts, now having 20/20 vision.
Stage 6: Unknown, due to SCP - ####-C hiding themselves inside the facility, leading to Incident SCP - ####-C-1, ending with one dead N/MTF and another N/MTF evacuated by helicopter due to injuries. It is suspected that Stage 6 causes an increase in dopamine production, as SCP - ####-C are suspected to suffer from possible Schizophrenia.
Stage 7: SCP - ####-C become nearly indistinguishable from instances of SCP - ####-A, except for a difference in the type of gas mask, with SCP - ####-A being WWI era single filter gas masks, and SCP - ####-C being modern double filter gas masks, though in both instances the glass or lens are opaque, but do not hinder vision. Body temperature at Stage 7 becomes indistinguishable from the environment, making thermal vision in combat ineffective, if not detrimental, as seen in Incident SCP - ####-C-1. The torso of an instance of SCP - ####-C is a Modern trench coat, compared to SCP - ####-A’s WWI era trench coat, the same modern to WWI era distinction includes the hands (gloved), feet (being boots), and head (gas mask and Ushanka or similar hat most commonly, also physically a part of SCP - ####-A and C). The variations in hat types seems to be a factor in differences of individuals, with 28 types observed.
Note: Body temperature listings are an average of the data available.
Addendum:
Addendum-1: Instances of SCP - ####-A are generated at an average size and stature for an adult (20-30 years of age) human male, and are assumed to be non-aging, with no instances dying inside of age during observation.
Addendum-2: Long term exposure to SCP - #### has been observed in the first rotation of 20 guards, before the six month rotations were implemented to the containment procedures. The affliction has been named Glacies Syndrome (See above graph of exposure data.)
Addendum-2a: It is noted that at Stage 7 SCP - ####-C become compliant and no longer suffer from Schizophrenia, though they wish to go and live in SCP - #### than return to the foundation in 90% of cases, citing that they would integrate better with SCP - #### than with the Foundation, but will attack anyone who tries to physically force them to stay. The other 10%, Dr. McBoyd and a guard, H████, stayed on site, and are exempt from the six month rotations.
Addendum-3: Instances of SCP - ####-A have become completely non-compliant to foundation personnel (Excluding unarmed Class-D personnel, who they kidnap.). After Incident SCP - ####-2, instances of SCP - ####-A now immediately open fire on any armed Foundation personnel, shooting to kill.
Addendum-4: After Kidnapping and imprisonment inside SCP - ####-B, Class-D are released as an instance of SCP - ####-C.
Addendum-5: Becoming an instance of SCP - ####-C does not seem to affect the subject mentally, outside of what is expected from someone who has completely physically changed species.
Addendum-5a: after multiple questions from multiple site guards relating to Addendum-5, Dr. McBoyd has named the SCP - ####-A and C species Homo Glacies, latin for ‘Ice Man’.
Addendum-6: Current state of SCP - #### is that there is a small trench network surrounding the urban part of SCP - ####, manned at all hours by SCP - ####-A and occasionally an instance of SCP - ####-C, who are more passive than instances of SCP - ####-A, though will still fight on the side of SCP - ####.
