Charlie suddenly wakes up to the rough jab at his shoulder.
"Wake up newbie, we're coming up on the target area."
Charlie looks up from his slumped position to see his new teammate, "Oni". Charlie would call him by his name, but the only person that knows anything about him is his friend "Jester" but he won't say. Says if he tells, Oni'll have his head.
"Not quite sure how true that is but I'll take his word for it." Charlie thinks to himself.
"Ah give Vill a break, Oni. He's fresh out of selection he'll grow into it." Charlie's other teammate "Blaze" chimes in, slapping Charlie on the back.
Charlie is sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall of the helicopter. The red light of the helicopter dimly lights Oni's mask, shining bright and contrasting the dark area. The blood painted on his mask was enough to scare the enemy to death. Charlie once asked Oni why he painted blood on his mask and he had simply replied with "Back in '99, Operation Windchimer. That's all you need to know." That was all he needed to know.
"Five minutes." The pilot at the front of the helicopter says.
The team leader "Shen" gave the pilot a thumbs up and returns to the cabin.
"Five minutes." He relays.
Oni gives him a thumbs up and unbuckles his harness.
Charlie checks his gear and prepares to enter SCP-1265.
Oni stares at Charlie for a moment.
"Don't worry kid. We'll just be taking a stroll through the jungle 65,000,000 years ago. I've got your back."
A crackling comes over the team radio.
"This is a joint operation Echo Force, you'll be working with Foxtrot Squad on this one. Need I remind you the importance of your mission. You must extract Dr. Laswood and his assistant Dr. Steen as soon as possible. They have valuable information for the O5 Council and we have an unidentified GOI task force closing in on them. You also have the SCP-1265 entities to deal with." Field Director "Doom" Woods said nervously.
"Copy that Director. We know what we're getting into." Shen said.
"Just another day on the job." "Lucky", one of the Foxtrot Squad members said sarcastically.
"Lock it up. We're here." "Vevut", the Foxtrot Captain said.
"Two minutes." The pilot said to Shen.
"Copy."
Vill looked out of the helicopter doors besides him, seeing the vast amount of vegetation and hearing the orchestra of sounds below them. The helicopter hummed quietly and everyone was silent. The cockpit of the helicopter was quickly filled with flashing red lights and distressing wails from the console.
"Anti-air round! 80 meters!" The pilot yells to the cabin.
"Everyone strap in it's going to get rough!" The other pilot yelled.
All of the squad members sit down into their seats and click their seatbelts into place. There was a squad member that couldn't get their harness done.
"Scalpel, get your harness on." Lucky said, slightly annoyed.
"I-I can't the harness doesn't latch!" He said with an increasingly panicked tone.
"Jesus Christ."
Lucky unbuckled his harness and traded seats with Scalpel. Scalpel buckled into his seat and let out a loud sigh of relief.
Vill could hear the two pilots bantering in the front of the cockpit and could hear how nervous they were. Vill looked out the window and saw the missile approaching quickly.
"Oni. Track where the round came from. I want to know where they are."
"Can't sir. Foliage is too thick we didn't see the round launch."
"Damnit."
"Raven, spin the bird around on my mark."
"Got it cap." The two pilots calmed their breathe and talked to each other.
"Mark! Flip it!"
The helicopter spun around and the rocket whizzed past the cabin and crashed into the side of the tail rotor, sending the helicopter into a spinning in a spiral down into the jungle below. Lucky was being thrown around in the cabin and Jester grabbed his arm, holding him in the burning helicopter.
"We're going to land in the top of the tree! Brace for impact!" Pilot Raven said in a panicked state.
Charlie's vision gets increasingly blurry, as he sees everyone around him panicking and bracing. Oni shakes Vill and his vision returns.
"What the bloody hell are you doing? Get strapped in!" He calmly commands Vill.
The two look out of the open cargo doors and they crash into the canopy of the tree. After several minutes, Vill's vision returns and there is ringing in his ears. He is laying on the side of the cargo door, and Oni is as well. There was a crackle on Oni's radio.
"Oni come in! Still available — package? Are — compromised?" The voice sounded crackled and mostly unintelligible. Oni suddenly looked up with a groan.
"Ah, g'day newbie. Decided to join me? I could use the company I suppose. C'mon we've been left behind, let's catch up."
He leans into his radio.
"Shen. Are you there? Do you copy?"
"We copy Oni. We've moved West towards the facility. Meet us there."
"Copy that Cap. C'mon Vill let's go."
The two lean out of the crashed helicopter and see two bodies below, belonging to the pilot and Lucky.
"Some luck." Oni says to himself.
