SCP-XXXX "Amalgam Moths"
rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX colonies are to be marked on the wings with bright pink dye and contained in individual 4'x4' terrariums connected to automatic feeders supplied with dried fruit pellets and separate ventilation systems cut off from the rest of the facility. In the event of a containment breach all ventilation systems must be closed off to prevent further travel of SCP-XXXX-1, Instances are to be located and returned to the appropriate terrariums. Any unmarked moths discovered on site and not in containment are to be immediately disposed of via insecticides

Description: SCP-XXXX consists of multiple colonies of Heterocera1
exhibiting multiple mutations, usually consisting of an omnivorous diet, advanced intelligence, and most notably amalgamation with other moths of the same colony. These individual moths are designated as SCP-XXXX-1, The entire colony will be designated as SCP-XXXX-2. SCP-XXXX-1 larvae exhibit similar mutations but cannot amalgamate until maturity. SCP-XXXX-1 exhibits mutations regarding consumption of food, SCP-XXXX-1 feeds through extrusion of a highly corrosive acid and drinking the melted slurry through the proboscis. SCP-XXXX-1 has exhibited pack-hunting behavior, stalking prey in small swarms and amalgamating into larger moths to kill and consume prey and splitting into it's components afterwards. Prey has often included birds, small reptiles, and even humans in rare cases.
SCP-XXXX-1 can understand basic commands similarly to that of a dog, commands such as "come" and "stay" have been taught by Foundation researchers to aid experiments. Amalgamation is often used as a hunting tactic to overwhelm prey but also to aid in situations where maintaining average size will not work.
Blunt force trauma is an effective way to split amalgamations but kills most SCP-XXXX-1 instances involved in the amalgamation.
