Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained within a Standard Secure Humanoid Containment Cell in Research Sector-██ at Site-██. SCP-XXXX is incapable of moving through solid matter. However, its exact method of transportation is not known. Despite it possessing appendages and digits, it is yet to display working knowledge of lockpicking or the ability to break through bullet-proof glass. Although it is unable to materialise through solid matter, it should be noted that if SCP-XXXX's containment cell is left open or unlocked, it will, without fail, attempt to escape. For this reason, any personnel entering SCP-XXXX's containment cell must maintain eye-contact with SCP-XXXX until the cell door is locked behind them. As the use of camera equipment within SCP-XXXX's presence is not possible, this procedure must be followed at all times, without exceptions.
Although SCP-XXXX poses very little/no apparent physical threat to any living thing, containment within SCP-XXXX itself can cause serious operational hindrances. Therefore, while risk of injury or death while experimenting on SCP-XXXX is extremely low, containment within SCP-XXXX would severely impede the operational efficiency of any personnel unfortunate to be trapped within SCP-XXXX. For this reason, any experimentation or janitorial work performed in SCP-XXXX's presence must always be done in groups of no less than three, in accordance with SCP standard procedures.
Description: SCP-XXXX resembles a suit of medieval steel battle armour, possibly dating from the late 13th/early 14th century. The exact atomic composition of SCP-XXXX is not known as it is impervious to physical harm. To date, it has resisted the following conditions:
- Temperatures exceeding 10,000 degrees Kelvin
- Atmospheric pressures exceeding 200G
- Nuclear detonation of 20 kilotons
- Nuclear detonation of 3 megatons
- Industrial grade LASER burns
- Sheer forces exceeding 500,000 Newtons
The suit appears to have made for a human male approximately 1.6 metres in height and of athletic, if somewhat diminished, proportions. The suit stands without external or internal support by some unknown force. Although it most often rests on the floor of wherever it finds itself, it has been seen levitating anywhere from a few millimetres to several metres in the air. While doing so, it is unaffected by native wind speeds.
SCP-XXXX is animate and moves by some unknown means at speeds that are not measurable. While not observed by any living thing, SCP-XXXX apparently 'teleports' to any nearby location. The limit of its range of movement is not yet known but it has been known to 'teleport' to locations as far as 25km from its original location. The exact reason for doing this is not known but several researchers have hypothesised that it fears, or even hates, confinement (if it is even capable of such emotional expression). Whether or not SCP-XXXX is sentient or even alive is not known but its desire to relocate or escape confinement has been thought to resemble some semblance of conscious thought.
SCP-XXXX has been known to 'contain' living humans within itself when not observed. Contained humans are rendered unconscious and placed in a state of suspended animation, resisting all external conditions such as heat, pressure and atmospheric decompression etc. Retrieval of contained humans is extremely problematic but not impossible. SCP-XXXX appears to perform this action mostly as a defensive reflex, not unlike the taking of a hostage to negotiate release from confinement. All recorded cases of 'containment' within SCP-XXXX have occurred within research facilities and have been performed on either janitors or research personnel. If SCP-XXXX is allowed to escape its containment cell, it will immediately 'teleport' to an accessible location, only releasing its 'hostage' once it is free of any confinement. After this, it can be safely retrieved. Because of this, SCP-XXXX does not appear to have any sense of long-term memory, being easily fooled by this simple 'cat-and-mouse' routine to re-contain it.
SCP-XXXX is not dangerous to touch and does not pose any physical threat so long as it is kept under constant observation. For this reason, it is always safe to physically handle in any retrieval procedure.
For unknown reasons, any video recording equipment in the presence of SCP-XXXX will, without exception, fail to work. Therefore, observation of SCP-XXXX is required to be by human sight.
Addendum XXXX.1: Discovery
The existence of SCP-XXXX has been known for hundreds of years. The exact date of discovery is impossible to place as descriptions of SCP-XXXX date back to the 14th century in medieval Europe. References to a 'haunted' suit of armour said to contain "the soulle yf a mightye warior slaine in glorious battle" or "a spyryt of a lost soule, longe departed" appear in several texts dating from this period. While physical descriptions differ by account, its method of transportation, that of instantaneous materialisation, is consistent as is its habit of taking 'hostages' in exchange for release, being held in personal collections by various aristocrats.
Accounts of SCP-XXXX between the late 15th century and early 20th century have yet to be discovered. The earliest reference of SCP-XXXX in the 20th century is during the First World War in which a Russian soldier witnessed a suit of medieval armour appearing in various locations throughout his trench in January of 1916. He recorded in his diary a total of 12 separate appearances of SCP-XXXX. Unfortunately, the unnamed soldier remains anonymous as only his unnamed diary remains. Curiously, no other soldiers, Russian or otherwise, mention the appearance of SCP-XXXX. The reason for this has yet to be understood.
Throughout the Second World War, Korean War, Vietnam War and, more recently, the Gulf War, SCP-XXXX has been sighted in or around areas of active conflict. It was this most recent appearance during the Gulf War that brought SCP-XXXX to the Foundation's attention. It was finally secured on August ████ of ████.
Due to these appearance and historical references to it containing the spirit of warrior or knight, it apparently seeks out the environment of conflict above all else.
Its various historical references places SCP-XXXX as one of the earliest SCPs to be placed in official historical records.
