Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: No Special Containment Procedures Necessary.
Description: SCP-XXXX is the occurrence of fictional stories being experienced while in a state of sleep, known to the public as "dreams." These fictional stories are often illogical, lacking continuity, and disorienting. Personnel experiencing an instance of SCP-XXXX are rarely able to acknowledge inconsistencies or the fictional element of what they are undergoing. The stories experienced when encountering an instance of SCP-XXXX seem to be often influenced by real life events, especially ones that have happened recently to the subject encountering the "dream."
After a subject awakes from an instance of SCP-XXXX, it tends to slowly forget about the events of the encounter, implying SCP-XXXX has an antimemetic effect. Some personnel appear to remember more of these "dreams" than others. Some personnel report to have never had a "dream." It is unknown whether said personnel do not experience instances of SCP-XXXX at all, or if they are just more strongly affected by its antimemetic properties.
Some personnel are reportedly able to acknowledge when they are experiencing an instance of SCP-XXXX. Said personnel are also reportedly capable of bending these "dreams" to their own will, and are able to do things that wouldn't normally be possible. Examples of said abilities provided by said personnel are listed below:
- Teleportation to locations of the subjects choice
- Interaction with real people of the subjects choice (Note: The people mimicked during instances of SCP-XXXX will act as how their sub-conscience expects them to act)
- █████ ████████ ███ █████ █████████ █ █████ ███
- Manipulation of the environment around subject
- Interaction with SCP-████ (known to the public as the subjects "sub-conscience")
- Flight (as depicted in most mainstream movies)
Personnel also report that it can be difficult to maintain their sub-conscience state once they realize they are experiencing an instance of SCP-XXXX, and that it takes practice to successfully utilize the listed powers.
Some personnel also report that few instances of SCP-XXXX can be particularly frightening, often consisting of the subject encountering the things they fear most. This is reportedly a very negative and undesirable experience, and is often referred to as a "nightmare." Testing is currently being done to determine what causes these irregular instances of SCP-XXXX.
Addendum: SCP-XXXX was discovered in 2001 while performing tests on SCP-████. Personnel conducting the test noticed a slight drop in humes while subject D-92741 was asleep. When awoken, it reported having a "dream" about being trapped in SCP-3008 (Note: earlier that day, D-92741 was used for testing on SCP-3008), but reported no encounters with SCP-████. The public is taught that instances of SCP-XXXX are the brains way of comprehending information.
More tests are currently being performed to determine if SCP-XXXX is capable of serious physical or mental harm. A proposal has been made to begin distributing miniature SRA's in daily objects typically used for sleeping, like pillows, blankets, and mattresses in order to minimize instances.
