Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-4915 is stored in Low-Security Cognitohazard Vault B, Site-64 and monitored by Mobile Task Force Ψ-05 ("Pinky Swearers"). SCP-4915 may be checked out for testing with approval of Dr. Emerson the Site Director or a member of the O5 council.

While SCP-4915 is nonhazardous in its active state, normal precautions should be taken to prevent inadvertent activation. SCP-4915 should never be handled without gloves. All personnel are to avoid inadvertent eye contact with SCP-4915 Users during test activations.

Provenance:
SCP-4915 passed into Foundation custody at the ████████ auction house in Taos, NM. The item was scheduled to be offered for sale to private collectors on ██/██/20██, when the auction house was quarantined in a HAZMAT alert on suspicion of a psychotropic-substance release, after reports of strange behavior among staff. A routine Foundation inquiry into the event isolated the effect to SCP-4915 on ██/██/20██ and confiscated the item. Class-B amnestics were administered to select witnesses. An follow-up inquiry was able to backtrace the item to illegal excavations in the ruins of the Classic-period Maya city-state of Uxmal.

Description:
SCP-4915 is a silver¹ and palladium² Maya ceremonial headdress inlaid with forty-seven semi-precious stones, including turquoise, celadon, and jade. SCP-4915's inner headband contains a short inscription in the Highland Chʼoltiʼ script:

Dr. Grosvenor of the Foundation Mesoamerican Study Group has suggested the translation "ajaw k'amik haah," "the prince shall know the truth" followed by the Long Count date 9.18.16.15.1 (or 10 May 807 C.E., thought to be the date of accession of Chac Kak'nal Xiu to the throne of Uxmal.)

SCP-4915 closely resembles ceremonial headdresses worn by the ruling classes of Maya city-states during the Late Classic period. However, while Dr. Grosvenor has assigned the object to 700-750 AD on stylistic grounds, the precision and uniformity of SCP-4915's manufacturing is inconsistent with the level of craftsmanship found in authentic Maya artifacts of the period. (The auction catalog had similarly described SCP-4915 as "an exquisite early-twentieth-century reproduction".) Microscopic traces of organic residue found in the artifact's crevices have been dated to approximately 1200 y.a., with a confidence interval of 60 years.

SCP-4915 generates an anomalous memetic effect (henceforth SCP-4915-1)³ when "activated" by contact with certain human bodily fluids⁴⁵ (of which blood is the most conveniently obtainable) and being brought into bare-skin physical contact with a human, henceforth SCP-4915's "User." While any form of contact will sustain activation, the headdress is for convenience usually worn as intended on a User's head. SCP-4915's inner diameter approximately corresponds to a male hat size of 54½.

SCP-4915-1 affects humans (henceforth "Subjects") with whom a User is able to make eye contact. The biological signature of SCP-4915-1 in a Subject is a mild but escalating sense of anxiety which lasts for approximately five to ten seconds before rapidly subsiding and being replaced by a sense of calm and general-well-being, accompanied by a compulsion to honestly respond to any question asked by a User on the narrow topic of morally wrong actions a Subject may have taken.

Subjects will answer specifically- or generally-phrased inquiries on the subject of their moral culpability fully and to the best of their knowledge, and will often volunteer relevant unasked-for information with no apparent resentment or reservations. However, SCP-4915-1 cannot be used to force Subjects to divulge other categories of information. When asked questions that cannot in some way be related to an ethical lapse, a Subject will remain free to respond to it or not, truthfully or not, according to their own inclinations. Subjects who are hostile or uncooperative will remain so on all categories of information other than that covered by the effect.

After an activation session, Subjects retain full memories of their experience under SCP-4915's influence, but exhibit a surprising lack of hostility towards Users for compelling them to divulge what would normally be intensely personal and often compromising information; indeed, nearly 96% of both D-class and Foundation-affiliated Subjects have described the experience positively, often speaking of it in therapeutic or spiritual terms. Users have reported no atypical mental or physiological experiences during or after testring.

Testing Log

Only one User at a time can activate SCP-4915; a second application of blood and physical contact while the item is already active will have no effect. The User must remain in physical contact with SCP-4915 for as long as he or she wishes it to continue to exert its memetic effect. The only way to end an activation is for a User to break physical contact with SCP-4915, at which point the compulsive effect on the Subject fades over the course of five to ten seconds. The memetic effect is strictly one-way, and does not involve telepathic crossbleed; Users gain no anomalous insight into a Subject's thoughts or state of mind, and Users have reported no urges, compulsions or unusual thoughts other than those which could be ordinarily expected from the nature of their work at the Foundation.⁶ There is no known maximum number of Subjects which can be affected by SCP-4915-1 at one time; the effect has been tested with as many as seventy-six simultaneous Subjects, and does not appear to diminish in strength as the number of Subjects increases, with further testing to be conducted if additional D-class personnel are made available. SCP-4915-1 is remotely-transmittable: Users and Subjects need not be physically coterminous.⁷

Addendum I: Project "SIMON SAYS"

As repeated tests on D-class Subjects have not evinced any undesirable side effects, a proposal by Researcher ████████ for a pilot information-extraction program was approved on 09/17/20██.

Summary

The results of Project Simon Says were characterized as "uneven." The primary obstacle to productive use of SCP-4915 as an interrogation tool is the highly specific nature of SCP-4915-1, which only compels Subjects to divulge information which they consider to be an ethical failing; consequently, it has proven impossible to extract usable intel related to actions Subject have considered to not have been wrong, or to have been morally neutral. SCP-4915 has proven of especially limited use on highly ideologically committed, severely sociopathic, and pathologically-narcissistic personality types.

Additionally, the positive psychological aftereffects experienced by Subjects have had the unintended and undesirable side effect of partially neutralizing some of the Foundation's conventional interrogation methods.

The Project Simon Says final report recommends an end to testing for counterintelligence applications. However, as SCP-4915-1 generates "uniformly beneficial aftereffects," described by Researcher ████████ as "catharsis, absolution, and a general sense of well-being," the O5 Council has approved therapeutic use of SCP-4915 by authorized Foundation medical personnel for persistent PTSD and acute exposure to severe memetic hazards resistant to conventional psychiatric and amnestic treatments.

Addendum II: SCPs 4915-B, -C, -D, -E

Follow-up investigations in the Uxmal ruins have failed to supply additional context for the original discovery. However, a Foundation archaeological survey did result in the identification and/or acquisition of several related artifacts, henceforth designated SCP-4915-B through-E.

SCP-4915-B

SCP-4915-B is an identical silver/platinum headdress inlaid with tourmaline, hematite and red agate, discovered in the necropolis of Chichen Itza in 1967. SCP-4915-B is in a substantially worse state of preservation than SCP-4915, as the vault of the tomb in which it had been deposited had collapsed; the structural elements of the headdress have been crushed and disarticulated, and most of the inlaid stones have shattered. The inscription is different, reading ajaw k'amik taasik, "the prince shall be obeyed," and includes a Long Count date corresponding to 10 May 815. SCP-4915-B cannot be activated, and exhibits no anomalous effect.

SCP-4915-C

SCP-4915-C is an identical silver/platinum headdress that appears to have been the subject of active vandalism in antiquity. The inlaid stones are missing, and the headdress itself has been mangled and abraded, as though subject to blunt-implement trauma consistent with having been being beaten with stones. The left earpiece is missing. There is no anomalous effect. The artifact was recovered from a midden within a burn layer at Bàakʼ (also known as Palenque), corresponding to the city-state's destruction during the collapse of the Classic Maya civilization. SCP-4915-C's inscription is [REDACTED], translating as [REDACTED]; the Long Count date is 9.18.13.6.3, corresponding to 29 November 803.

SCP-4915-D

SCP-4915-D is a depiction of what appears to be an identical headdress on a granite stela. The artifact - known as the "Stela of the Atrocities" - was discovered in Tikal in 1897; it depicts Yax Nuun Ayiin II, the twentieth Lord of Tikal, standing on a dais while wearing a 4915-type headdress. Beneath him are twenty male figures who appear to be in the act of castrating themselves with obsidian knives. The stela includes the inscription he’la’ nohoch ajaw kal haahil siibil k’uchul k’exik ("Behold, the divine ruler's voice is reality made manifest") and a Long Count date of 9.18.4.6.19, corresponding to 31 January 795.

SCP-4915-E

SCP-4915-E are the remains of an identical silver/platinum headdress that has suffered considerable mechanical and thermal damage. The artifact appears to have been battered and partially melted, perhaps in a funerary pyre. The inlaid stones are missing, although fragments of moss agate are embedded in the metal. The inscriptions have been obliterated. There is no anomalous effect.

The artifact was recovered from a mass grave within the middle burn layer at Copán, dating to the city-state's destruction during the collapse of the Classic Maya civilization. It had been deposited amid a disorderly burial of approximately sixty partially-burned human bodies; based on attendant weapons, jewelry, and artifacts, the dead are though to include the final Lord of Copán, Yax Pasaj Chan Yopaat, as well as his personal bodyguard and immediate family. The mass grave was spanned by a granite covering stone, an unfinished royal-proclamation stela with the original carvings vandalized and replaced with crudely-cut Chʼoltiʼ characters for "slavery," "hell," "butcher," and [REDACTED].

Addendum III: STRATEGIC ASSESSMENT

**KX-R CLASSIFIED - LEVEL 4 CLEARANCE REQUIRED**

Executive Summary, Final Report Of 4915-Series Investigative Committee [UNREDACTED COPY]

We keep underestimating them. We never thought the bastards would attempt a trans-Pacific breakout. - Researcher ████████

The identification of additional instances of SCP-4915, their period-anomalous manufacturing standard, their wide dispersal thorough the Maya political sphere, and their ultimate origin have long presented a mystery to Foundation analysts. This mystery is now resolved, thanks to Dr. Siilvança of the Foundation Interdisciplinary K-Class Countermeasures Project, and her identification of highly pure palladium-silver alloy artifacts as a signature of the "soul-burner" school of Eastern Daevite thaumaturgy.

We postulate that the manufacture and distribution of the 4915-series SCPs - probably as tributary gifts on the occasion of the accessions of the rulers of various Maya city-states - was an initial component of a scheme by the Daevite Empire to disrupt and undermine the Maya civilization in advance of a planned Daevite invasion of Central America, intended as a contingency against the Empire's increasingly untenable military position in its Central-Asian home territories. Dr. Siilvança suggests that this plan would have been unpredictably and irretrievably disrupted when the Daevite Grand Matriarchate of the Northern Qakt was routed at the Battle of the Halys by a coalition of the Tang Dynasty, the Oghuz Khanate, and the Hephtalites on February 21st, 821, a defeat that precipitated a massive slave uprising and the nearly complete liquidation of the regional daeva overclass.

We further postulate that the 4915 series SCPs constitute a previously-unknown class of thaumaturgical societal-disruption weapons, and that the relatively benign memetic effect generated by SCP-4915 represents a miscalculation or manufacturing error on the part of Daevite thaumaturges which should not blind us to the probable destructive potential of its "siblings."

Recommendations of the Committee:

1. Terminate non-D-class testing of SCP-4915. Given the malign effects exerted by all known Daevite artifacts - especially when applied to baseline humans - further use of SCP-4915-1 by Foundation personnel is both deeply unethical and potentially dangerous.
2. Increase budget of Foundation archaeological surveys in southeastern Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize. Obtaining a fully-functional 4915-series SCP for analysis and the formulation of countermeasures against Daevite thaumatechnology should be a top priority.
3. The Foundation must redouble its efforts to neutralize the escalating Daevite ontological threat. The reality-reconfiguration front has advanced by nearly a thousand objective years since the Foundation's nominal containment of SCP-140. We remind the Council that - at the current rate of ontological recension - the front will reach the objective present no later than the summer of 20██, resulting in a catastrophic CK-class chronoconcatenation. It is impossible to anticipate what effect the harmonization of the Daevite-ascendancy deuterotimeline with our own will have on the state of consensus reality and on the Foundation's ability to carry out its core functions.

Addendum IV

On ██/06/20██, Agent ██████ (formerly attached to Project Simon Says as principal interrogator) reported that he had recently begun experiencing frequent, recurrent nightmares involving ritual sadistic violence, cannibalism, mounted steppe warfare, and [DATA EXPUNGED]. After approximately ninety-three hours of medical observation and increasingly compromised REM-sleep patterns, Agent ██████ reported that he had also began experiencing thematically-similar waking hallucinations. As of ██/27/20██, Agent ██████ has been placed in an artificially-induced coma. All other former test-Users of SCP-4915 are hereby required to immediately report the nearest Foundation medical facility for psychological evaluation and possible targeted amnestic treatment.

4. Substances tested have included sweat, tears, and urine, which do not result in activation, and blood, cerebrospinal fluid, amniotic fluid, breast milk and ejaculate, which do. While there appears to be no functional difference between the latter substances in terms of facilitating activation, blood has been consistently used beyond the initial testing phase due to its comparative convenience of extraction.

5. The minimum volume of fluid required for activation is .03 ml.; the strength of the anomalous effect does not vary with quantity.

6. A number of Users have reported headaches after wearing SCP-4915; however this has generally been interpreted as a consequence of the headband's uncomfortable tightness. Users who have held the item instead of wearing it have not reported headaches, though Researcher ██████ was slightly lacerated by one of its edges when he unexpectedly sneezed while concealing it under his jumpsuit.

7. Conducting the interview via a one- or two-way video link will also facilitate the effect, so long as the Subject has a line of sight permitting eye contact with the User. The broadcast must be live; recordings (as well as photos, drawings, etc.) of a User looking into a camera while in contact with the activated SCP-4915 have proven to have no effect. However, delays introduced into the broadcast by the limits of signal propagation do not seem to matter, as verified by an experiment conducted via a tightbeam-transmission looped repeatedly between a User at Site-64, a Subject at Area-32, and a Foundation repeater station at the L5 point, for a cumulative round-trip lightspeed delay of 37.4809 seconds. This is one of ██ memetic SCPs presently contained by the Foundation to exhibit this lack of causal constraint.

SCP-6XYZ is contained in situ beneath Site-551, a large colonial-style home located in the rural outskirts of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. The facility is garrisoned by Mobile Task Force φ-05 ("Steady Gazers").
